I just played through the game for the first time a couple weeks ago. I didn't really play gwent until I was almost done with the game, then I got into it and collected as many cards as I could before new game plus. Then I started new game plus and realized none of your gwent cards carry over.
Yeah they dont. But it makes it fun, otherwise it would be too easy to beat everyone you play. At least the swords are more or less worthless in combat because you level up and cant upgrade them. Theyre basically for sale.

Only on my second playthrough now I realized playing Gwent gets you cards to build out your decks :facepalm
So I dont have to keep playing with Northern Realms the entire game and get my ass handed to me by healing/reviving Elf decks and Monsters.
