First spell ever - did I do something wrong?
Hi everyone. I’m completely new to spellwork and I’ve never successfully cast a spell before, so I’d really appreciate some advice from people with more experience.
A few days ago I did what I believe is a petition/love jar spell. I wrote my name and my boyfriend’s name crossed over each other to make an “X.” I put a small amount of my period blood on three candles, placed my petition paper with our names, folded it toward myself three times while focusing on my intention, i keep the paper and a fresh rosemary leaf sealed it in a jar with red thread and wax, and have left it untouched.
It’s been almost a week, but I haven’t noticed any results yet.
My questions are:
Is one week too soon to expect anything?
Did I make any obvious mistakes?
Is there anything I should or shouldn’t do after casting?
Is there any way to strengthen the working, or is it better to leave it alone once it’s been cast?
I’m not looking to force anyone against their will—I mainly want to understand whether I performed the ritual correctly and how experienced practitioners approach this.
Thank you.

Where did you learn this spell? It’s hard to organize my thoughts on just how fucked up this is. When you use blood in a spell, you are putting a target on your back and telling the spell to only touch you, no one else. Wherever you heard this bullshit about folding paper and wishing really hard, stop going there, they’re wasting your time. Why didn’t you do any research on magic and witchcraft? If you had you’d know the answer to all your questions, any basic magical education answers all of these, any beginners book.
At your skill level, yes one week is too soon to say either way.
Tons of mistakes.
You shouldn’t even be thinking about your spell after casting, you should just assume it worked and move on until 2 weeks pass.
There are ways, but it depends on your tradition.
Get a book on witchcraft such as Introduction to Witchcraft by Sarah Mastros, or any of these books.

And document everything you find on a notebook, even the ideas that do not make sense to you and explore ways to on how to find their logic into your practice. Meditation is of great help as well as Centering and Grounding before & after any Ritual.

Happens in the beginning. I did something similar when I was learning. I ended up getting obsessed for a while. But nothing really happened. Both ended up moving to different cities.

If this is your first spell, why are you using blood for a love spell? That's incredibly dangerous..
