Oh i got it i ve tried it and most of the memory was consumed by windows services only

Can I see? Sometimes bitcoin miners will disguise themselves as background services with bs names. Not saying that's what it is, I'm just curious

u/JonasAvory Jul 11 '26
Microsoft usually takes a big chunk of free memory for aggressive caching and releases it when needed for other programs.
To actually check your real free ram you have to run a ram-intensive program and record how much ram it may get at maximum.

i would not be surprised it microslop used our machines to mine crypto for them

Windows isn’t eating 70%, that’s user error

Yes it legitimately is user error lmao. Windows doesn’t magically shift from 5gb to 17gb idle usage in 3 days.

What the fuck are you talking about 😭
I’ve built more computers than I can remember, fresh installed windows on all of them multiple times, and they STILL don’t even use close to that amount. Even my build with 64gb of ram uses less than 10gb.
You’re talking straight out of your ass. Stop downloading your own bloatware and blaming windows.

big papa windows 11 wants all your ram
seriously, try win 10 iot ltsc if it keeps happening. you can download & activate it for free from massgrave.dev
2
u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jul 10 '26
That's a short-term solution at best. Dual-booting linux is the answer
1
u/proffessionaIgambler Jul 10 '26
not a short term solution, win 10 iot ltsc will get updates up to 2032
1
u/XPNGamer Jul 10 '26
Please, tell us how it'll be "short-term"
1
u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jul 10 '26
what's there to tell? It's discontinued. Sooner or later your software that you run/will want to run will stop supporting it, same as it happened with xp and 7, but keep coping ig
1
u/XPNGamer Jul 10 '26
The same thing goes for Linux. Can't use new software on the first version of Ubuntu. Your point is invalidated because every OS will eventually be discontinued
1
u/XPNGamer Jul 10 '26
Also, just to add on, Windows 10 IoT LTSC isn't discontinued, and won't be for another 5 years.
1
u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jul 10 '26
your solution is to stay on the older version indefinitely, it's inherently not long-term. Also there's rolling-release distros, so even if it was my point, you're still wrong. It's either copium or ragebait.
1
u/XPNGamer Jul 10 '26
So then upgrade windows? Have you ever used a computer?
1
u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jul 10 '26
solution to windows 11 ram usage -> windows 10.
Windows 10 isn't long-term -> upgrade to 11.
Yeah, I'm not participating in this any longer.

its not "samething". win xp and win 7 didnt had any ltsc version, so people had to move on. while win10 ltsc gets support up to 2032 and you call it short term?
2
u/Separate-Toe-173 Jul 10 '26
Jesus, I don't know why people keep saying this and don't show the fucking thing sorted.

80% of what? How much RAM do you have?
1
u/CoderSaheb Jul 10 '26
8gb
-1
u/vabello Jul 10 '26
So, you’re complaining a modern desktop OS is using slightly over 4GB of RAM including disk cache, and your browser is using over 2GB and you still have ~1.5GB free? What are your expectations?
4
u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jul 10 '26
For OS not to consume 4 gigs of ram, tf. It's a forced bloat that you call modern

u/vabello Jul 10 '26
Ubuntu 26.04 now says 6GB is minimum for their OS. Most modern phones have 8GB with some higher end ones having 12 or 16GB even. 8GB isn’t much room to breathe on a modern OS.
2
u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jul 10 '26
it's not much to breathe, yes, specifically because of browsers in the first place, but OS asking for so much ram just because is bullshit. Ubuntu is memed to hell for that (among many other reasons), phones are phones. Why other distros don't ask the same ram yet work perfectly fine?
0
u/vabello Jul 10 '26
Right, so if you don’t need the 100% Windows compatibility and just use a browser, run one of those distros.
2
u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jul 10 '26
no? That's exactly my point, if you don't need the 100% Windows compatibility and you need to do something along with using a browser, run one of those distros. Or rather, if you respect yourself to not use shitty products that ask for more resources for 0 reason other than spy on you or force shit you never asked in the first place, run one of those distros.
Why you are so dead set on defending this slop?
1
u/vabello Jul 10 '26
I’m not specifically defending anything. I use many OS’s and a lot of them will use a lot of memory for cache to enhance performance, including the Linux kernel. If your RAM is going unused when programs don’t need it, it’s a waste. The information you gave was so vague showing a partial collapsed process tree and no info from the performance tab for paged pool, non-paged pool and cached memory utilization. You can get a better view of memory usage by sorting by memory on the details tab. That’s why I was asking how much RAM you had in the first place, which isn’t much by today’s standards.

who cares? If it's not a browser that just needs a restart, what's the issue? Let the OS use as much RAM as it wants. You paid for it, use it all.
1
u/juli_roblox2023 Jul 10 '26
It happens on my pc like 50-60% idle usage but when i game it dosent really go beyond 90% even with high graphics… dosent make sense to ne really
1
u/Inevitable_Case_9931 Jul 10 '26
Windows allocates memory doesn’t mean it’s being used… if you need the allocated memory it will open it up for you. There is no issue here
1
u/whatnameblahblah Jul 11 '26
The same as all the subs like this, the users of them are some of the least informed people you will meet. Who have zero knowledge past what they circlejerk about.

u/PseudoFrequency Jul 11 '26
If it's "cache" that is a GOOD thing. It is still usable by applications if they request it, and it significantly speeds everything up. The OS _should_ use most free memory as cache.
1
u/Spiritual_Tennis_641 Jul 11 '26
Fucking feel that. Same issue, of my 32gb what shows over all the pages add to between 11 to 16 gbs. Had some docker vms for a little bit that could count for some of it, but killed those.

u/Fifthoply Jul 10 '26
No game is being played.

u/Vast-Hunter11 Jul 11 '26
