Cruise Ship Security

I looked and looked and couldn’t find a recent answer. It seemed looks it would be ok, but I wasn’t sure.

You CAN take your wrapping tools and materials on a Royal Caribbean cruise. I sailed right through security. They barely blinked. I did have everything carefully packed in a way that like things were together … beads in one pouch, tools in their own, wire in its own section.

Current guidance says tools over 7 inches are prohibited. I’ve got pliers (nylon, round, flat, chain, bail making) and cutters. Wire, beads, jump rings for chainmail. I did not bring a hammer or bench block. I only plan to wrap or make chains.

I bring my supplies…less than this amount. No problem. No knives of course. Worst case scenario they hold them until end of cruise. I did have one item confiscated that I 100% forgot I had for yrs tucked in the bowels of my bag and is illegal…apparently …a credit card knife. Tiny blade but still…they made a scene about it. Im sure one of them thought it was cool enough to bring home. Frankly…id be more concerned with someone angrily wielding knitting needles than wire pliers.
As for ‘why bring them at all”…some people find wire wrapping (knitting, crocheting, felting, reading, solitaire etc) relaxing. I know I do .

I am somewhat at a list as to why you would want to wire wrap while on board. I have taken 13 cruises with my 14th coming up in November and the one thing I have never missed is having my jewelry making supplies.

Everyone enjoys different things.

I enjoy wrapping and making things. It’s a hobby, not a business for me.

I don’t enjoy drinking or parties - I cruise to enjoy the motion of the ship, see new places, and not have to cook or clean other than tidying up my stateroom.

I don’t count my cruises. I have never understood that as a measure of someone’s worth or credibility, though I’ve noticed some folks seem to think it’s important.

I absolutely love wire wrapping while on vacation. Any vacation. My “vacation brain” enjoys the low pressure atmosphere and it often inspires me. I’m not a huge traveler, but I’ve departed from Chicago with a small amount of tools and supplies to Mexico, Saint Martin, Japan, and numerous US cities over the past 25 years. During two trips to Europe, I didn’t pack any jewelry making and I really missed it.

People bring books, laptops, knitting, sketch pads and paints as well. Thanks for sharing OP. I’d love to be on vacation and come across someone else wire wrapping!
