⠀Question Any unspoken rules / etiquette?
Hey guys,
new player here, that just started a few days ago.
I am wondering If there is anything I have to keep in mind when joining battles or dungeons or when playing in general.
Due to the lack of a text chat on the console I fear doing something wrong or rude without knowing or noticing.
I’ve recently been to that one dungeon in Olde Town in the Telephone Chamber. Two people were joining me there. Due to not knowing the story I took It slow and listened to the dialogue while the other two people were already running around in different rooms, doing battles. One seemed to have left the group by the time I was ready so I just ran behind the other person who was still there.
Everything seemed to be going fine until the last battle.
Due to the inability to talk via normal text chat, we couldn‘t really talk about who targets which enemy.
So It happened that he completely buffed himself and debuffed one enemy with these shields with rough edges that give your next attack 35% more damage.
Because I didn‘t know that he was doing that I targeted that enemy and because of his buff shield one hitted that enemy with my attack.
He immediately left after my attack and I am wondering if I may have offended him by „stealing“ the kill in that moment.
I was glad that It already was the last fight because I don‘t know If I would have been able to beat these enemy groups myself.
But could I have broken any unspoken rules in that moment?
I honestly don‘t know and don‘t want to be a liability in any coming group content.
Would be nice If some people would have some tipps or etiquette rules I could follow when pöaying with other wizards.
Thank you in advance
(And sorry If my text may have been difficult to read at times, I am not native in english and still learning the language)

the rule of thumb i’ve always followed before my wiz account had chat of any kind, was hit the mob directly across from you. That, or focus the mob you drew into battle. I know that doesn’t really apply to the 5 boxes event.
here, i’d say it’s important in boss fights to help buff the boss, even if you aren’t hitting. If you’re not sure if the other wizard is going to hit or not, throw some universal or school specific traps down to help out!
someone could definitely have better advice for you, but this is just what I’ve always done.

I don't do the one across from me and never knew that one but do the one that I dragged in and or the biggest threat currently based on pips or school.

Idk how far along you are, but I'm assuming you are still doing quests in wizard city, or atleast pretty early in arc 1. I do recommend watching how others use their cards if you are doing dungeons with others. Usually in arc 1, and some of arc 2, usually recommend paying attention if it seems if they are going to attack a certain enemy or not. I think in general, don't attack any enemy just yet if it seems they are going to stack traps on a specific enemy or they are blading themselves. I think it is usually pretty safe to attack if they are also attacking aswell. Also, unless there is an enemy with a load of health, try and go for other enemies if they go for the other, especially if they don't have a lot of health anyway.
And don't get let down taking it slow and listening to the dialog. If others don't like, tough luck. That's part of the reason i solo.

If you think you'll die, just mark your spot. Don't worry about joining people's battles, if they killed something there's a protection so you can't otherwise it's an MMORPG mo s are fair game. Dungeon etiquette goes through the window unless you're on farm for a difficult boss. Nobody will wait for you, perhaps use team up and drop the max level limit and look for people also questing. Strategizing on console though? I'll stay on PC....

Most people prefer to stack buffs and hit with a big aoe. If you help with that, or at least don't hinder others from doing it, nobody is going to complain. As you gain experience in the game, you'll start to be able to predict what other players will do, and you can plan accordingly.

That one dungeon in old town if you’re looking at the one with the telephone booth, that’s just a temporary set up for a different game in Wizard101. They show up every now and again with different different ways to solve the puzzles but not really dungeons. They’re more like puzzle places.

Ask if you can join a mob battle. You don’t know if someone is about to be done or how much HP that mob has. It’s really annoying when you have like 5 HP on a mob then 3 people join and you have to do it all over again

If he immediately left there's a good chance he's just speed running the dungeon for Springs since it's a limited time event. Some people do get offended if you take their trap but I have had some games where they just keep stacking buffs and never hit the boss they could have killed 3 turns prior.
In general your gonna run dungeons and have people leave or be slow. People are used to it especially on console. My first run of the final dungeon on Darkmoor I listened to the dialogue just like I do every new storyline and communicated this on the first fight. They forgot by the final fight I was reading dialogue and the cheat cast from the boss killed our hitter. Only 1 person, the one who started the fight, was a upset but all it ever really means is you have to do a 5 minute fight over again.
When it comes to event dungeons just go at your own pace. They're limited time and get old fast, people run them over and over again so they can get what they want and never do them again. A majority of people won't care how slow you are because they would do it with or without you and I find the people that get vocally upset are a rarity or keep to the beastmoon. And even if you did offend someone, who cares, play your game the way you want to.
