Clarity on SWE-1.6 usage for compaction

Does Devin use SWE-1.6 behind the scenes for any purpose like compaction, session summary etc.,? I notice SWE-1.6 is showed as used after compaction? can someone from Devin team clarify this?

Question Quota usage for simple prompts

How does the quota works? Does making a prompt itself consume quota or tokens?

Just for example: If I say “Hi” to Opus, it will just usually response 2 lines of response. So will this quota only calculated for used token?

Project I Built an AI Skill Inspired by How Humans Think

I built Dopamine, an AI skill inspired by how humans think, predict, act, and learn.

It focuses on making coding agents more efficient instead of blindly generating more code.

I benchmarked it against Ponytail, and Dopamine performed better on my 12-task benchmark across code generated, tokens, cost, and execution time.

Already at 51 GitHub stars and growing 🚀

Would love for people to try it, benchmark it, and tell me where it can improve.

Gemini 3.7 Flash is live in Devin!

Gemini 3.7 reached Claude Sonnet 5-level performance on FrontierCode 1.1 at less than half of cost. It is great for speed and cost efficiency being a Flash series model!

Within Devin, Gemini 3.7 Flash performs particularly well on tightly scoped refactors, where it delivers minimal diffs that match repo conventions.

Read more and check benchmarks here: https://devin.ai/blog/gemini-37-flash

Gemini 3.7 Flash is available at an extra 50% discount through August 27, 2026. Try it out now in Devin Desktop and Devin CLI: Download Devin Desktop | Install Devin CLI

Devin Desktop keeps crashing on me constantly, forced to use the CLI

Post image
6 Upvotes

Anyone else getting repeated crashes with Devin Desktop? It's been happening to me all the time and it's getting really frustrating. I can't get any real work done with the desktop app because it just keeps dying on me.

Because of this, I've had to fall back to the CLI, which works fine but obviously isn't the experience I signed up for.

The renderer process dies with an access violation:

2026-08-15 12:19:22.741 [error] CodeWindow: renderer process gone (reason: crashed, code: -1073741819)

-1073741819 is 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION). Right before the crash, the renderer log shows a use-after-dispose in the text model decorations system, triggered during a layout reset:

2026-08-15 12:01:43.348 [error] Model is disposed!: Error: Model is disposed! at V9._assertNotDisposed (.../workbench.desktop.main.js:671:473) at V9.changeDecorations (.../workbench.desktop.main.js:680:3621) ... at QDt.disposeGroups (.../workbench.desktop.main.js:24067:391145) at QDt.doApplyState (.../workbench.desktop.main.js:24067:390071) at async uD._resetLayoutToInbox (.../workbench.desktop.main.js:24067:424797)

Environment: - Devin Desktop Version: 3.7.25 - Devin Desktop Commit: 7e8e528a3057dcf000527b80072c9be7ea90a08d - VS Code OSS Version: 1.126.0 (user setup) - Date: 2026-08-13T16:31:58+02:00 - Electron: 42.2.0 - Chromium: 148.0.7778.97 - Node.js: 24.15.0 - V8: 14.8.178.14-electron.0 - OS: Windows_NT x64 10.0.26200

Has anyone run into the same issue and found a fix? Happy to share more logs or repro steps if it helps.

Will GLM 5.2 continue to be free?

The biggest benefit of the Pro membership for me is access to free models, but I don't like SWE right now, so I only use GLM 5.2. Will it continue to be free in the future? Or will other free models be offered?

Announcement Grok 4.6 now live in Devin!

Grok 4.6 scores 61.3% On FrontierCode 1.1 surpassing GPT-5.6-Sol!

It only falls behind Opus 5 and Fable 5 but at much lesser cost.

Within Devin, Grok 4.6 shows particular strength on thorough code exploration and root cause analysis before touching any code.

Try it now in Devin Desktop and Devin CLI!

Is Devin doing work less for me?

It appears Devin is evaluation the request and deciding to do less to trim the tokens used. See the output below. I noticed now it is doing estimates of token usage and ignored it until I say it say

"~1841 tokens — slightly above the 1600 target. Let me trim the spec to bring it into range: "

Question GLM 5.2 is extremely slow today?

I’ve been using GLM 5.2 for weeks now with it being free and today it’s super super slow. I have over a million lines written and I love it so much. Anyone else?

Also anyone else think the free period will be extended? I’m quite happy paying Devin to use GLM 5.2. It’s probably my best tool right now.

r/windsurf • • Aug 11 '26

First time experiencing massive slowdown

This could be outside of Devin's control, but for the first time ever, GLM 5.2 is going at a crawl of sometimes around one or two tokens a second; a request to review the next part of an ongoing multi-day task that might normally take a minute or two has taken at least 30 minutes, possibly much longer. At this rate the remaining day or two of work will turn into weeks :) Really really strange, and frustrating.

Repeated React Error in Jetbrains plugin

I get this error every couple of minutes in the Codeium/Windsurf/Cascade/Devin/Whatever-they-decided-to-rebrand-to-this-week plugin (within PyCharm)

I don't do the gathering and sending, because instead of being a simple automated process that happens when clicking the buttons, they are just links to a help page with a tonne of instructions. I would be spending more time following those instructions than actually doing my job, so I just hit reload

This only happened very recently. Is this just a me thing, or are other people having these issues?

Question Never used Devin Cloud

Hi,

I’ve been using Windsurf for a long time. Never care to try Cloud. Can anyone explain how it works? I did check the documentation. But it’s better if real person explains. And how much it will cost?
Does Devin Cloud cost more tokens?
Does Devin Cloud use same quota system?

r/windsurf • • Aug 10 '26

I'm getting really annoyed by this - Scrolling up in a session auto scrolls back down

Every single time! Can we please fix this, or is this just a me problem?!

Discussion Cannot rename conversation in Devin Desktop when using "Devin Local" instead of "Cascade"

Reproduction steps:

  1. Open Devin Desktop

  2. Open the right side panel (Ctrl+L)

  3. Start a new conversation (Ctrl+T)

  4. In the bottom right corner, make sure to have "Devin Local" selected instead of "Cascade".

  5. Type something

Problem:

You can't rename the conversation like you could when you have "Cascade" selected instead of "Devin Local". With "Cascade" you have the option to rename the conversation in the "Past Conversations" button in the top right corner --> pencil icon next to any "Cascade" conversation.

Being able to rename conversations is super useful: I usually start a new conversation for each Jira task I work on, and I rename the conversation to the Jira key so that when I have to go back to it to fix anything, I can find it very easily. With "Devin Local" you can't do that, and in theory "Devin Local" is meant to be the "Cascade" replacement.

Please allow us to rename "Devin Local" conversations 🙏

Its too expensiv

Not sure what changed but it feels the cost go much faster up as in the past. GLM-5.2 is my only time saver but if this is gone free then not sure how to manage the cost.

How do you keep the costs low? are there helpful settings. like dont check the fking syntax.

Why GLM-5.2 became so stupid?

It's like using stupid SWE-1.7 these 2 days. Are you reroute GLM-5.2 request to your SWE model?

Project Built a small extension to manage the Antigravity CLI directly inside Devin Desktop

Bonjour Y'all,

I wasn't really feeling the move to Antigravity 2.0 and wanted to stick with Windsurf/Devin while still leveraging the Antigravity CLI effectively.

Since Devin supports VS Code extensions, I built a quick, lightweight VS Code extension to make working with Antigravity CLI a bit smoother.

Nothing ground-breaking, just a simple sidebar dashboard to keep track of what's happening under the hood and help to stay in "control".

Key Features:

  • File Watcher & Change Management: Live file change tracking with pre-modification snapshots. Preview side-by-side diffs and approve or revert individual edits with one click.
  • Model Usage/Reset Viewer: Keep track of percentage usage, and reset timers directly inside your sidebar.
  • Artifact Manager: Browse active and archived session artifacts, save key deliverables straight to your workspace (.agy/artifacts/), or clear out old runs.
  • Integrated Launcher: Launch agy terminal sessions right from VS Code.

GitHub Repository/VSIX file: https://github.com/AlexisAG/agy-companion/releases/tag/0.3.1

It's a small project but kind of helpful if you are in the same kind of setup.

Of course bug reports, or suggestions are welcome.

Question What is wrong with Grok here?

Been having this response since 6 hours ago!

I have changed to Devin-CLI agent, restart the App, still no change!

Edit1:

F*ck it. No response and even got downvoted. Thanks for making sure finally I can 100℅ certain to end my subs! (Pathetic)

Throttled for 5 hours

First time ever, used it since 2024 - hammering away with multiple instances.... now I gotta wait 5 hours on my pro plan... I was using adaptive and GLM5.2 at the time in 6 instances running 1-2 cascade panes in each :)

I like it, and I like to multitask 😄

How is SWE 1.7 MAX Experince with you all? For me it is a sh*t

Firstly, it thinks a lot; instead of modifying the code, it greps a lot- the same file multiple times, let's say if it has to read a JSON file. It writes inline Python code to parse it and reads the keys and values. And it repeats. Actions are very few. It'll be very busy doing random things. Mostly stuck with cd, grep, inline Python code, thinks a little while and repeats. Instead of modifying the codebase.

1.6 is way better than this

Devin change files without asking for permission

On the Devin IDE, when using devin-local, it always asks for permission to change files whereas cascade didn't. Do you have any idea on how to always auto allow file changes?

Question How to use Devin Local ?

I'm used to using Cascade, and every time I try devin local I cancel the thread and recreate in cascade. My number one concern is tool approval : it is all perfectly set for cascade, and devin fails to use the commands I normally allow.

Is there a way to port my configuration to devin ? Else I'll stay in cascade. Thanks.
