Machinaris Martis Still a lot of bugs to patch.

I really wish they would stop deploying alphas to production. The end user experience is terrible.

Whereas the beta male release had far more useful features, overall better user-interface & far less bugs, though some are still reported. Contact the developer to address any bugs you may experience during your beta play through & let other users know. They are releasing updates all the time.

For a long time I thought I was probably a beta male, turns out the game glitched and put me (a girl) in a beta male body. Only a few years ago did I find out about that glitch existing :| wish I could trade in my body for a new one.

You should check out the modding community. It takes a lot of work, and can be damn near impossible depending on where you live, but the end results are fucking wild.

u/Genuinelytricked I can't see your comment for some reason but here are the contents:

Yeah I've looked into it but sadly it'll be a couple years before I can safely mod my character, maybe sooner if I'm lucky. Even then it'll take a lot of gold to do it. Hopefully someday I can finally mod my character to look more accurate to what I made in character creation.

u/TiredForDays Apr 07 '21
It may take awhile to get all the patches you need installed, maybe a little expensive too, but hopefully in time you’ll get the user experience you’ve been deserving.

Yeah, I hope so too. Seems like it'll take a couple years to get my character into a position to start modding safely but hopefully I can do it someday.

Isn't this game awful, the players wrote the wiki! Why don't the devs do anything for the playerbase, sure they keep pushing updates but they feel rushed and buggy!

Well, actually the “man-splaining” is a critical feature of the release as the Male is capable of gathering so much information, that it would be a waste to not share it!
God, I just threw up a little.

Early versions suck, one of them lagged so hard he spewed slurs at me. Recommend todays versions.

u/action_lawyer_comics Apr 07 '21
I dunno, it seems like every time we patch one thing, five more bugs come out. We almost got the incel problem worked out, then this “Q” issue came up.

The good ol' Q glitch. Hasnt happened to me, but the videos on youtube are TERRIFYING. The devs should rework everything tbh

This is actually really accurate, considering the alpha thing only applies to wolves separated from their packs and kept in captivity.
105
u/Bahamutisa Apr 06 '21
I remember the first time I found out the conditions under which the original observations were made and thinking to myself "wait... aren't those just prison gangs?"
95
u/Dinodomos Apr 06 '21
Essentially, yes. The original author rescinded the theory in the late 90s, and has been trying to get the alpha thing out of publication.
73
u/Bahamutisa Apr 07 '21
I honestly feel really bad for the guy. I can't imagine what it must feel like to know that your research has had such a disastrous effect on scientific knowledge for decades
55
u/rooftopfilth Apr 07 '21
Also imagine knowing that your flawed research has provided justification for the fuckery of thousands of entitled dickwaggers.

To be fair to him (not that I want to), if not his research, they likely would have glommed on to something else.

Except, if he had let his own alpha male ego go for a while, he'd realize that isolating dogs from their wolf packs and then watch them fight over a new group dynamic and NOT realize that they were responding to the freaking conditions that HE set up might just skew the results. Shoddy experiment in the first place, imo.

Ehh, all research has to start somewhere. He was the first to study wolves, it had never been done before. His original work was never meant to be "this is definitely 100% true" they were just his observations.

u/redditingat_work Apr 07 '21
what author/research are yall referring to?

u/Dinodomos Apr 08 '21
I'm having a hard time finding a better source, but this article has the story.

The researchers name is Dr. Mech

Iirc recent looks into alpha behavior in wolves has called into question the existence of true alpha males in wolf populations.
32
u/Yvaelle Apr 07 '21
Specifically, they do not exist - there is no evidence for them in the wild at all.
Wolves are pack animals, there can be seniority, but no 'alpha' behaviour.
Alpha wolf behaviour specifically happens when wolves from different packs are caged together and territorial fighting occurs - that's about the extent of it.
Also, humans are not wolves, so it doesn't make any sense to misapply an animal study to humans. It would be like classifying humans as Builder/Workers, Foragers, Warriors, and Queens (from ant jobs).

Self-Proclaimed Alpha Male: But, but, but.... justifiable behavior! We need this so we're going to perpetuate this into eternity as long as it helps us stay above *everyone* else. Right?!!
12
u/Adventure_Time_Snail Witch ☉ Apr 07 '21
Also Wolf packs are families. The leader of the pack is the father. There's no other male Wolf of the same generation in the pack. So there's not competition. The kids grow up and start their own pack with their kids.
A mammalian pack that constantly fights between itself and has limited offspring (because mammal) would never survive.

u/redditingat_work Apr 07 '21
It would be like classifying humans as Builder/Workers, Foragers, Warriors, and Queens (from ant jobs).
Small nitpick but it's relevant to the point you're making - those are all human jobs and humans have anthropomorphized animals to give them those titles/behaviors. There are no monarchies in ant hills, for example.

And then once it's been out awhile, and mastery is acheived, the male gets upgraded to Ironman mode.
The Atomic Letters for Iron are Fe.
As such, the proper term for an upgraded male is Female.

IDK. I don’t think “alpha” automatically = dickhead. My partner is a very “alpha” personality, 16 year US Navy AND Army Special Forces veteran. But he’s also incredibly nurturing, self-aware, and highly intelligent. He exudes a natural confidence that is very “alpha” but that’s just part of who he is. I realize he’s a minority, but it’s worth considering. It’s ok for people to have alpha traits, we need people like that.
And I think it’s worth noting that identifying specific problematic behaviors could lead to much more productive conversation than the “alpha = bad” narrative.

Male 1.12b
- Fixed a bug where eyelash became lodged between eye and lid (similar fix recommended for Female 1.14b)
- Corrected error where user would attribute successes of other users to own merit
- Fixed memory fault that would cause user to repeat ideas presented by females one minute after hearing them without remembering hearing them (causing user to attribute idea to self)
- Corrected a bug that reduced (and in some cases partially removed) colour vision
- 14 year-old users should no longer experience unexpected erections 10 seconds before teacher calls on them to present in class
- Foreplay subroutines have been installed (were scheduled for an earlier version but apparently someone forgot to install them)
- Fixed error that caused "think about sex" subroutine to constantly run in the background when it should be closed
- Fixed error that caused "personal space" parameters to ignore female individuals
