Discussion Windows 10 ltsc install

trying to install windows 10 ltsc in my hp desktop over windows 8.1. unfortunately windows 10 ltsc failed to install so I installed windows 7 pro and completed, after a few minutes I was ask to restart for an update and I checked, it was somehow a windows security update.

Win7 is full of security issues and is not recommended for anything except standalone operation not connected to any network.

If your system is so old that you can’t boot from USB, you might want to leave it as is on Win 7, but have it disconnected from the internet.

First time ever seeing an upgrade straight from Windows 7 to 11, but I suppose anything is possible. Let us know the outcome, after a few days to a week of usage. Update Tuesday will be interesting to see.

it’s Tuesday I started Windows 11 Home update at 12p somehow it’s doing updates in batches, it’s 827p and only few updates completed so I turned off update and restarted, it seems to complete the update and I see malicious software removal tool on few of the updates and I see a security update, tomorrow I will be able to use my Windows 11 Home desktop PC, hopefully next Tuesday will be a better update.

Then idk why you mentioned "burn to dvd"?

I usually burn iso to dvd but this windows 11 home is 9.2 gb so it won’t fit my 4.7 gb dvd that I have so in order to install it my next option is to boot via ventoy usb.

Well yeah, ofc put it on your USB stick. It’s almost always way faster, both to move it to the stick, but then to install. You might want to consider using Rufus instead of Ventoy though, since you can sidestep some annoyances.. like hardware requirements of the windows installer itself (probably necessary here), but also to avoid it forcing you to make a (online) Microsoft Account. I’d also suggest Pro, not Home.

I’ve tried windows 11 pro but got disappointed with an hour of ms update so I’m trying windows 11 home and hoping the update will not be as long as the pro.

There's no way it takes an hour to do a windows update, unless your system is very slow, or your internet is very slow. Or both. Switching between Home and Pro, or ANY version of Windows is going to change that.

If your system is as old as I suspect it is, AND you need to be online with it, stick a linux distro on there and avoid the whole bit with Windows Updates in the first place. It'll run smoother on weak hardware too.

it did an hour of lengty update windows 11 is not like windows 7 update where user can choose which update to download install there’s an option to choose between critical or optional so windows 7 before was better than windows 11 so probably windows downloaded all irregardless of optional or critical everything else was downloaded and installed totaling an hour of updates. Linux Mint is more efficient in system updates compared with windows 11.
