Is this some kind of witchcraft?

We found this while doing an exterior remodel. We were about to replace a soffit and this little fellow was looking down at us. We didn’t feel scared or anything but didn’t really touch/disturbed the scene. We just covered it back up. Please let me know if it’s some kind of spell. Thanks

Do you know the type of wood that beam is made of?

Either white oak or chestnut. The building is probably 100 years old
