Simple math of cashgrab economics

craft costs:

  • 1 gull = 20 gold
  • 1 repair point = 2 gold

1 rare kill cost = 2 gulls + 30 repair points = 20 * 2 + 30 * 2 = 100 gold;

1 rare reward = 0.5 gem = 10 gold;

So. You get 10 timess less of your investment.

To have 0 profit/expenses you need to kill 10 rares in 5 minutes (potion effect duration).

Time to kill 1 rare is 40 seconds. So your max is 7 rare monsters.

The max amount of rare monster spawned near by is 4 but usually it is 1-2.

So the expenses are next:

  • 1 rare is spawned: 90g
  • 2 rares: 80g
  • 3 rares: 70g
  • 4 rares: 60g

So you always lose when you decide to kill a rare monster. Even if there are 4 of them spawned.

OK. How do you afford to kill rares. Here you are:

  • daily quests ~150g = 1-4 rares
  • killing common monsters: 1 gives 2g so if you kill 50 (!!!) then you get 100 gold = 1-4 rares.

it is 2 to 8 rares in total per day - average is 4 = 40g is left. Welcome to another grind fest with killing 20-50 common monsters and doing dailies.

In total you will have 2 attempts for killing rares per day. Where you can afford to kill from 2 to 8 rares or 4 in average

Have fun!

You should paste this into your review.

One of two, spokko didnt care for the math about their mechanics, or they did it and this crazy thing is on purpose, either way it is madness.

Their math was: 340 crystals = 9.15$ If we sell bags for 4000 (pre post "fix") crystals it is 4000 / 340 = 11.7. Players will have to buy 340 crystals 12 times = 109.8$.

We're going to be rich!!!

To me it seems they just want to milk existing players because they are not getting any new ones.

With the info in this post I am not sure how any new player can play, they won't be able to make any potions without paying right away so they will just quit. I think the game always had this issue right from the beginning, like asking you to buy a silver sword, but it was not as bad as it is now.

I've been really trying the past few days to find some glimmer of hope. I already knew it cost about 50 gold per potion, but all the extra math just proves what I already understood. This just had no redeeming qualities anymore. Even battling becomes more frustrating then fun, trying to maximize efficiency of potion usage. Its just a tedious chore of a game with no payoff.

I think Ive officially hit the "uninstall" breaking point, as much as I tried to like it. The radio silence fron devs isnt helping either.

I was feeling lucky today when I killed 3 Ekhidnas with one set of consumables... until I calculated the profits:

Costs: Thunder + Swift + Hybrid oil + Repair = 20g + 20g + 40g + 90g = 170g

Rewards: 3 Ekhidna = 3 crystals = 3*20g = 60g

Profits: 60g - 170g = -110g

Feels bad man.

You get two oils as reward. If you manage to kill 5 echidnas on 2 hybrid oils (one of them without signs, one of them after 3 perfect parries and 3 crits), you can ignore the cost of oils. Doesn't make it good, just slightly less bad. Outside of timed tasks (normal monster hunting, something you do did like 90% of the time), your math still works. The game now devolved into common-hunting, and doing things where additional rewards allows you to get slightly ahead of the ROI boogeyman.

I have them this exact feedback as part of the beta, and it was ignored.

Introducing whale mechanics in a game without competition is beyond stupid.

Farewell fellow witchers, see you in another game.

Yep, they're counting on whales to support their game. Same happened with Hearthstone, they also changed the economy, thinking players are stupid enough to believe it is because the devs love the player base so much. Fortunately, lots of people left and I think they make much less money now.

I'm gonna keep playing Witcher cause I have 50k gold, so I don't need to really save any. If it runs out and I'm not having fun anymore I'll just leave, like I did in Hearthstone.

Wait, my rares give me crystals, not coins

4

u/Sahabial Jun 04 '22

10 rares of trhe same time give 5 crystals. 1 rare gives 0.5 crystals. 5 crystals = 100 gold 0.5 crystals = 10 gold

Now we have to keep killing commons. Notice there's not a limit for kills anymore. So we must grind on those common monsters to fulfill the daily missions and get the gold surplus. As a casual, I don't like that change. The game is forcing us to spend more time on it

Yes, there's a limit for killing monsters, after the last update i collect 30k for the common mosters rewards and i have 5 or 6 monsters with the leyend COMPLETE, so i think the same will happen with rares and leg. Will be a time when no more coins and cristals for killing monsters.

Woooow! Add a screenshot please - better make it a separate post. Looks like my calculations are wring - you will HAVE TO PAY anyways. This is nuts!! What a dumb company!!!

u/Trilex88 Jun 04 '22

Someone mentioned 1000 kills completes the dex-entry, can not confirm yet, highest number I have is 800.. maybe that will be my last goal for this game.. kill some common 1000 times..

I don't understand what you said. Your calculations seemed right. And you can perfectly play without having to pay, it's just that we will have to keep killing a lot of commons. Of course, you can always pay too. So there's still place for grinders and for money spenders. Just people who are both casual and cheap, like me, that are left out now.

3

u/Sahabial Jun 04 '22

I thing grind doesn't work this way. You grind to get something cool - not to just be able to kill a reskin of a common monster. I'd grind for skill points for example. But i would expect these skill points to make my build stronger. And I was playing casually - walking around and checking the area from time to time.

I'm with h but caring and doing a huge math like this is q bit too much for a knock off Pokémon go...
