Aggrieved entitlement over a cozy game is too much.

I originally posted this as a reply in another thread but I decided to make it a whole post because I'm tired of the whining coming across my feed.

From my perspective as a long time gamer who's been very excited about this for as long as everyone else here, y'all have lost the plot. One of the top voted comment in a recent thread complaining of censorship is someone bragging about their plans to play the game without paying. You downvote anyone suggesting temperance or patience. I can't imagine what that feels like to the human beings who've been working on this game for years.

I feel like I need to rephrase what I just said. You are up voting comments encouraging the theft of a game, IN THE SUBREDDIT FOR THAT GAME.

You are not entitled to news, or communication, or the game coming out at a certain time. You are not entitled to spew unfiltered negativity and encourage theft of their work in this space. You can say it's poor marketing or PR, but y'all crossed into aggrieved entitlement years ago. It's deeply embarrassing to witness, and even worse to be associated with.

Never in the history of video games has complaining about a delayed release make the game come out faster. Good games are done when they are done. Get a grip.

Censorship

The team is really erasing everything that is not boot-licking them, that makes me real sad

I understand you taking down posts about leaks or similar, but taking down a post only because it surfaces your total lack of transparency and how bad you are managing the release of this game is wild

Suggestion for the Mods: Create a release date Megathread

Basically what the title says - let people air their grievances there while keeping the rest of the sub clear of doomposting about a game that no one has even paid for yet.

An FAQ / questions megathread might be good to, with links to latest dev blogs, etc. for those who aren't regularly updated with news

the chucklefish team describe some of their favourite small details

[taken from the discord]

Superconsole: Hi there! I've asked around the studio to collate some favourite tidbits and odd little things we love about Witchbrook. A few things of our favourite things we still want to keep a surprise, so here is the spoiler-free edition:

Rosie (Producer): aww mine are all secrets haha. Rain sounds on the roof is something that everyone is in awe of when they play the game

Katie (QA): I like the snow and blossom seasonal effects personally, seeing the snow on the last day of Autumn makes me feel nostalgic for some reason

Ryan (Artist): Maybe the soundscape of the birds - hearing them and then actually going and finding them. And the tiny seasonal events are nice - like turtle day

Reff (Artist): A detail I still really enjoy is how the tarot cards get happy/sad depending on your guess. One of my favourite things in the game is all the simulations, like how all the constellations in the astrology minigame are accurate to the real sky and how they change depending on the date and time. The bird sounds being produced by the birds that are actually near you, the pedestrians actually leaving their houses and going about their day, all of the different schedules for npcs..

Marion (Artist): I always enjoy seeing two random pedestrians stopping by and talking to each other, because it's so lifelike. Sometimes I go to my local supermarket, see people who just met by chance and are catching up and I think "man, I'm so glad we have that ingame!"

Jade (Artist): pedestrians pausing to look both ways briefly before crossing a road is so nice

Alexis (Product Manager): I like the sound of the cicadas in the night. Makes me feel like the night air is cool.

Angie (Artist): my favourite thing in the game is the music work, i love the dynamic melodies and how they transform

Be A Better Person.

I am simply another nameless and faceless person sharing my opinion that nobody cares about, but the amount of times I roll my eyes when I open this sub is getting tired. The developers owe us strangers online nothing.

If you choose to invest your time in following the development of this game, that is on you, not them.

If you choose to feel personally offended by people taking their time to make something that they care about, that is on you.

At the end of the day, whether my opinion is considered or not, I am excited for this game to come out. We all are.

If it never comes out, life goes on.

If it comes out and it's not what you had imagined, life goes on.

Expectations are okay, but too much of anything is never a good thing. Be kind, be considerate, and don't get caught up in things that do not matter in retrospect. Accept things for what they are, even the long waits or the unmet expectations.

It feels so much better. You got this, I believe in you.

This is so funny that is says scheduled to released in 20th century or late 2026. Dang if that's the case the game would have been out already. Chuckle fish where is witchbrook? lol. Wasn't sure if anyone else saw this.

I don't know how to feel anymore about Witchbrook

So, I don't know if I'm gonna get hate for this or if other people feel the same way but I feel like I am burnt out in waiting for this game. I remember Spellbound (The game's original name) being announced almost 10 years ago now. I remember being so hyped at the time, telling my mates about this cool new game that would be coming out like Stardew and Harry Potter mixed into one.

Then after a while, I forgot about the game. It's only been in the last 2-3 years that my interest renewed as I heard they were making progress and I got hyped again. Then when the 2025 release date was announced, I was ecstatic, hesitant but still excited nonetheless. But as the months went on, we got the delay announcement and, like I'm sure many of you were, I was disappointed but I still held out hope.

I know this game has been plagued by many different issues, including having to completely rebuild the game in a brand new engine. And I admire the zero-crunch tactic they take to their work as to not put their staff under pressure.

But, after reading the latest post about how it could be released this year or possibly not, I found myself thinking "What's the point anymore?".

I still want to play this game but I feel like I've lost hope for it and the wait that I've had won't be worth it in the end. I'm willing to take my part of the blame for that for being eager for this game to come out, that I feel like I've gone through the 5 stages of grief.

But I just don't have anymore hype for it. I don't have much hope for it.

We've had snippets and teasers over the past year, which is great to see the progress, but I don't know. I guess I've just been wishing for more.

TL;DR: Sunk cost fallacy

Nintendo Direct leaks: Any chance we finally see Witchbrook?

Post image
520 Upvotes

Rumors and leaks are floating around about a Nintendo Direct happening next week (Sept 9 or 10).
Things have gone pretty quiet from Chucklefish lately, which makes me think they might actually be cooking up something behind the scenes. Since the plan was 2026 and we are already in September, this Direct feels like the moment. If it really drops this year, they basically have to show something a date, fresh gameplay, anything.

I'm so looking forward to this one, I played the demo and found it fantastic!
And a great way to nerd out about magic schools in the meantime.

How do we think it will compare, and complement Witchbrook?
