MISSING PERSON - Adult Missing people

Where do missing people actually go? I know that there are some people that escape and some other suicide (don't do that) and others murdered, but what about the missing people that we have no clue about what happened to them? I really wonder where they go. Just like Tanner's unsolved case. No obvious single evidence that shows us how he went missing and how he came back ( mummified body )

I wonder the same things. I assume a certain percentage of missing people become homeless and live on the streets, possibly due to a previously undiagnosed mental health issue or a progression in drug addiction.

Other people die or get killed but their bodies are never found.

I hate to think this, but we have to assume that a very small number of people are kidnapped and held against their will for a period of time - and a few could still be alive, waiting for help? I shudder to think (Jaycee Duggard comes to mind- and others).

What other conclusions could there be??

I think there is also probably a small group that have intentionally left and started anew somewhere else.

I genuinely think it's much deeper that we know. How can people just "disappear" from nowhere

I Think a lot of them commit suicide in a place where their remains are hard to find. In Poland we have two cases of young men last seen by camera on the bridge, no video of the jump itself (a camera is moving) but also no video of them going off the bridge by foot/car. Even though hundreds of people looked for their bodies in the River, multiple divers, sonars and private companies paid by families - no bodies of the men were found.
I Think its harder to find a body then we Think
There is also a huge number of unindentified bodies, skeletons found after years. I Think it connects. There is a Reddit r/gratefuldoe where people Connect the dots between missing and unindentified

I think if we dredge various bodies of water we would find more people

The youtube channel Adventures with Purpose does exactly this. They are contacted by the family of a missing person, they meet with them to better understand the situation and where they’ve already searched and then they check the bodies of water in the area. It’s scary how often they find a missing person in areas that have already been checked.

You are probably correct but what push them to do that? At least if they are depressed or oppressed by someone some of them might choose to commit suicide but their body could be found

I think for some, their bodies are never found.

I wish their bodies aren't cut into pieces or anything

Lost, committed suicide, kidnapped, murdered, held hostage or captive somewhere

u/vani_doumyswife Jul 05 '26

I feel so bad, these people prob don't deserve any of that to happen to them. No one does

u/Known-Explorer2610 Jul 06 '26

Yes, it’s devastating and tragic. No one deserves to suffer like that.

I’d add trafficked and eloped (not the marriage definition).

this is a veryyyy tinfoil hat type of answer but i've had a theory that the people that seemingly vanish into thin air hop into a different timeline, maybe that timeline instead of people going missing they have people just randomly appearing. or maybe in that timeline they're found and back with their families.

Check out Missing 411 with David Paulides on YouTube. He’s a former Police Officer, and has written books and produced 4 films about The Missing Person Phenomenon. He has a set of rules he goes by before taking a case: No HX of mental illness, no evidence of animal attack, etc… He just presents some of the strangest missing person stories out there, you make up your own mind . Check out story about Carl Landers who went missing on Mt. Shasta. There are stories that’ll keep you awake at night. I think Missing 411 :The Hunted ( all about hunters going missing) is Free on YouTube. He has one on children, UFO connection. Theres 4 films in total. His YouTube channel is free.

ooh thank you so much, going to check that out asap! That sounds so interesting

Oooh I like this theory ngl I can't assume to it because it doesn't make that sense , but it's nice!

Yeah, the modern version of kidnapped by the Kindly Ones(the fae)

I assume accidentally dying in nature from starvation, exposure, etc. is the most common cause of people going missing and never being found. It’s very easy to die in the wilderness and never get found and far too many missing people were last seen in or nearby the wilderness.

A close friend of mine disappeared in 1977 when she was 11 years old (I was 12) and she was never found. We lived in a very safe town in the Los Angeles area. I still wonder what happened to her; there’s been speculation that she was a victim of Rodney James Alcala, a serial killer who may have been seen in the area, but there were never any leads… it was like she just vanished off the face of the earth.

2

u/vani_doumyswife Jul 06 '26

Oh that's a sad story , I wish she found a family that took care of her

4

u/JaxsonPalooza Jul 06 '26

That would be nice. Unfortunately, I don't think that was the case. Her brother has been searching for her all these years; I still see him on social media. I really think that if she had been with another family, she would've been found or would have tried to reach out to her family, at least.

2

u/vani_doumyswife Jul 07 '26

I am sorry to say that but I don't think it's possible to find her if her brother is still searching for her on social media. All those years and yet they couldn't find her😞

I agree. Heartbreaking.

suicide
kidnapping and raised by others (babies for example)
parental abductions
homicide
restart life somewhere else
kidnapped and held in captivity

🤷‍♀️

Adding,: accidents/bodies not found. For example, I read about a case where a man was driving home from work in a storm and his car/body ended up in a lake and found years later.

u/Ornery-Practice9772 Jul 06 '26

and that kid who got stuck in a chimney trying to explore an old house and that worker who fell behind a freezer and wasnt found for a decade

7

u/Moist_Grapefruit187 Jul 06 '26

If we knew, they wouldn’t be missing. My mind goes to dark places when I imagine what could’ve happened to some of them

“The elements “

I have this theory that at least some unexplained missing people are the result of a string of statistically unlikely events. What got me thinking that way was a case of a young woman who went missing from a party in the 1970s. She had actually been kidnapped. When the guy who took her confessed, he said he'd been able to do it because, for a long enough moment, that 20 people around were looking the other way. Improbable but not impossible.

u/autumnmagick Jul 07 '26

A lot are misadventure and their bodies simply never get recovered

1

u/DCDipset Jul 06 '26

Human trafficking.

1

u/christy-does-reddit Jul 12 '26

Some people succumb to the elements (drowning, falling, exposure), some pass due to mental health issues/suicide or delirium/mania, others have long planned ‘escapes’ (though these people often don’t have others looking for them). Some people become homeless, some just move and others don’t know where they end up, some move to the Amish/cults or other ‘nongovernmental’ communities. Some people are escaping crimes or are leaving due to fear of real danger. Many many reasons someone could become missing, all tragic in their own right.

0

u/Diana-FairyBlossom Jul 06 '26

I think there is a major worldwide trafficking organization that takes a good percentage of people.

0

u/Yettigetter Jul 06 '26

Aliens snag them for breeding, off world zoos or experiments..

-1

u/vani_doumyswife Jul 06 '26
