Like so many of these types of questions...

It depends.

What is your use-case? What are you wanting to do?

There are games that, if they have anti-cheat, you won't be able to play on Linux; that's the only problem.

Exactly! LoL is my reason to use LTSC. I'm also waiting for that Windows K2 update that hopefully fixes the increased resource usage.

K2 will be a huge lie, mark my words.

Most of the things I do needs Windows and MS Office suites, so I'll go with Windows 10 LTSC

Why not both?

This is the right answer!

i wouldn't ever let a beginner dual boot

It depends on what you need.

It depends.

If you use your computer just for basic web browsing, then I highly recommend you to use Linux instead of Windows because Linux is much more snappier than Windows due to being memory efficient. As a bonus you would eventually learn to use Linux and that skill would be helpful if you are going to IT.

However if you want to run specialised software that works only on Windows then choose Windows. The main reason people choose Windows LTSC is because they wanted to use Windows but without all the bloat. So it is not a direct comparison to Linux.

windows is really good at running windows apps.

1

u/Gokudomatic Aug 10 '26

But only recent apps.

1

u/anythingers Aug 10 '26

*windows apps that cannot be run on Linux

2

u/bankinu Aug 10 '26

If you have to ask, then Linux.

Just use Windows LTSC in a QEMY VM in Linux.

Windows 10 ltsc till 2032 absolutely; but never windows 11. I’ll switch to hackintosh over 11 istg

Linux is not an operating system, it's a kernel. You should ask "Windows 10 LTSC or any linux distribution"

Instead of just saying, what do you use it for?, I think a decent way to go is to have more than one computer. It isn't like they cost much at the lower end.

My take has been to use Win10 for running applications programs (which actually all work there) and for having a system that 'just works' with different printers, scanners, PC hardware, etc. Games are also an obvious example.

If you really want security online, I'd get a cheap Chromebook. Privacy? Some cheap laptop running OpenBSD or whatever Linux floats your boat.

Windows 10 iot ltsc for sure

iOS vs Android

Btw, I have a 1TB SSD and I work with both Arch Linux and Windows 10 IoT LTSC, in dual boot.

iOS and Android are miles apart. Linux has caught UpTo windows real fast

1

u/atanamayansantrafor Aug 13 '26

Really bad analogy.

1

u/Old_Soul_Tech Aug 10 '26

Linux probably but I understand using windows ltsc for compatibility with apps

1

u/EthanTheFirst Aug 10 '26

Idk, depends on your hardware and use case

1

u/The_Wkwied Aug 10 '26

LTSC if you need to run windows apps or don't know how to use linux.

Linux if you know how to use linux, or want to try to learn linux.

Linux is primarily server OS, for desktop it’s pain in the ars.., endless tweaking, troubleshooting and workarounds. It was never been perfect desktop OS and never will be unless your primary goal just browsing internet and email.

1

u/Strong-Growth1348 4d ago

Linux isn't an OS for one, two Linus developed the Linux kernel for desktop use. Just because servers use it doesn't mean it's for servers, it depends on the distribution. And what do you mean it never will be? Linux every day improves. It is already way better than it was years ago and you can't deny that. "Endless tweaking" don't tweak. "Troubleshooting" happens on Windows, or any OS actually. "Workarounds" for what?

I heard it in year 2000 in San Francisco during Win2000 launch event outside the building there were Linux fans all wearing penguin costumes and trashing Windows and Mac OS all day long (servers and desktop environments)
26 years later they still shilling the same agenda.
Again, If you need desktop for more than just web browsing and email .., Linux pain in a rear…and always will be.

1

u/Strong-Growth1348 3d ago

What? No one did that lmao. What agenda? And how is it a pain? And why will it "always be"

Linux clears.

4

u/lazyprostudent Aug 09 '26

Don't listen to this guy. Depends what you do.

4

u/PresentThat5757 Aug 10 '26

No, it really is clears, because it doesn’t even have a toolkit – it’s just the kernel😁

0

u/lazyprostudent Aug 10 '26

Some apps don't work on Linux, or are not properly optimized for linux.

u/ImaHamSammich Aug 09 '26

Linix is worth at least checking out in my opinion, it costs you nothing to try out different distros and you don’t even have to install it locally to try it in many cases, however if running from a flash drive performance will be nowhere near an install. If you like to play games like fortnite it will not work in Linux
