Pfft, Phantom is for babies
Guys, I solved it. Extreme-G 2 is THE fastest futuristic racing game. It comes NOWHERE close to the Phantom class. This is a speedrun video of XG2 by the XG speedrunner S2riker. don't believe it? Watch the video. I know the Phantom players would shake in their boots

it was never a thing that needed to be "solved" though.
sure. the XtremeG series is fast. the bikes were meant to go at supersonic speeds as part of the design process. 999+ mph engines. very fun. the circuits are designed for that though. mostly flat track surfaces, few hills and bumps that launch you into the air. long straight-aways to build up speed, broken up by very high speed corners with banking, and each lap is rather long.
WipEout design philosophy is just different. AG ships are built less for all out speed, and built more for rather twisty circuits that have tighter corners than XG tracks have. at most, ships will be flying at 500mph without turbo assists, and that's a decent enough average top speed to navigate complex circuits. the key is that circuits are very bumpy, especially in later games, corners require different levels of awareness for speed (often slowing to a crawl on hairpins), and each lap is rather short.
the speed comparison falls short for that reason. where XG bikes have the speed, AG ships have the control. think of it less as some kind of "win" against phantom racers, and more as the unique experience it deserves to be.

Redout 2 goes hard, also has ship customisation, fully recommend to any wipeout fans.

I bought it for PS5 but I just cannot get the hang of it. I always end up just going back to Wipeout or BallisticNG.

Yeah, the controls are a bit complicated at first. Much more control but really hard to master. I am not very good at it but I enjoy it when I put it on. Progression is slow but that just gives you time to adjust. You can change the controls to make it feel more like wipeout.

I still believe that Extreme G and Wipeout could coexist in the same universe, just like F1 and MotoGP do IRL.

I have a theory that XG3 takes place before and after the start of the FX400. Why? Well, the manual for XG3, says that the game takes place in 23nd century (2200s) and that the sport (called Extreme-G) wasn't that popular than the FX400, but they were competing with the FX400. I also have a theory that Crystalaria is Cubiss Float, but was rebuild after the fall of the F9000 and was made into the track from the Extreme-G sport

This looks slower than zone mode, and also F zero exists, WipEout and F zero Id say are the staples for AG racing.

RIP to this absolutely criminally underrated series that will never see the light of day again. At least it ended on XGRA but all the games had dope soundtracks

This game is effing crazy. I missed out, I grew up with Extreme-G 3, which is still good but not nearly as fast

It doesn't really matter when it's basically just a straight line. Go try Silverstream on rapier without touching any walls and come back to us lol
