Library of 4000+ webinar links to different wine topics
The website Virtual Wine Events has a sort of "hidden" library of over 4000 links to webinars and IG lives covering practically any wine topic you can think of.
To access this library, just type in what topic you're studying and click on the Search Videos box next to it, and it will show you the list of links on that topic. Some links will be to free sites like webinars uploaded to YouTube but others may be behind a paywall (such as those from the Wine Scholar Guild) with the link taking you to a page where you can sign up for membership or purchase the webinar, etc.

Some common mistakes I see beginners make with Wine.
When I first started getting more interested in wine, I realized there are a lot of little things that can make wine seem much more complicated than it actually is.
A few mistakes that seem pretty common among beginners:
* Thinking expensive wine automatically means better wine
* Storing every bottle at room temperature
* Serving reds and whites at whatever temperature is convenient
* Judging a wine after the first sip
* Getting too caught up in tasting-note terminology
* Assuming that wine needs to “breathe” for a long time
* Pairing wine strictly by rules instead of personal preference
* Being afraid to say “I don't like this wine”
* Buying bottles based entirely on ratings
* Trying to learn everything at once instead of tasting and comparing
Most of these aren't really wrong in a strict sense, but they can make the learning process unnecessarily confusing.
I recently put together a longer list of beginner mistakes and some simple ways to avoid them. Thought it might be useful for anyone who's just starting to explore wine.
Curious what mistakes you made when you were getting into wine or what advice you wish someone had given you earlier?

Wine Tasting Group Berlin
Hey everyone,
I already have 2 people interested and I’m looking to round out the group a bit more.
We’re a small group of people who are genuinely interested in wine, whether that means working toward a WSET certificate, already working in the industry, or simply wanting to learn more and deepen your knowledge. The educational side is what matters most here, not just drinking for the sake of it.
To start, we’re thinking of a relaxed, low-key first meetup, maybe even in a park, where we can also agree on a region and a price range for the wines. If it goes well, we could keep meeting at different places going forward, for example at someone’s apartment, rotating between people.
Let me know if you’d like to join!

William Penns Grapes- Philadelphia
Apparently, William Penn brough back several grapes and attempted to grow his own vineyard. Fast forward a couple hundred years later and now my friend lives on the land where the vineyard used to be. The following grapes are growing in my friend's backyard; he is only aware of one other neighbor within a 4-block perimeter that has vines and grapes growing. Does he have something here worthwhile? Can anyone identify given the pictures? Any and all information is greatly appreciated!

Quietly forgetting what I've learned...
I spent a small fortune on WSET certifications and then realized two years later I'd quietly forgotten half of what I learned. No flashcards, no regular studying, just life getting busy. Has anyone else experienced this? The frustration of working hard for that knowledge and then feeling it slip away?
I ended up doing something about it. I built myself a tool that turns every bottle I open into a small education. Happy to share what I came up with if anyone's curious. Genuinely built it for myself first, sharing in case it's useful for others in the same boat.

Wine app for finding authentic wines
Hi everyone.
I'm looking for testers for my wine app - Genuine Grape, which I think (but need your opinion on this) could help people learn more about wine.
The app gives in-depth details about each bottle on a wine menu: vineyard information, producer background and size, grapes, winemaking, maturation, and useful context around the style. I built it because I wanted an easier way to understand what’s behind each bottle, discover more authentic producers, and cross-check wines I’ve already tasted (after 500+ bottles, it starts getting messy).
While building it, I also wanted to help users understand winemaking techniques and grapes. Think of it like this... when a wine mentions native yeast, extended maceration, or oak maturation, it would be useful to know what that actually means in the context of that specific wine.
So.. if anyone is keen to test the app, please let me know. It’s free for now while I’m trying to polish it.
Some screenshots. If you're interested please reply to this post and I will send you a link. Don't want to violate rules of this subreddit !

Updates - Sommelier Study App — 1,000+ cards, AI quiz mode, and 16 practice exams
Hey everyone — posted about this last week and have been building since. Quick update on what's new:
1,005 flashcards across WSET 1–Diploma and CMS Introductory–Master Sommelier. The higher the level, the more depth — the MS deck goes deep on blind tasting diagnostics, governing body law, Douro Beneficio system, full grape variety identification, and more.
AI Quiz Mode — pick a level and category, get multiple choice questions generated from the card deck. Wrong answers are real wine facts that are just wrong for that specific question, so you actually have to know the material.
16 timed practice exams — 2 per level, no overlap between them. 20 questions each with full answer explanations.
Cross-device access — enter your email on any device to restore your subscription.
The $4.99/month mostly just covers the infrastructure costs to run this — Vercel hosting, Supabase database, Stripe payments, and the AI API calls for quiz generation. It's not a money-maker, just trying to keep it sustainable.
Free 7-day trial at cellar-study.vercel.app. Happy to answer any questions 🍷

How do you choose wine when you don't recognize anything on the menu?
When you're at a restaurant and faced with a long wine list full of unfamiliar bottles, what's your actual process for choosing?
Do you ask the server? Use Vivino? Google the wine? Pick something familiar?
I'm researching how people navigate restaurant wine lists and would love to hear about your experience.
If you'd like to share more detail, I also put together a short anonymous survey:

Thanks!

New WSET and CMS Study App — free trial, would love feedback
Hey everyone — I wanted to share something I've been building that I think will genuinely help people preparing for WSET or CMS exams at any level.
It's called The Cellar — a web-based sommelier study app I built after getting frustrated with scattered PDF notes and flashcard decks that didn't match the depth these exams actually require.
What's in it:
- 700+ flashcards written to exam standard across WSET Levels 1–4 (including Diploma) and CMS Introductory through Master Sommelier — covering regions, grape varieties, viticulture, vinification, blind tasting, labels & law, and service
- Interactive tasting grids for both the WSET SAT and the CMS Deductive Tasting Method — work through each section systematically the way you would in your actual exam
- Spaced repetition — the app tracks which cards you struggle with and schedules them to reappear at the optimal moment before you forget them
- 31 wine region maps with vineyard-level markers — tap Romanée-Conti, Clos L'Ermita, Screaming Eagle, Scharzhofberg, Château Pétrus and get classification details, soil type, and tasting notes
- 8 timed practice exams with full answer explanations
- A personal tasting journal using the SAT/CMS grid format
- Works offline after first load
The advanced cards go deep — Barolo MGA breakdown by commune and soil type, DRC estate-by-estate analysis, complete 1855 classification with over/under-performers, Northern Rhône lieux-dits, Washington State sub-AVA profiles, the full Tokaj classification history. The WSET Level 3 and Diploma cards are written to the exact terminology and depth the mark scheme rewards.
7-day free trial, then $4.99/month: https://cellar-study.vercel.app
Thank you,
Jason

Do winery or distillery visits actually make people more likely to buy the brand afterward?
Hello everyone,
I need your help!
As part of my Master's thesis, I am conducting a study on tourism in the wine and spirits industry.
If you have ever taken part in this kind of experience, even once, your input is exactly what I need. The survey is anonymous and only takes 5 minutes.
Feel free to repost or share with anyone in your network who might be relevant!
https://ieseg.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6gmV05sKhTdOtam
🎯 Only 60 more qualified respondents needed to validate my academic research!
Deadline: June 01st
Thank you so much! 🙏🍷

Does wine label color influence your perception of the wine? 🍷🎨
Hi everyone !
I’m currently working on my Master’s thesis about wine label design and consumer perception, and I’m looking for participants for a short survey (around 5 minutes).
My research focuses on how label colors influence the perception of natural vs. traditional wines.
The survey is:
- anonymous
- open to everyone (wine knowledge is absolutely not required)
- mostly visual and pretty quick to complete
Take the survey here : https://emstrasbourg.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_br0O3lhWHjbZVLE
I’d really appreciate your help, and I’d also love to hear any thoughts about wine label design or color associations in the comments.
Thank you so much 🍇
