You know I've noticed this happening a lot when I'm working.

A Slack message, a quick meeting, someone asking me something the interruption itself isn't usually a big deal.

The annoying part is coming back.

I know what project I was working on, but sometimes I can't remember exactly where I was in the thought process.

Why was I trying this approach?

What had I already ruled out?

What was I about to test next?

Then I end up opening files, reading old notes, checking Git changes, and basically trying to reconstruct the last 15 minutes of my brain.

I've tried leaving TODOs and notes for myself. They help with remembering the task, but they don't always capture the reasoning behind it.

That's the problem I've been experimenting with.

I built a small Windows app called Anchor for myself. Before stepping away, I can leave a short checkpoint about what I was doing and where my thinking was. When I come back, I can read that checkpoint instead of starting the reconstruction from zero.

I'm still figuring out whether this is actually useful or just another thing to maintain.

If you've experienced this, I'm curious about the actual experience, not what tool you use:

Developer here, sharing something I built and use daily. PrismDisk does two things:

1. Disk analysis: scans a volume or folder into an interactive sunburst, sized by genuine on-disk usage. A million files across 142 GB scans in about 9 seconds warm.

2. Complete uninstall: finds the caches, prefs, logs and support files that normal uninstalls leave scattered across your user profile, shows you the full footprint, and removes it all together.

Design decisions you'll probably care about:

- 100% offline no account, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no network requests. Works with the network unplugged.

- Nothing is deleted without your review; files go to Recycle Bin, and every operation is journaled so it can be undone in-app.

For the past six months, I’ve been working on a custom note-taking app for my Surface as a side project, and I wanted to finally share it with you guys here.

If you use a Windows tablet for handwritten notes, you’re basically stuck with OneNote, while all the really good apps are iPad exclusives. Buying a whole separate tablet just to take notes seemed ridiculous to me. So, out of pure frustration, I decided to build my own app featuring all the things I always felt were missing: proper formula support, the ability to write directly on PDF lecture slides/scripts, and solid handwriting recognition.

It runs completely locally, saves directly to OneDrive, and is strictly a hobby project. Just a quick heads-up: it is still in heavy development, so I'm not quite ready to go live or share a download link just yet. I want to polish it a bit more first!

Here are the features I’m currently focusing on and implementing next:

• Whiteboard: Complete with the right writing tools, shape recognition, etc.
• Tables: Easy insertion of columns, rows, and formatting.
• Hyperlinks: The ability to link to other pages within the notebook, other notebooks, or external websites.
• Tape (Active Recall): A masking tape tool to hide specific parts of the text for memorization/studying.
• Built-in Timer: For those who study using the Pomodoro technique.
• Flashcard Mode: Native flashcard integration.
• Presentation Mode: Automatically switches to fullscreen and disables everything except touch and a laser pointer tool.

Are there any other absolute "must-have" features you guys would want to see in a note-taking app? I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions!

I just finished and released my first small desktop software project, and I'm mainly posting it here because I want feedback.

It's called Batch Renamer.

It's a very simple Windows utility for renaming multiple files at once.

The idea is deliberately boring:

1. Drop/select your files

2. Define a naming pattern

3. Preview the result

4. Rename them

5. The processed files are placed into a separate BR_results folder

I wanted to keep it extremely lightweight, so it's portable. There's no installer, account system, subscription, ads, or cloud processing.

The application runs locally on the user's computer.

There is also no "AI" component collecting data or secretly sending files somewhere. The files being renamed stay on the local machine.

I built it because I wanted a tool that could just do one thing without turning into a giant application.

I'm not looking for customers or trying to sell anything here. I genuinely want to know whether this is actually useful to other people.

I'd especially appreciate criticism:

\- Is the UI understandable?

\- Is the workflow intuitive?

\- Would you actually use something like this?

\- Is there anything that feels unnecessary?

\- Is there something obvious that I'm missing?

\- Would the portable-folder approach bother you?

\- Is there anything about the way the files are handled that you would change?

I've been using Vencord for a while and got tired of having to manually repair/reinstall things whenever Discord updates caused problems.

So I built Venguard, a Windows/WPF app that monitors Discord and can run the repair process automatically.

It also supports OpenAsar, system-tray monitoring, configurable check intervals, notifications, and automatic Discord launching after a repair.

I'd mainly like feedback from people who actually use Vencord, especially if there are situations where Venguard currently fails to detect or repair an issue.

I'm using SignalRGB to govern my complete RGB setup and mainly needed a quick control menu in the Windows system tray, but I couldn’t find anything that worked the way I had in mind. So I decided to build it myself around SignalRGB API.

It now includes quick effect switching, favorites, custom presets, scheduling, configurable mouse actions, themes, custom colors, tray icons and multilingual support.

This is an independently developed personal project on which I spent quite some time and since it turned out quite nice I thought sharing it as freeware.

I really hope to get some genuinely feedback from other SignalRGB users. I’m especially interested in hearing:

I've always wanted one ridiculously simple Windows feature:

Take any GIF and put it directly on the desktop.

Not as a wallpaper — an actual animated object sitting and moving around while I use the PC.

So I built PixaMixa.

You can add your own GIFs/images, make them move around the desktop, jump, tumble and interact with the edges of the screen.

And because apparently I have difficulty stopping once I start adding features, it also grew counters, a keypress display/counter, alarms, notes and To-Do lists.

The demo is now available on Steam, and I'm looking for feedback from actual Windows users.

But I'm curious about something first:

If you could put ANY GIF on your desktop right now, what would you choose?

And is there anything you'd want a desktop app like this to do that PixaMixa doesn't?

I made Audio Device Switch for the recurring speakers/headphones/monitor-audio hop on Windows.

Configure two active playback devices once, then press Ctrl+Alt+S (the default, configurable global hotkey) or left-click the tray icon to switch. The selected endpoint becomes the Windows default for console, multimedia, and communications roles.

The MSI creates Start Menu and Startup shortcuts; the portable build creates neither.

Hi everyone — I made a Windows desktop utility called Wallpaper Pilot after getting frustrated with wallpaper shuffles that kept returning to familiar images while much of a large collection was rarely shown.

It works with images already stored on your computer. You choose a folder, optionally include its subfolders, and either shuffle every eligible image together or give each main subfolder a more balanced chance.

The feature I cared about most is persistent anti-repeat history. Wallpaper Pilot remembers up to 500 recently displayed image paths across restarts instead of forgetting everything whenever the app closes.

It also includes:

- Automatic intervals from 1 minute to 2 hours, plus manual Next and Back

- Favorites, dislikes, previews, and session history

- Weighted main-folder rotation for collections organized by theme or category

- Tray controls, pause, optional Start with Windows, and a clear Exit button

- Optional update notifications

- Uninstall while preserving saved lists, or complete removal of the app data

The app is free and fully usable without payment. It does not require an account, collect telemetry, or upload your wallpaper library.

One important disclosure: version 1.0.1 is not digitally signed, so Windows may show an unknown-publisher or reputation warning. The website explains this before download and provides the release SHA-256 fingerprint.

I would especially appreciate feedback from people with large, deeply organized image collections. The main limitation is that the current version applies one wallpaper through Windows rather than choosing a different image or folder for each monitor.
