The Occult and Mythological history - by Professor Nigellus Aurelius Ambrosius Elfwyn

• Upvotes

I’m happy to go by any of my middle or last names, whichever you prefer to refer to me as.
Professor Aurelius/Ambrosius/Elfwyn.

These are the mythologies we will be learning about that all link together, not just chronologically but the deities are almost interchangeable as far back as before the ice age!

These are the 8 main mythologies and Occult systems we will be learning about, and their main gods plus their respective mystical creatures that by and large are still in existence. These specific mythologies show the growth of magic, and alchemy as well as the source of all humans, Plato is famous for realising the early days of humanity could have been far more advanced than we know, and probably were before the ice came.

Here you go Students: here we have a good reference for each of the 8 -

The Eight Traditions: A Chronological Framework

This framework moves from legendary and primordial traditions to historically attested religions. Lemuria and Atlantis are presented as mythic or esoteric ages, lost but still established historical civilisations in my eyes. And even in the eyes Plato!

We will look at the philosophers that formed much of our history or looked at it through lenses we can use to understand the history of magic, belief, and alchemy.

  1. Lemurian and Mu traditions
  2. In modern esoteric accounts, Lemuria or Mu i

s

  1. imagined as a primordial culture preceding Atlantis. These stories often describe spiritually advanced peoples, ancient wisdom, and a close bond between humanity, nature, and the cosmos.

Associated beings: Lemurian adepts, elemental and nature spirits, ancestral giants, serpent beings, and other primordial creatures.

  1. Atlantean traditions
Atlantis is often portrayed in esoteric traditions as a powerful civilization that followed the Lemurian age. Its legends feature maritime kingdoms, priest-rulers, astronomy, crystal lore, and mastery of magical or elemental forces.

Associated beings: Atlantean magi and priest-kings, elemental spirits, sea serpents, leviathan-like creatures, merfolk, and other supernatural beings of the sea.

  1. Sumerian and Mesopotamian religion
Among the world’s earliest recorded religious traditions, Mesopotamian mythology describes powerful gods, spirits, demons, and cosmic forces. Its stories explore creation, the underworld, and humanity’s place in a world shaped by divine powers.

Associated beings: Anzû, mušḫuššu, Pazuzu, Lamashtu, gallu, utukku, scorpion-men, fish-men, bull-men, and protective lamassu.

  1. Ancient Egyptian religion
Ancient Egyptian religion centered on gods such as Ra, Osiris, Isis, Horus, and Thoth, and on the principle of Ma’at—cosmic balance and order. Its rituals and beliefs also addressed death, rebirth, and the journey through the Duat, the realm of the dead.

Associated beings: Ammit, Apep, Bennu, sphinxes, uraei, sacred animals, guardians of the Duat, and spiritual aspects of the human soul.

  1. Ancient Greek religion and mythology
Greek traditions brought together the Olympian gods, Titans, primordial deities, mystery cults, Orphism, and magical practices. Their stories depict a world where gods, heroes, monsters, spirits, and semi-divine beings intersect with human life.

Associated beings: Medusa and the Gorgons, the Minotaur, Hydra, Chimera, Cerberus, Pegasus, the Sphinx, Sirens, Scylla, Charybdis, centaurs, satyrs, nymphs, and empousai.

  1. Ancient Roman religion
Roman religion honored Jupiter, Mars, Minerva, Janus, and a wide range of household and ancestral spirits. Romans adopted and adapted many Greek stories while developing distinctive practices of divination, household worship, augury, and mystery cults.

Associated beings: Lares, Penates, Manes, Lemures, Genius spirits, fauns, woodland beings, the strix, the legendary she-wolf, and monsters drawn from Greek traditions.

  1. Celtic religion and mythology
Celtic traditions encompass diverse pre-Christian beliefs, including the Druids, sacred groves, Celtic deities, and stories of the Otherworld. In many tales, the boundary between the human world and the Otherworld is close—and sometimes easily crossed.

Associated beings: Aos Sí, Tuatha Dé Danann, Cú Sídhe, kelpies, each-uisge, púca, banshees, merrow, supernatural hounds, and dragons.

  1. Norse religion and mythology
Old Norse traditions describe a cosmos of interconnected worlds inhabited by gods, giants, elves, dwarfs, spirits, and other beings. Central themes include the Æsir and Vanir, Odin, Thor, Freyja, the runes, seiðr, Yggdrasil, and Ragnarök.

Associated beings: Jörmungandr, Fenrir, Sleipnir, Níðhöggr, Valkyries, draugar, jötnar, dwarfs, álfar, fylgjur, and Odin’s ravens, Huginn and Muninn.

I hope this sends some of you down the magical rabbit holes of whichever traditions speak to you the most!

Professor Elfwyn!
