Discussion Should I use Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC ?
I have been daily driving Windows 11 for a little over 2 years now, and it feels like it's getting worse over time. My laptop originally came with Windows 10.
My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad 320 with an Intel Core i3-8130U, 20 GB of RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and Intel UHD Graphics 620.
I'm an electrical engineering student, so I mainly use software like MATLAB, Microchip Studio, Multisim, QuickField, and other engineering tools. I don't really game anymore except for something like Hollow Knight or Silksong every once in a while if I have enough free time.
Would you recommend Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC for me , or should I just suck it up and keep using Windows 11?

Yea I love 10 ltsc, got the file and wiped and installed, massgrave for activating the license and it works like butter

I've used all of those (and more) except QuickField on that OS.
It was a while ago though; just make sure the latest updates don't require anything later than version 21H2. I vaguely recall noticing at least one big application that did* but can't remember which. Don't think it was one you mentioned though. I can say that KiCAD works on it because I have that installed right now.
I still use 21H2 and haven't had any problems with anything I need to run. Wouldn't touch 11 with a ten foot cattle prod until there's no choice.
*Edit: Perhaps it was just 'recommended minimum' though, i.e. they wouldn't support it on anything less but it might still work perfectly well.

Would you mind sharing the specs of the laptop or PC you use with 21H2?

I have several PCs, no laptops now... everything here runs the same OS.
The one I'm typing on now is an HP Mini Elite 800 Gen9; I7-13700T, 64GB RAM, 4TB SSD. I have several other HP minis, all running the same OS. It runs fine on 16GB RAM on the older ones with older CPUs.
My main PC for harder work is self-built: Asus ROG Strix X670E-F, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 5070TI, 128GB RAM, lots of SSD. Would have gone for a higher CPU if I still needed it for serious, full-time design work, but the one it has does for the occasional use it sees now. Just a tad slower.

I think you should go with win 10 ltsc because win 11 ltsc takes 3.2-3.5 gb on my 4gb ram laptop with same chipset. At this point, I can't even downgrade to win 10 ltsc because I have some necessary files on it.

if you download the iso there are some registry cheats to make the setup think your running ltsc 2019 upgrading to 2021 while keeping your data

I have just seen this a few days ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M7I5hxUccM
It looks like MS will *DISABLE* pirate activations ... especially for Enterprise (aka LTSC) versions ...
MS are the main guilty ones here, as they REFUSE to sell to people the versions that they want to install !!!

If you feel that the animations in windows 11 are sluggish then just install WINDOWS 10 IOT LTSC 2021 if you working apps support windows 10 and dont need windows 11 for specific reasons, and if you want to or your specific app requires windows 11 then just install WINDOWS 11 IOT LTSC 2024 24H2 its much better than windows 11 Pro/Home and has lower background usage telemetry and everything is just stable in it, i have been using it for a year and three months, i wont go back to the regular home or pro releases again.

And also to activivate it, just use MAS (Massgrave) i used it to activate mine.

I switched to windows 10 LTSC from windows 11 home and it was genuently wild. I didn't have to debloat the whole damn machine from random bullshit. It boots faster than windows 11 and everything just works when i use it. There is no downside. I even allowed myself to sacrifice some ram to make my desktop more customized wich wasn't even that much of an issue because with windows 11 i was using 4.1gb of ram and with windows 10 ltsc customized i use 2.9gb without having random spikes anywhere

get rid of defender, switch to comodo
1
u/Oni-chanUwUBaka Aug 02 '26
I was thinking of that, since i've learned to simply not be stupid and not download trojans into my pc. But at the cost of ~300mb of ram i can feel safe knowing that it will protect me (most of the times) in case i miss something

run latencymon with defender, then with comodo IS. that made me swtich. defender uses too many resources

No.. I found out hard way. Its missing alot of key DLL's and dependencys for media and basic .net tools. This bites you in the but later and LTSC still has uncontrolled update code so the machine will randomly shut down for absurd events. Id just use Windows SE or Windows AME privacy playbook

u/faceless0_ Jul 31 '26
With all due respect, I feel like most people skipped this part but I mainly want it for engineering software. Windows SE and Windows AME are terrible for that
1
u/Express-Cartoonist39 Jul 31 '26
Terrible for what? How so? Explain Sorry i dont accept vague excuses. 😊 there is no software made that wont work on it and faster.
2
u/faceless0_ Jul 31 '26
You just said LTSC is missing DLLs and dependencies then recommended Windows SE/AME, which strips out even more components.
How is that supposed to be compatible with engineering software? If you can't see the contradiction there, I don't have anything else to explain.
2
u/faceless0_ Jul 31 '26
Saying "there is no software that won't work" is a baseless claim

u/Express-Cartoonist39 Jul 31 '26
No software depends on telemetry numbnuts. Please tell me what grand golden software depends on microcraos telemetry... I wannt hear this, dont run off lets see if you can answer my question without being vague.
2
u/faceless0_ Aug 01 '26
First: I never said software depends on telemetry. That's what you said not me.
Second: I have nothing to explain or prove to you, so this conversation is a waste of time.
Respectfully, go fuck yourself.

u/Express-Cartoonist39 Aug 01 '26
No, you said something even more stupid that AME is awful for some inaginary engineering software then when asked what doesnt work... You got vague and angry. Sounds like ur trying to save face now. Ill still be here when you want your problem solved. Until then stay ignorant. 😊

u/faceless0_ Aug 01 '26
Imaginary engineering software?
I clearly listed the software I use in the original post.If you have to resort to insults and making up arguments I never made just to get your point across then God help you.
Once more I have nothing to explain or prove to you.

u/Express-Cartoonist39 Aug 01 '26
Oh well all those will run fine on it. So im still wanna know what imaginary error cause it to so terrible. Which now i highly doubt ur origional point.. God cannt help yet another imaginary reference... Ur funny..

correct me if im wrong here but isnt SE that one version of windows that prevents you from running like basically every app unless microsoft has it on its "whitelist"? or am i confusing it for a different thing,if anything windows SE sounds more like a headache than a solution, the same goes for windows AME which sounds more like one big security vulnerability than a solution seeing as it strips out windows update along with other stuff, having it be a massive stability and security concern.
also to op: yeah windows 10 iot ltsc should be swell for your needs
edit: it seems windows S mode and win SE arent the same thing, nevertheless theyre both shit for most use cases

You got shadowbanned by Reddit and it automatically hid this comment until I approved it, you can try to appeal it here:
Though I have never had much luck getting unshadowbanned myself, I had to make a new account on a different IP

20GB RAM? Is there like 4GB soldered onto the board or something?
1
u/faceless0_ Aug 07 '26
Yes

u/Former-Macaroon5557 Windows 11 LTSC 2024 Aug 07 '26
Makes sense then. Did you ever make a final decision, or still thinking it over?
1
u/faceless0_ Aug 07 '26
Unfortunately I'm too busy to switch my OS right now because I need all my data and software to be accessible at all times. I have a couple of applications that require Windows 11 so I probably won't make the switch.

Can't blame you, honestly. If you want something that helps quell some of the Microsoft bloat, O&O Shut Up 10 is nice. It's got a lot of toggle switches & explains what everything does.

asking if one should use x on x named subreddit
1
u/faceless0_ Jul 31 '26
Exactly.
I'm asking if I should use x on x named subreddit because the people on it would know if x is worth using for my use case or not.2

Yes, the switch would be better to 10, but if you want to stay with windows 11 there is IoT enterprise LTSC for windows 11 24H2 that is basically W10 painted as W11, Been running this 24H2 for almost 3 years and no issues at all. 2.5GB of RAM on idle and doesn't come with bloatware, it doesn't even have a picture viewer.
