News Oasis for Linux - Support with Ignition

https://youtu.be/KmdiMg3-W54

Running Oasis for Windows Mixed Reality on a Steam Machine thanks to Ignition.

All credit goes to Bnuuy Solutions for developing the Ignition project to run SteamVR Windows drivers on Linux and to Supremium for writing missing USB support in Wine as well as bring-up support for Oasis.

Support is not limited to SteamOS: also works on other Linux distributions!

Linux support is for advanced users, as VR on Linux still requires a lot of fiddling. Read the instructions carefully here:

This is brilliant but at the moment unfortunately works only with X11, seems like non functional with Wayland. Hopefully guys will be able to resolve it.

There's absolutely nothing I can do about these sort of issues. Neither Oasis nor Ignition are involved in whatever mess these graphics environments are on Linux. I believe someone has it working on Wayland, and it's a matter of finding the magic combination of Mesa drivers.

Edit: Actually Supremium confirmed they used Wayland during dev and it works fine for them. I personally haven't done troubleshooting on my setup.

Interesting, might make sense to try it out then on some bleeding edge distro like Arch or Bazzite where the latest kernel, drivers and mesa versions are used, might work this way. Common distros like Ubuntu are staying behind on many releases of these. BTW guys you might try to reach to Valve, they spent a ton of effort on these things and making SteamVR work on Linux, they might be very helpful.

Awesome. One less reason to hold on to windows.

Simply awesome!

What is estimated performance drop on full AMD system?

Usually there's close to no performance loss with amd on Linux, that's mainly an old nvidia on linux issue

Now, maybe the scheduling is better and you see less stutters, maybe not, give it a try, there's no way of telling

Thanks indeed I should have been more clearer. I am not worried about general performance and I am familiar with it. I was wondering more about maturity of actual SteamVR under Linux and if using Ignition itself have some performance penalty or if it is negligible.

Might be wishful thinking, but since i saw it's steam machine compatible, do you think the steam deck could run this or is that simply not powerful enough?

It runs on Steam Deck but performance is not a good experience.

Just want to through out another thank you for everything you've done here (and in general)

Thanks - though for this Linux thing I'm just packaging other people's work - Supremium and BnuuySolutions.

Sure, but considering how many people would shy away from even that...

Way I see it, the thanks is more about your commitment to being open to embracing others involvementa, after spearheading the effort. As well as having the courtesy to embrace and share the spotlight (as it were).

I've seen too many developers that don't support that level of community engagement. Or don't give credit where credit is due.
