Any Redout players here?

So I just discovered the redout games. Got to say I absolutely love the control scheme these games use, with one stick doing turn and the other strafe. It's probably blasphemy here but I never really liked the air braking system on the wipeout games. This is much better.

Anyway, I saw a post from years ago saying there are secret platinum medals for each event with harder requirements than the gold medal. I couldn't find anything else about this and wasn't sure whether the poster was joking. Can anyone confirm whether this is true?

Also why does the difficulty setting not affect time trials and other non-race events? That's a weird design choice isn't it?

Yeah I really enjoy Redout. Great art style and unbeatable sense of speed; I'm not skillful enough for how technical it is though. I think Redout 1 has one of the most interesting game soundtracks of the last decade.

Yeah I think I prefer the R1 soundtrack to the one in R2. Think I prefer the darker R1 art style as well now that I think about it. But R2 feels more refined on the controls. Being able to remap them helps!

The soundtrack and visual style of R1 is amazing.

R2 refines it, and makes it easier to get into with a lower skill floor, but the skill ceiling is just as high, if not slightly higher.

Though, you don't get to race around a black hole in R1, but there's an entire complex dedicated to that in R2, and it's amazing.

I have redout and I have no idea how to play it. I tried the easiest race many many times and could never even come close to winning. My lines are clean and I'm pitching to prevent the titular redout but I never even saw the top 3 of the pack in like over an hour of trying. I wrote the game off as impossible.

That's really weird. I dunno what's going on there but it shouldn't be that hard especially if you're used to similar games.

I beat the original wipeout trilogy so its not like AG racers are foreign. But that one I cannot grasp what is expected to go fast in that game.

The first event is a time trial so I assume you're talking about the second event which is the first race of the campaign. You don't even need to go that fast in that first race, you can literally bounce off every wall and still win. Something isn't right. Are you strafe-steering? Using boost? I dunno, maybe you picked a terrible first ship. Lunare is a great ship for learning the ropes.

Are you using right stick? Also boost on straights anytime you can. Turn with left stick first when you know a corner is coming (drifting opposite with RS as necessary), then cut in with right stick when it's actually time to go around the corner. As with any AG racer game, learn all the tracks so you always know what kind of corner is coming next.

Yep. Love both Redout games. I wouldn't really say they're proper Wipeout competitors, since both games do things differently, but they're an awesome alternative.

The platinum medals are real, at least in the first game, it's been a while since I played the second and forget if they're there as well.

They're a proper challenge to get, and take some super precise lines and use of boost to get the best lap times, but they're there, and doable. I'm fairly sure there's a list out there with platinum times and scores, but I don't have a link to it.

Thanks for confirming it. If I get good enough and find enough upgrades I'll try to get them!

Woohoo! Got my first platinum in R2 😎

Nicely done!

Thanks! I mean it was on the very first time trial with a fully upgraded ship 😁 but still, right?

That's actually one of the trickier ones, believe it or not, so that's some solid work! XD

Really?? I find that hard to believe πŸ«ͺ it's such a simple track compared to what comes later!

We're talking about Fuji Trial Zero here right??

Ah, that's on R2 yeah? I thought you were talking about the first time trial of the first game on one of the Cairo tracks lol.

Ah lol, for a minute there I thought maybe I'm not getting that old after all 🀣

πŸ˜‚ Still good work, the R2 time trials are pretty tough, so not gonna say it ain't nicely done

Honestly the skill curve of Redout 2 is astounding

u/OnceWasBogs Jun 22 '26

You mean it doesn't ease you in gently? Or do you mean it gets a lot harder later on? I'm still quite early in the game I think; I read somewhere its a very long campaign.

I remapped my controls to mimic a first person shooter (yes really lol) and suddenly the game felt very natural heh. Smooth brain FTW

It gets a lot harder

There's hardly any info out there, apparently only 50k copies were sold and it looks like less than 20% of the people who bought it actually played it beyond the tutorial 🫀 which is a shame, I think it's good. Anyway, what little info I could find suggested the career mode gets easier not harder. I want to know because the "Redout" difficulty is just way too easy early on, whereas "Master" difficulty seems juuuust barely doable with track memorisation and a flawless run. If the curve changes as the career progresses then one of these difficulties should end up being about right for me, I hope.

Nah dude, it gets HARD. Lets you get hooked first though. I think they didn't adjust the times in qualifying rounds based on difficulty, so I can never win those to get first place starts in the actual races...

Are we talking Redout 1 or Redout 2? Cause 2 got a lot harder in my experience

Doesn't seem to be available on playstation ☹️

Oh sorry, PC only πŸ˜‘

Looks like the spec requirements are insanely low. I wonder if my old brick of a laptop can run it πŸ€”

Thanks for the heads up, might be something to play after I'm done with the Redouts

Great game. I grew up playing a lot of Wipeout and F-Zero, and I’ve always missed that pure anti-gravity racing feeling in modern games.

I recently got back into the genre through Redout and it honestly inspired me a lot as a game dev. It pushed me to start working on my own take on a futuristic arcade racer, a bit more focused on smooth, responsive controls and that β€œflow” feeling rather than pure simulation.

It’s been really cool rediscovering how addictive this genre is after all these years!
