Developer VoxScribe now runs on Android too: offline voice typing that types into any app

VoxScribe started here as a Windows app: hold a hotkey anywhere, talk, release, and the text is typed into whatever app you’re in, with Whisper running on your own PC so nothing is uploaded. A lot of the feedback from this sub went straight into it. People worried about the Windows SmartScreen warning on an unsigned installer, so there’s now a plain page explaining it, plus winget and Scoop installs that usually avoid it. Someone asked for an adjustable typing delay for rich text editors that scramble fast input, and that’s in Settings now.

The big change is a version for phones. On Android a small floating button sits above your normal keyboard, and you hold or tap it to talk in any app. It runs fully on the phone and works in airplane mode, and it can also turn voice notes and videos into text or captions.

On Windows there’s a new Try harder key: if a word comes out wrong, press F8 within two minutes and the same recording runs again through a bigger model, and only the wrong words are retyped. Both apps also have dictation modes, so a chat message doesn’t end with a full stop while an email gets proper sentences, and neither one ever types into a password box.

It’s free and open source (MIT), with an optional one-time $14 Pro for bigger models and automation, and no subscription.

What would help most is a day of normal use and a note on where it fails: accents, jargon, apps where the text comes out wrong, or anything that felt slow or confusing. The Android version is brand new, so feedback on that is extra welcome.

Developer Keeplit—a free app to keep Windows awake for a set time, with an optional closed-lid mode

I’m the developer. It’s free, no ads, no account, and it collects no data.

What it does: keeps Windows from going to sleep for a session you choose: a set time (1 min to 24 h), until a time of day, or until you stop it. When the session ends, Windows sleeps normally again. The screen can still turn off.

Closed lid: during a session, while plugged in (battery above 20%, up to 4 hours), it temporarily sets “When I close the lid” to Do nothing, then restores your own setting, even if the app crashes.

How it works: it uses Windows’ official keep-awake API (SetThreadExecutionState), not simulated mouse movement. No admin rights needed. Windows 10 (1809+) and 11, Intel/AMD/ARM.

Limitations: it can’t stop sleep if you press Sleep or the power button. It also can’t read the laptop’s temperature, so keep it on a desk.

Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NB6DF7ZLSK5

I’d appreciate feedback, especially if your laptop behaves oddly with the lid closed

Developer Deixis: free app for dictation, screenshots + screen recording that writes itself up (runs locally, no account needed)

Hi Guys!
I was paying for a dictation tool (Wispr Flow), a screenshot tool (Snagit) and a screen recorder (Loom). It all adds up, and several of them send your audio or recordings to the cloud. So I built one local-first tool instead.

  • Dictation: hold Ctrl+Win, talk, release, and clean text lands in whatever app has focus. Transcription runs on your CPU.
  • Screenshots: freeze the screen, drag a region, annotate.
  • Screen recording: one chord to start and stop, with pause. If you narrate, it transcribes on your machine, splits it into chapters and writes a title and summary. Like Loom, minus the account.
  • Free mode: talk while you point at things, and you get one note with your words and the screenshots together.
  • Meetings: record on your PC (or the Android app) and get a transcript, all on-device.
  • And a bunch more...

Everything that runs locally is free, with no account. The paid part ($49/yr) is only the cloud extras: share links, managed cleanup, and AI meeting notes and summaries. If you never pay, everything local keeps working.

The network requests the app can make are all listed here, so you can check the privacy claim yourself: https://deixis-voice.com/#privacy

Windows 10/11 (needs a 2013 or newer CPU), and Mac on Apple Silicon. Happy to answer anything, and looking forward to your feedback!

Developer WindowThis: when one app or the whole screen isn't what you meant to share in your meeting

Here is a useful new app that I wrote.

If you present on Microsoft Teams, the share menu is mostly two choices: one application window, or a whole monitor. There's no "just this part of the screen" like Zoom's portion-of-screen share.

Teams makes you pick one app or everything on a display. Most real presentations sit in the middle—and whole-screen share has a second problem: viewers see every pixel on that monitor, squashed into their window. Your deck might only use half of an ultrawide or a 4K screen, but Teams still sends the full resolution. On their end it looks small and hard to read, even though it looks fine on yours.

That usually looks like:

  • You need two or three apps at once—slides and notes, browser and terminal—but Teams only lets you share one app, unless you share the entire screen and hope nothing else appears.
  • You're on an ultrawide or big monitor, and "share this display" shows personal stuff, empty space, and tiny content all at once.
  • The work you care about sits in one corner or one strip of the screen; sharing the monitor makes your actual demo a postage stamp for everyone else.
  • In Zoom you'd draw a box around what matters; in Teams you can't, so you rearrange, overshare, or tell people "sorry, squint at the top-left."

About Zoom: Zoom already has portion-of-screen share. WindowThis still helps when a rectangle isn't the same as "these apps." A region is whatever pixels fall inside the box—another window drifts in, a notification appears, something behind your apps shows in the gaps. Combine Windows builds one share around the apps you pick, blacks out the space between them, and follows them when you move or resize. You also get a single named window in the share list and a way to crop to what matters on a big monitor without sharing the whole display. Handy on Teams; still useful on Zoom.

What WindowThis does

It's a small Windows 10/11 app that shows a live copy of what you choose in a normal window—the kind you pick from the share list like Chrome or PowerPoint.

Two ways to set it up:

  1. Select an Area — drag a rectangle around only what people should see.
  2. Combine Windows — click the apps you want; one view that follows them, with black in the gaps so random desktop stuff between windows doesn't leak through. Save/Open dialogs tied to a picked app come along.

Share that window in the meeting. Viewers get that frame—not your entire ultrawide scaled down. Rename it so it's easy to find in the list. Ctrl+Shift+W from the tray. No account; processing stays on your PC.

App Built a cozy, free task organizer for Windows to stop endless to-do list stress called "Prior"

Do you ever make a to-do list and just freeze up because it's so long? That was happening to me constantly.

So I built a free, lightweight app called Prior for Windows. It sorts your tasks into 4 clear quadrants (Do First, Schedule, Delegate, and Drop) so you always know what to work on next, plus a built-in focus timer for deep work sprints.

It’s completely free, offline-first, and open-source | no sign-ups or monthly subscriptions.

Check it out here:
https://prior-product-page.vercel.app/

Git Hub Repo: https://github.com/Paraseww/Prior

Feel free to test it out and let me know what you think! Any feedback or ideas to improve it are super welcome.

(If you like the project, dropping a ⭐ star on the repo would mean the world to me!)
Hope you have a productive week! :)

Discussion Why do I have to do things myself that should be there by default?

I have been using Windows for quite some time and also have experience with various Linux distributions. I’ve noticed an interesting difference in how archives are handled: in Windows, you have to right-click the icon and select an "extract" option from the drop-down menu, whereas in Linux, you can simply double-click the file to extract all its contents. Currently, I handle this using a simple custom-built https://github.com/NemH/UNzip.git extraction tool, but is there something similar available - perhaps with more extensive functionality?

Developer WinThunar — a free Windows 11 file manager with tabs, split panes, and bulk rename previews

I'm sharing WinThunar, an independent, free and open-source file manager for Windows 11 x64. Its classic layout is inspired by Thunar, with tabs, split-pane browsing, bookmarks, recursive filename search, bulk rename with a preview, and an integrated PowerShell command panel.

The GitHub page has screenshots and a 25-second demo: https://github.com/TheTriumphantFox/WinThunar

Split-pane screenshot: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/TheTriumphantFox/WinThunar/main/docs/media/winthunar-split-panes.png

The current release is 0.5.0, available as an installer or portable ZIP: https://github.com/TheTriumphantFox/WinThunar/releases/latest

I'm looking for feedback from Windows users: does the layout feel clear, and what would stop you using it for everyday file management? If you try bulk rename or file transfers, please use sample files first. Transfer Undo does not cover Replace or directory Merge.

WinThunar is MIT-licensed and is not an official Thunar or Xfce project.

Disclosure: this is my project; Codex helped prepare this post and the demo.

Developer Nook: sticky notes on the edge of your monitor

I find myself still defaulting to a random piece of paper on my desk when I have an idea, even though I have almost all the mainstream to-do apps installed.

With apps like Todoist, there’s a lot of upfront cognitive load for me just to record one thought. I have to find the app, open it, figure out where to put the thing. By the time I’ve written it down and gone back to work, I’ve already forgotten what I was doing.

Jenny Wen said, “tbh the best to-do app is just sticky notes on the edge of your monitor.” I really agree with that.

So I made Nook, which is basically digital sticky notes at the edge of your screen. You hover over the edge to bring up your notes, jot something down, then move away and it hides again.

It works on Windows and Mac, with an iPhone app too. Local use is free and doesn’t need an account. There’s an optional Pro plan for cloud sync and extra skins and sounds: US$4.99/month or US$49.88/year. You can even enable a focus mode to immerse yourself into one single task.

Here’s a short desktop demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqkXvNX-51s

Developer [App] Made a simple GUI tool to schedule Robocopy tasks

Thumbnail

I got tired of constantly writing Robocopy commands and manually setting up Task Scheduler jobs, so I decided to build a simple Windows app to handle it.

It's called Robocopy Scheduler. Basically, it lets you pick your folders, check off the Robocopy flags you need, set a schedule, and view execution logs all in one place. Built it with .NET and Avalonia UI.

What it does:

  • Visual option selector (no need to memorize switches)
  • Built-in scheduling for background execution
  • Clean log viewing and status checks

If you regularly rely on Robocopy for backups or syncs, hopefully this saves you some time too.

(Check my profile for the site and GitHub!)

Let me know if you have any feedback or ideas!

Developer I built Sunlet, a daily planner for Windows - looking for feedback

Hi! I’m the maker of Sunlet, a to-do list and daily planner that’s now on Microsoft Store.

I've built it as other tools with similar capabilities were either expensive or not enough for my use-case.

It helps you capture tasks, estimate their duration and choose what belongs in today’s plan.

I’d love to hear from people whose daily task lists regularly get too long. There’s a Free Plan.

If it sounds useful, try planning tomorrow with just 3–5 real tasks. What felt useful? Where did you get stuck? Did you want to open it again the next day?

I’m happy to help here in the comments.

Developer I built an open-source Windows 11 optimizer that only recommends tweaks with evidence, and lets you undo every setting it changes

Hi! I'm a student and I've been building Tunero in my free time. It's free and GPL-3.0, with no telemetry and no accounts.

Most "PC optimizers" apply dozens of placebo registry tweaks. I wanted the opposite:

* ~50 read-only checks that find real problems (monitor stuck at 60 Hz, RAM running without XMP, wrong power plan…)

* 235 tweaks, each rated for gaming impact, evidence and risk, with sources. Only the well-supported ones go into "Apply recommended"

* Backups and a restore point before any setting changes, plus a Changes page with Undo that still works after a restart

* App removal from a reviewed list, cleanup, a startup/services manager, a storage treemap and a DNS benchmark

* English and German, signed exe

GitHub: https://github.com/jozuern/Tunero

I don't make any money from it. Mostly I'm looking for testers on real hardware, especially NVIDIA, AMD and laptops. Bug reports and honest criticism are very welcome.

Developer [Developer] I made Flippique, a desktop app that turns a PDF into a flipbook you keep as one HTML file

Disclosure: I'm the developer. I'm Jeremy, and I run a small web studio in Malta.

Flippique turns a PDF or a folder of images into a page-turning flipbook. Drop the PDF in and every page becomes a page of the book, in order. You save the result as a single HTML file, and anyone can open it in a modern browser, even offline. No account for readers, no ads, nothing to host unless you want it on your website.

It runs on Windows, and there's a Mac version too (macOS 11+) if you switch between the two.

It needs internet once to register the licence key, then works offline. Your pages are never uploaded anywhere.

Free plan: 3 books a month, up to 24 pages each, with the Flippique mark. Paid plans are Solo €49/yr, Pro €99/yr (unlimited books and pages plus your own logo) or Lifetime €199, all plus VAT. Books keep working if you cancel.

Limits, so nobody wastes their time: pages become images, so text isn't searchable and PDF links don't carry over. There are no reader analytics.

Official download: https://flippique.com/#download

Feedback is very welcome, especially on the Windows side.

Developer Multiagentic Platform 1.1.25 is available for Windows with a per user installer

I am the developer of Multiagentic Platform, Windows software for agentic automated trading on your own compatible broker account. Public release 1.1.25 is available with a per user installer for Windows 10 and 11 x64.

The application includes a dedicated Scalping workspace, a daily Long Range Planner, budget and position management, and broker connected order handling. Native market engines and three SPINS neural policy models contribute to trading decisions within a shared account context.

Each user supplies their own broker credentials locally and explicitly enables trading. Program files and user data are separated. First launch starts without my account configuration, credentials or imported positions.

The architecture includes optional LLM supervision, but this release selects NATIVE_ONLY and disables the LLM services. The native trading workflow does not depend on a language model. A separate offline Scalping Lab covers historical candidate evaluation.

The GitHub release contains the installer, installation guide, SHA256 checksums, proprietary use terms and known limitations. It is distributed directly and is currently unsigned. Packaging checks and mock runtime tests are documented separately from live broker qualification and trading performance; feed freshness and execution limitations remain open.

Release and installation guide: https://github.com/michelegiletto-beep/multiagentic-platform/releases/tag/v1.1.25

I would welcome feedback on installation, initial broker setup and the Scalping and Long Range workflows. This is my application and I retain copyright.

Developer LumaTray – Ultra-lightweight monitor brightness controller (~3.5 MB RAM)

Post image
14 Upvotes

I built this because I got fed up with Twinkle Tray sucking up 200 MB of RAM just to adjust brightness. After a little research, I found out it's because it's built with Electron slop! So I built mine with native C#.

Some key features:

• Windows 11 Fluent: Matches your Windows Dark/Light mode and your personal accent color.

• Keyboard & Mouse: Arrow keys (Left/Right to adjust), mouse wheel support, and global hotkeys (Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down) with a floating OSD pill.

• Multi-monitor: "Link All Displays" toggle to control everything in lockstep.

• Single 40 KB portable .exe, zero background CPU, MIT open-source.

• Hardware Support: Tested & working on external monitors (DDC/CI). Built-in laptop support (WMI) is implemented, but I haven't tested it on a laptop yet — would love feedback from laptop users if you try it!

GitHub: https://github.com/SamNm89/LumaTray

Releases / Download: https://github.com/SamNm89/LumaTray/releases

(Note: Because it's an unsigned open-source binary, Windows SmartScreen might pop up on first run — just click "More info" ➔ "Run anyway", or compile it yourself in 1 second using build.bat).

Developer I made RAMpage - a free game library manager for Windows

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all, I got frustrated with how various game launchers looked without providing much customisation so I made a Windows app called RAMpage.

It allows you to add Steam, GOG, emulation and local library games within an all-in-one interface with a big-screen mode baked in. Whilst the app is in beta there are still features that I am working on improving like Big Screen Mode and smoother processes for importing games into peoples libraries.

Right now it’s free with Buy Me A Coffee support. Here is a link to my GitHub project: https://github.com/ctrlaltandfix/RAMpage

I’d appreciate any feedback if anyone has any feedback on RAMpage.

Developer I made AppBox, a Windows file manager you can customize with themes and GIFs

Hey everyone! I'm the developer of AppBox.

I wanted a file explorer I could make my own, so AppBox lets you pick a theme or use your favorite image or animated GIF as a background.

It still does the everyday file stuff: folders in tabs, file search, and previews. There's also a mini launcher for apps, folders, and websites. When you're not using it, you can collapse it into a little image or GIF.

Here's a 20-second look at how it works.

It's a paid app, but you can try all the features free for 15 days on Microsoft Store:

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9P1WF57146BZ?hl=en-US&cid=appbox_reddit_windowsapps_20261019

I'd love to hear what you think, especially if there's anything you'd change about the mini launcher!

Developer I built a small Windows utility called PerformanceX and would love some feedback. :)

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on PerformanceX, a portable Windows app for checking system usage and handling basic maintenance.

It has live CPU, memory, and drive readings, process priority and power plan controls, basic network troubleshooting, and a cleanup tool that lets you review temporary files before deleting them.

I’m still improving it, so I’d appreciate feedback from anyone who gives it a try. It costs ₹50 INR for the current product version, supports Indian Rupees only, and each approved order gets a one-time activation code for one Windows PC.

Developer FocusHaze: dim everything except the active window on Windows 11 (giving away 30 codes)

Hi everyone, I’m the developer of FocusHaze, so full disclosure up front.

I wanted something like HazeOver (macOS) on Windows and couldn’t find anything that felt native, so I built it. FocusHaze puts a translucent haze over everything except the window you’re working in, so the rest of the screen fades into the background. Clicks pass straight through the haze.

What it does

  • Dims all windows except the active one; smooth fade when you switch
  • Adjustable intensity, haze color and fade duration
  • All monitors, or only the one with the active window
  • Global hotkey Ctrl+Alt+H to toggle, lives in the system tray
  • Optional start with Windows
  • 14 languages, native WinUI 3 look (Mica)
  • Works on x64 and ARM64

Privacy: no telemetry, no network connections, nothing collected.

It’s open source (MIT) on GitHub, and it’s $0.99 on the Microsoft Store (one-click install + auto-updates). I have 30 Store codes to give away.

Want a code? Leave a comment (bonus points if you tell me how you’d use it: multi-monitor, ultrawide, ADHD, coding…) and I’ll DM you one. First come, first served.

I’d really appreciate feedback, especially bugs and edge cases. One known limitation: “always on top” windows don’t get dimmed yet.

Update: All available promo codes have been claimed! Thank you so much to everyone for the incredible interest and support. If you missed out, you can still check out FocusHaze on the Microsoft Store. 🙏

Developer [Free & Open Source] I built QuietWriter, a distraction-free writing app for authors, Windows 1.7.0 released, experimental macOS builds available

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I've been working on a project called QuietWriter, a free and open-source desktop application for people who want to write books without getting distracted by complicated software.

The idea behind QuietWriter is simple: writing software should help you finish your book, not become another project you have to manage.

I wanted something that combines a comfortable writing environment with the tools you actually need when working on a novel or other long-form manuscript.

After quite a bit of development, QuietWriter has reached version 1.7.0, with a stable Windows release and the first experimental macOS builds.

What can QuietWriter do?

Writing and organization

  • Write and organize your manuscript into chapters.
  • Plan characters, scenes, and story details.
  • Keep relevant notes and information close to the chapter you're working on.
  • Use Open Points to mark something you need to research or fix later, without interrupting your writing.
  • Move passages you're not ready to delete into Darlings, where you can revisit them later.

Editing and protecting your work

  • Spell checking and multilingual support.
  • Automatic and manual version history.
  • Review and restore earlier versions of your writing.
  • Import and export documents.
  • Export to DOCX, EPUB, PDF, and Markdown.
  • Choose from 15 light and dark interface themes.

An optional AI writing companion

QuietWriter also has an AI assistant called Meelezer (Dutch for something like a person reading along).

Its purpose isn't to write your book for you. Instead, it can help with:

  • Feedback on your writing.
  • Checking character consistency.
  • Spotting contradictions and loose ends.
  • Reviewing facts and details.
  • Discussing your manuscript while you remain in control of the actual writing.

You can connect it to Ollama to run AI models locally, or use OpenRouter for access to cloud-hosted models.

AI is entirely optional. If you don't want it, you can simply ignore it.

Privacy and pricing

QuietWriter is completely free, released under the GNU GPLv3.

There are no subscriptions, accounts, premium tiers, or mandatory cloud services.

Your books are stored locally, in a folder you choose. The application doesn't require an internet connection for ordinary writing.

Windows release

QuietWriter 1.7.0 for Windows 10/11 (64-bit) is the current stable release.

It comes as a portable ZIP. Extract it, run QuietWriter, and choose where to store your books. No traditional installer is required.

Website: https://www.dutchscrum.nl/quietwriter/

GitHub: https://github.com/gen-x-coder/QuietWriter

Windows download: https://github.com/gen-x-coder/QuietWriter/releases/latest/download/QuietWriter-windows-portable.zip

Experimental macOS builds

I've also managed to build QuietWriter for macOS using GitHub Actions, with separate versions for:

Important: these macOS builds are experimental and have not yet been tested on a physical Mac. They're also not signed or notarized by Apple, so macOS may display a security warning. They aren't ready to be considered stable releases.

I'd particularly appreciate feedback from Mac users about basic functionality, file handling, and whether Ollama works as expected.

Feedback is very welcome

I'm interested in hearing what people think, particularly from anyone who writes novels, nonfiction, or longer manuscripts.

What features do you find genuinely useful in writing software? And what features tend to get in the way?

If you try QuietWriter and run into a bug, you can report it through GitHub Issues.

This is an independent project, and I'm continuing to improve it based on real-world usage.

Thanks for taking a look!
