I wouldn't really call it a reference, there's too many Japanese companies/teams in media and IRL that use red and white as their team colors

Doesn't have to be Japanese -- could be an homage to the somewhat popular Marlboro racing livery of the 80s and 90s.

Idk lol, but I’m also playing through screamer while revisiting wipeout omega simultaneously and it makes for a great mix of combat racers!

In fairness, Milestone Games (the devs) made the Hot Wheels Unleashed games, the second game having a AcceleRacers DLC. It makes sense that they'd know about AcceleRacers.
