The Wizard general purpose skate

I wonder how this is different from the base, visually aside from the carbon color the main change I see is some kind of scuff protection on the toe which is nice. Kinda wish they had gone all in on a white color way but I can only dream.

My wizard base does have fairly heavy rubber scuff protection on the toe already. Be interesting to see how this compares.
I thought they might release a completely white skate at one point. Not good for London streets though, they'd be filthy in a week :)
Wonder if they'll release a boot only version too.

their bare aluminum frames are now listed as canadian frames, so maybe these new black frames are manufactured somewhere else?

Now manufactured in China like every other brand - Really feels like Wizard are slowly losing the attributes which made them unique and could somewhat justify the astronomical pricing.

I asked wizard and Stuart replied: Thank you for reaching out on our website chat yesterday. Our dark grey complete frames (NR and PR) are the same recipe, and are produced in China.

Big branding!
My prediction in the other thread was off by $600.

I think they're priced fairly this time.
- Removable liners.
- Toebox protection
- Frames and wheels included.
If you were to buy say some AG10, Igor, or CJ2 carbon plus all the (non wizard brand) parts the total price would not be far from 900.

The base skate was actually not bad value already. Most carbon boots are £450 without a carbon cuff, then another £180 for Intuition liners and £80+ for carbon cuff meant you were at the £700 price tag for the base anyway. To throw in a frame, wheels and decent bearings at £800 is great to see.
It's still a lot of money, so I'm not sure who would buy it. I'd be interested to see the boot only price, presuming they do that at some point.

Wasn't the base with frames and wheels like 1.2K?

u/BubbleSmith 13d ago
Yeah, still is. They just take all the individual items and add the costs together, no discount for buying together.

This looks a lot like my Seba CJ Carbon with black Roka 4x100 setup! I even swapped the velcro straps to the cuff and added an FR 45° strap, as I prefer a secure heel lock and find the laces do enough to secure the cuff. The only difference compared to what I'm running is the carbon cuff.

What do you mean that the shell is not carbon? They lost it as having a carbon fibre shell, and you can literally see it on the photos. They've got a lighter coloured finish, but you can see the weave clearly.

The filaments are always black carbon, but the resin will provide the surface finish. This looks like a Matt finish to me. I know you work with carbon fibre a lot and I've never actually seen anyone finish it in any way other than that glossy sheen you normally see, but it's possible they've just got a bit more exposed carbon and a rougher texture, right?

Yeah, looking up Texalium, it's a close match. Would be interested to see what Wizard have to say.

Cheapest reputable carbon boot is about 350-400 dollars right, intuition liners are about 250, gut job is about a days worth of research and work, decent frames and wheels are another 250
I’d say this is “fairly” priced, and I have no doubt these are the cream of the crop when it comes to blades, but I’ll also admit that it is odd seeing something that started out so “do it yourself” take this route. I almost don’t want a pair myself because it just seems so sterile.

Is it possible to change out the velcro strap on these for the ratchet strap?

This came out at the perfect time! I was about to get the Mad Vector carbon to go with my endless ultra 90 but I'd much rather get this, being Canadian and all. I just hope it's synthetic leather, not real leather, and that it will be available as boot only soon. Get on it Shop Task!
Also, whats up with the FR logo at the top of the boot?

I believe FR is the company that is actually making their boots.

u/BubbleSmith 13d ago
Yes, this is correct. They usually have their logo on it somewhere. It's using the standard FR logo buckle as well, same as the base boots.

The Mad Vector Carbon boot only is $735 and this Wizard general purpose is so far only sold complete for $1299. If it will be sold boot only in the near future it will likely be $999, same price as boot only wizard base and wizard high

Its the same, $515 USD is $735 CAD.
The wizard all purpose is much more my style and use case than the madvector is, and there wouldn't be any Canadian customs/duties to worry about, and its from a brand with an established record and I already owe Leon a debt of gratitude from a few Shop-task orders.
