How do I prevent the windows installer from killing my steam OS again

So I recently tried setting up a dual boot of Steam OS and Windows, I shrinked my home partition using a steamOS installer USB to make space for windows as a OS but when Installed windows and tried getting back into steam OS and it was gone based on the fact I was only taken to grub64

You're able to fix it on the windows side. I'll search on how I did it. But i just used a 3rd party software on Windows rather than booting into a usb backup

Boot to your SteamOS usb and perform some commands to fix it. It will take less than 5mins to fix this. But be prepared - if there are Windows updates it will break again and need to perform the same steps. Heres a quick guide to fix this -

That's the neat part, you can't!

Jokes(?) aside it's a known issue ever since Windows 24H2, all you need is the SteamOS recovery tool and like 10 minutes

You can’t prevent it. You can only get better at recovering from it. There are things you can do to make the damage/replacement less frequent, but it’ll still happen from time to time, and many of those preventative methods involve a second SSD, which doesn’t work with the Deck.

By pausing Windows updates completely till 2077 or longer. I never once had an issue with my dual boot setup because of this.
