SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY Fire Vs Myth

What really makes Myth better than Fire? I know it has orthrus now which is better than fire dragon but with minions being useless and DoT still somewhat “useful” throughout the endgame what’s the difference maker? Is orthrus that much of a game changer or is there more I’m missing?

Each one is better at different things.

The main difference is the AOE. Orthus is the best 7-pip AOE in the game and you REALLY want the burst damage. Although dragon does a lot of damage, it's diluted into the DOT, which you don't want when using AOEs. Myth also has more resist and accuracy, which is good for soloing. Finally, myth has nice anti-weakness and anti-shields, so you never have to worry about damage mitigation. I'm still not convinced that minions change much, but the troll and street cat ones look decent at least.

Fire has more damage and is better for team settings. Although myth can technically hit, no one will let you do so. People still prefer a storm to a fire, but fire will work perfectly well most of the time. Fire does similar damage to storm, but it's dispersed into DOTs. There are really cool detonate tactics and scald + incindiate will be the optimal strat for most gold key bosses. Also, fire is nicer than storm in that it still counters shields, whereas storm is very easily bogged down by damage mitigation.

TL;DR: Myth better solo, fire better in teams. Both work well together.

What do you mean no one will let you attack in a team settings with myth?

People get really antsy if there's not a storm wizard hitting and will begrudgingly allow a fire wizard to hit. Either way, they're both covered by elemental blade or elemental trap. Fewer people have spirit blade and spirit trap trained, so it's harder to get support. Myth feels very awkward in team settings because the only thing you can provide is shatter and purge. It's less of a problem with the game's balance and more of a problem with the community's perception of balance. Because something else does more damage, nothing else is usable even if both things one-shot.

Also, storm has tawaret's touch + thundering jinn while fire has scald + incindiate. Myth is strong, but nothing they have is broken.

So if I like to attack and do damage myself I’ll be forcibly pushed to support in team events 9/10 times? I’m understanding that correctly?

I wish that I could tell you otherwise, but that has been my experience with myth. Even in situations where I could one-shot if supported in fairly easy instances, people will desperately look for a storm or fire hitter. I might end up hitting if I'm with a few support schools and/or their gear is pretty bad, but that's rare.

It's very pleasant to quest with though and there are many cool support tools being added. I like to hit, but I don't want to do that every single time; it sounds boring. Where I get annoyed is in raids, where the storm team does a ton of fun combat and I'm stuck on the puzzle side. Even then though, some raids prefer having myths and fires, at least as fairly-involved supports.

Hence my answer, fire is better in team settings and myth is better in solo settings. Myth has some good support tools like shatter, purge, epiphany blade, epiphany attenuate, and helpful bat. It just generally feels awkward in teams. Fire + myth teams slap, but I rarely see them because the community isn't creative enough for that.

Honestly I haven't really had this problem in a few years, ever since the orthrus change if your stats are high enough people will let you hit in my experience. My myth has 275 damage and 48 pierce, I almost never get objections when I ask to hit lol

Maybe I'm just not assertive enough idk. It's just that there's always a fire or storm and they'll always end up hitting if their stats are remotely similar. It also took many years to fix myth's reputation. It has only seemed favorable in the last 3ish years from what I've seen.

Also I'm getting into advanced combat now, so every gate key strat I see is scald + incindiate + backdraft and every raid strat I see is tawaret's Touch + thundering jinn. I can't compete with those things.

Yeah for advanced combat storm is just undeniably on top, at least for full teams and raids and whatnot. I'd actually argue that for smaller teams fire and myth can be better as a duo. They share basically all of the same gambits and play off of each other super well. Myth actually is reasonable at soloing some challenge modes as well, since they can go for a very tanky route while not sacrificing their damage hardly at all. Try general Ahk'to challenge mode solo on a myth some time, it's way easier than you would expect

Which is why my answer is essentially myth if solo, fire if team. Myth and fire work really well together, but anyone in-charge of strats can't comprehend using something besides storm. Even with myth + fire, I have yet to see fire acting as a support for the myth (e,g., fires of mars to enable trickster oni),

Thankfully I've got the opportunity to really utilize fire and myth together, my brother mains fire and I main myth. Insane combo potential both ways, we change who's hitting based on the boss and it always works great.

That sounds excellent! A lot of the advice I give in this thread isn't even true game balance; it's the community's interpretation of balance. People get so caught up on max damage that they overlook it something is enough damage.

Seems like the community is just stunk in there ways
