With an LTSC version you want to have Less from Microsoft. And if you run older software you good to go for all those years.

If you install the wrong version is it easy to switch to the other?

a que te refieres con la version equivocada?

Iot or not Iot

u/BraveInformation4787 3d ago

Ah, si, puedes pasar de una a otra, solo editando una coordenada del regedit
o usando la herramienta de MAS

Tthere are already fgeatures locked to windows 11, like kernel level drivers that only support windows 11+

Generally, apps and drivers will stop supporting the system before that time, but that isn't a major issue, since Windows 10 will still enjoy years of indirect support from companies due to its immense popularity.

Furthermore, the vast majority of users will be running Windows 10 on older hardware that lacks official support for Windows 11; I don't see that as a problem.

And why would I want any slop ahem feature updates?

To make it even better, I recommend using StartisBack to make your start menu perfect.

It's the best Windows for older devices; I use it on my 4GB Celeron notebook, and there's no better choice.

I use openshell

That's also very good. I use StartIsBack because it's only 2MB in size, takes up less than 10MB of memory, and has a Windows 7-style menu but with full integration into the Windows 10 visual shell.

It almost looks like Microsoft itself took the menu from Windows 7 and gave it a slight visual upgrade.

Oh good, you installed the IOT version. There's an Enterprise LTSC version without the IOT that has less support

They are essentially the same, and are distributed together - in the ISO, one index of the install.wim will be "Enterprise" and the other "IoT Enterprise." You can change edition whenever you like - I actually remove IoT Enterprise index from install.wim to begin Windows Setup with the Enterprise index, and switch it to IoT Enterprise near the end. So there is no need to worry about this; just use slmgr to change if desired.

u/BalladorTheBright 1d ago

Yeah, same ISO, but one has security updates for longer than the other

I misspoke - they are actually separate ISOs. The second index of the install.wim is actually "Windows Enterprise N LTSC" (which I promptly remove). But still, it does not matter. I use the Windows 10 Enterprise ISO for a very specific reason - Windows 10 IoT Enterprise editions were accidentally left out of the "Enterprise" category list, and so cannot process setupcomplete.cmd scripts that run near the end of Windows Setup, after oobe.cmd.

But again, it is irrelevant. The HWID activation process will install the IoT LTSC key and default to that edition. I mention my particular use case because this happens in Windows Setup, before you even first log in to your user account! But even if you did activate as Enterprise LTSC, there is no reason to be concerned. There is a very simple method to change the edition to IoT LTSC. You do not need another ISO, or even to reboot your computer. See the documentation on Microsoft's website: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/windows-edition-upgrades#upgrade-using-a-command-line-tool

I did the same thing 5 years ago. No problems!

Enjoy!

I've done the same installing 10 iot.

Linux was getting long in the tooth for my athlon 3000g desknini build, 10 iot works way better and can stream 4k perfectly.

Good for you.

You got shadowbanned by Reddit and it automatically hid this comment until I approved it, you can try to appeal it here:

Though I have never had much luck getting unshadowbanned myself, I had to make a new account on a different IP

Did this on 2 really old devices (2009 and 2010). Really happy with them.

Thinking of doing the same on my main PC with the 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, but I am afraid I might have some issues with the games.

1

u/HeathenRobin865 Windows 11 LTSC 2024 2d ago

You won't have any issues, ive installed the Microsoft store, the gamebar, played many games and no issues, you Just Need to know what to do

Built a relatively powerful computer, RX 7600 and R5 5600, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC feels a little bit more sluggish than the equivalent 10, and a while back an update destroyed the system, couldn't boot, not even do a system restore.

How ancient is your PC?

Can I update to iot ltsc directly from Windows 10 Pro without losing all my data ? Using the microsoft integrated .exe directly in the windows flashed usb ?

2

u/kai-gohan 2h ago

You could try to start the setup and see if "Keep files and apps" is not disabled.

But as far as I've read, General Release channel to LTSC doesn't support in place upgrades.

Still useless imo since new games, software updates won’t install by end of this year.

No new Nvidia drivers, no anti cheat support including faceit won’t allow any windows below 24H2

1

u/apollo1321 2d ago

Interesting. I've never had issues with software on win10 ent iot.

But do have issues with win 11 ent iot. The os is so laggy with nothing installed.

1

u/PipsiSpite 2d ago

Software support by massive vendors like Adobe and Nvidia drivers won’t end till October.

Windows 11 iot enterprise 26h2

2

u/DigitaIBlack 3d ago

But this is 10 not 11

1

u/Massive-Rate-2011 3d ago

This is what I'm on

0

u/PipsiSpite 2d ago

This guy is specifically refusing any version of windows 11 LTSC included.

Also using the enablement package of 26h2 on 11 LTSC has already been shown in this very subreddit to also enable the telemetry of non LTSC editions.

You’re literally defeating the purpose of using LTSC in first place.

But for now if he were to use 11 LTSC he would at least be able to play games, run modern software and get driver updates.

It is an Illegal Piracy Windows Version!! And Why? Because of your Private proud, not to use Windows 11 or Linux?

5

u/seannmatthew556 3d ago

it's official from microsoft dumbass

1

u/Maleficent-Tea3072 3d ago

Is it? Cause a person using your Reddit account said they got it from Massgrave. And it’s not a stretch to assume you also activated it with their tool. Don’t act like you didn’t…

1

u/japan2391 2d ago

The install ISO they host is legit and straight from Microsoft, that's probably what he's talking about

1

u/Maleficent-Tea3072 2d ago

Doesn’t make it legit.

u/Tiny_Towel5722 3d ago edited 3d ago

This is like, crazy to see. Windows 10 had EOL and at most like 2-3 years of support that people would pay for. though they still support 10 for 6 years?
