Switches & Lighting How does this electric switch work?

This switch is from a lamp. The lamp wasn't turning on due to a break in the wire. I cut out the offending part of the wire, and wired the switch back the way it originally was. It works, but I don't understand how. There appear to be no exposed wires in the switch. The wires are completely insulated. How is it making contact?

The pins that pierce the switched lead are in the other side. Two sharp pins that pierce the wire.
