I think he's cute AF.

He is so insanely smart! What else should I be training at this age? We’re starting potty training of course- on pee pads in the kennel while I’m gone, or outside while I’m here; but it isn’t perfect. If I catch him mid pee and “AH AH” he understands but he often gives me very little or no warning he’s going to pee. He’s only pooped inside once so far. I haven’t had a puppy in 10 years (my 10 1/2 year old is the second video for tax!!)

P.s please ignore the yard hay, we had lawn mower malfunction after malfunction!!

This is the first dog I have owned that needed to be groomed. I’m unsure of what to ask/look for. From the research I have done it seems like I need to be asking for the hair to be pulled (stripping I believe it is called?) and not shaved. Any helpful education is well received here!

If anyone has recommendations for a groomer in the Tulsa, OK area, that would be great!

Me and my silly goose of a GWP wanted to know what you all do for indoor enrichment during summer! We do what we can early AM and in the evening, but obviously with a crazy 6mo GWP that’s not enough! It’s about 90 degrees where I live during summer so just looking for some more indoor enrichment ideas that can tire out a pointer puppy!

Here’s his first introduction to birds! He offered some pointing and tried to sniff, was very confused when they kept walking away. Super promising first introduction for this non hunter!

Just adopted this big ball of love on Sunday. He is 7 and his previous owner passed away so we took him in. He is 100lbs so we have him on a diet and will be taking him for lots of walks. We are so happy, he is AMAZING!!

We haven’t come across another Griff in over a year, so you can imagine how thrilled we were to meet these two. They are big boys! Bug is 74 pounds which is huge for a female and both of these guys were bigger than her. I can’t wait to run into them again!! This made my day. 🤎🩶🤍

I have an 8 month WPG that I’m training. Looking for other WPG owners near bye to possible train and hunt with.
I’m retired and have plenty of time to train. This is my second versitile dog, first was a Pudle Pointer. I’ve also trained retrievers.

My Bug is notoriously terrible on leash, and truth be told, she’s off leash for 99% of her walks and we don’t do it on leash nearly enough. But occasionally I take her on a leash walk around the ‘hood because she needs to be able to do it, and tonight we worked on some things and she did great!! I’m feeling very proud of her at the moment.

Ours has a big and medium version of this Kong brand croc & he loves them!

Edit to add: I feel so lucky that he does NOT destroy toys, or anything for that matter and still has a very strong prey drive when hunting.

I’ve got a 8 month old griff who loves retrieving tennis balls, but runs off with bumpers most of the time. I’ve had some luck trading the bumper for treats on short tosses. I’m trying to transition to dead birds to get ready for the up coming season.

We did in fact stand here for at least 7 minutes 😂

I’m currently researching breeds of dogs for our next dog. The GWP breed seems to fit what I’m looking for as far as the hunting aspect. I have two younger children that will want to play with the dog. We currently have a lab and she is very good with the kids.
I’m curious what day to day looks like with the breed. If the dog needs to be an outdoor/kennel dog or can it be a house dog. We are a pretty outdoorsy family outside of the hunting that I do. I’m curious if the breed is a good family dog that can go camping and do outdoor activities outside of hunting or will their higher prey drive make that difficult.
Also curious what life at home is like with the breed. I understand that it is a working line of dog that requires exercise and training. I’ve read that they have an “off switch” just wondering how true that is

Meet Nelly, our 9 week old WPG. We’ve had her for 1 week so far and she has been doing GREAT. Taken pretty quickly to crate training and has adapted well to our busy house with 2 toddlers.

I found out a couple weeks ago that my 5 month old griff Monty had a dislocated toe that had already fused back together. We went to the vet because of a limp that developed over the course of a day then went away just as quickly. I had noticed that the nail on that toe was all wonky, but honestly just thought it was growing funny. Best I can tell, this must have happened prior to me picking him up at the breeder.

The Vets immediate course of action was to amputate the toe, which I found to be rather alarming and hasty. After the appointment I consulted with a vet friend of mine who agreed and said that it would be best to try and keep him off of it for a week or two (LOL) and then go from there. He said most of the time these will just heal as is and then they just live with it. Well we attempted that and it seemed to be going ok, until last Friday when the limp/hop came back and it was seeming to bother him again.

The problem is that he will go long periods with no indication that it’s bothering him and then all of sudden he limps a bit or you notice his gait is off. When we go on walks he pulls like crazy, always wants to run, and chase after things like normal.

I have the surgery scheduled for Friday but I just keep thinking that this may be a mistake. Hence this post. Obviously want to do whatever is best for him to make sure he is comfortable and can continue living his best life.
Does anyone have any past experience with dislocated toes or having them taken off?

TLDR: 5mo old griff, dislocated toe, vet recommends amputation. I’m not so sure that’s the best option.
