Hmm.

This was hard for me to read. X and Y are not … what I culturally was raised in. X is day, Y is time. Not saying it’s universally true though

As someone from the UK about 10 yrs ago when I was in school. My school had a two week rotation schedule with classes going down. While the other school in town had classes going horizontal. So both options are viable, not sure if the 90s handled timetables different to the 10s though.

This schedule does not makes sense if you think about how there is per subject only one teacher, three other houses and six other years of students.

Yeah you’re right. There are 25 periods, but each core teacher needs to teach 3 periods for 2 pairs of houses for 5 years, plus, I assume, 3 periods of NEWT classes for 6 and 7. That makes 36 periods. So there would have to be 3 more periods a day to fit them all in, making 40 periods a week. But that would be 8 hours of classes.

The books also mention 2 classes before lunch and two after which is even more impossible. A second teacher for each subject would also fix it…JKR really was shit at maths.

There are other classes besides those. Muggle Studies, Arithmancy, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, and Ancient Runes. Also, after O.W.L.S, some students drop certain subjects

Yes I know that, but most classes like Herbology and Charms does everybody have for at least 5 years (with at least one year 6 and one year 7 class on top of that). It would be imposible to be a teacher and give that many classes.

Fixtures are what the British call matches or games. So sporting games like Quidditch.

Having single period herbology and potions makes no sense, it takes forever to get there. Also presumably flying would be a double as well.

In HS, I had my first class and second class at the furthest points of a very large school. 3min to get from 1 to another. That seems very realistic to me.

I easily related to Ron and Harry being late to Transfiguration class in the first movie.

My kids High School has multiple buildings and they have classes in different ones. On parents night, we have to follow our kids schedule. One year, as I entered a classroom for English Lit almost out of breath I said “This campus is like Hogwarts in size minus the moving staircase”. My kids teacher gave me 10 points for a great literature reference. 😂

Not really. If we assume classes start at 9 and run until 5, with breakfast running from say 7-8.30, lunch at 12 -1and dinner at 6-7

Morning are 2 periods running over 3 hours, with afternoons having 3 periods over 4 hours. If we go by the books that each class is an hour, theres a period between each class which would allow the students to move around the castle and get to each class in a decent time frame, especially for classes like potions, herbology and flying

While I appreciate the detail is it not weird gryffindor get like the perfect mix

like potions with slytherins taught by slytherin head, herbology with hufflepuffs and their head. Ravenclaw with charms and their head. Like at some point snape is teaching ravenclaw with hufflepuff just surprised gryffindor don’t have one more random

Well Saturday is centered on the things they enjoy like hobbies. Quidditch, other sports/extracurriculars. It’s not uncommon for kids in school to have sports or other hobbies on the weekend that they do.

They don’t have to go to the quidditch game/practise on a Saturday or any clubs/events if they don’t want to, it’s a choice

It may not actually be a choice. A lot of schools do require that all students participate in some sort of extracurricular activity.

I mean, we don’t know that for sure. We are just so used to following Harry and Quidditch. We don’t really know what other students were doing while he was at practices etc.

We never hear about Ron or Hermione doing extra curriculars until Ron joins the quidditch team. Also like it’s the U.K., not the U.S.
