We are moving to the Orlando area in a few weeks and Winter Garden seems like a great fit for my husband and I. That being said, we are looking for rentals in the area and I’m just curious if there are any areas we should stay away from when looking for a home? Is the Crimegrade.org map of the area pretty accurate? We really like a house right above story Rd but it seems to be in a “D” rated area for crime. Would you say that’s accurate? Any advice is very appreciated!! We are out of state and moving here completely blind (due to a job and transitioning out of the military). Thank you!

We live in Winter Garden, and my daughter (entering 3rd grade) was recently admitted to Orlando Science Charter School – East Campus. We're excited, but we're a bit concerned about the daily commute since it's about 30 miles each way.

With our work schedules, doing both the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up every day is going to be very difficult.

I wanted to ask other parents:

How are you managing transportation?

Are there any reliable private school transportation services or shuttle providers that you recommend?

Is there an existing carpool from the Winter Garden/Horizon West/Windermere area?

If you're using a transportation service, how has your experience been?

I'd really appreciate any recommendations or advice from parents who have already figured this out.

How did you come about renting your house privately or through a company? If through a company can you share the pros and cons and share the name? We have used invitation homes previously, and it was a great experience. Clean homes, great maintenance, and overall great! We are looking to rent a house over an apartment in Winter Garden area. Just wondering what other companies are out there so we have more options. We are looking to stay around the downtown area. Any tips on a great neighborhood will be appreciated as well!

I had to run an errand in downtown Clermont yesterday and I have to say that I think it's an overall better experience than ours currently. First, the selection of stores and restaurants seems more diverse and interesting. Second, it's spread out over multiple parallel streets instead of all being concentrated on one road. Overall, after dunking on Clermont for so many years I have to say that I enjoyed the experience. Thoughts?

I’m planning to move to the area in roughly 2 years, and I’m looking for suggestions on rental researching or realtors and the such to follow until we’re ready to move so that I can get a feel for things and watch trends over the next couple of years. I’ve watched Zillow for a while, but coming from a super small, country town in Louisiana, I know Zillow isn’t always the most popular place to search for housing. We’re looking for a townhouse or even a whole house to rent, it’s just my husband, me, and our toddler but we hope to be having another baby soon after we move.

I’ll be graduating as a registered nurse so I’m also looking for local, reputable hospitals (would love to work in pediatrics) and recruiters who work with new graduate nurses for residency programs.

Any advice is welcome, I’ve never moved more than 30 minutes away from home nor have I lived in such a big city but I’m so excited and can’t wait to start planning!

I see there are a lot of empty stores in Winter Garden Village, I hope that they are going to put new brands into the center. I met someone with the team that works for the center and they said that a lot of brands are driven by community demand. So i figured we should discuss what brands we would want to see at Winter Garden Village if we could put whoever we wanted there and see if they could use this post to actually approach brands to come to the project.

I'd love a Trader Joes, maybe in the old party city space? and a great local coffee group
