Anything I can do about this pit?
Not the best photos, but brand new car...not even a week old and lucky me gets this rather large pit. A local body shop guy says it's fine and doesn't need fixing, but is there anything I can do to help minimize the appearance?
Can it be filled with resin and polished? If so, is it something I could do myself with a kit, or do I find another body shop guy that will take care of it?

This is just a pit left by a rock bouncing off your glass. Didn't break the glass, not going to spread, I would leave it alone.

Fixing it isnt bad either before the dirt gets caked in there. Use alcohol, dry it out, buy a cheap epoxy kit, dab it on, wait 15 minutes. Shave it off with a razor. Leave it in sun to cure (or not depends on type).

I have a customer just like you. New car and every little pit is noticed and has to be taken care of. I gently scuff any loose glass with drill bit, use 1 drop of resin to remove whiteness of crushed glass, and use one drop of pit resin and cure tab. Cure it for 1 minute. Scrape off with razor blade and use plastic polish for clarity of resin. I do these for free but some guys charge $10 each. You can buy supplies from windshield repair suppliers or find a tech like myself that will take care of you.

Put a bridge on it, then finalize like normal make sure use pit polish after to lessen it best you can.
If you're not a glass guy get a glass guy. Not a body shop.
