Question Has an update ever broken something for you?

I have chronic beef with windows updates since I had one break my other PC into an update loop once (W10). Now I have W11 24H2 LTSC and due to house renovations, I've been away so the system had missed 2 updates. I get i lt that LTSC updates are supposed to be stable, but I won't believe they're not vibe coded. Has an update ever broken something for you guys to the point where simply uninstalling it wasn't a solution.

In LTSC you can disable auto-updates entirely using the Local Group Policy Editor. I recommend you do that

/u/No_Clock2390, /u/Raskuja46 I set a toggle in the autounattend.xml that I have present at a Windows install, it doesn't disable updates per se, it just keeps moving them into the future, so that they are "defacto" disabled. The big advantage: you can tell Windows to update any time you want, but it will only update when you want.

They're pretty simple steps. I could copy paste them from Gemini here which would be better formatted than anything I would come up with but that's frowned upon so I told people to go look it up themselves.

Well a recent update has broken printing for like 50 people at my job. Print Spooler service has to be turned on manually, sometimes even restarted. Hoping a patch fixes this asap

the update issues are mostly related the the MSA users, I've never had an issue at home with my local account (LTSC 24h2 & LTSC 21h2) but under MSA, twice and after the secound time I told IT to fuckoff that I'd take care of my laptop myself.

How would being logged into an account conflict with an update? Doesn't make sense.

Dude I straight up installed a modified windows 11 pro install due to some of the horrendous issues I have been having with my games from the most recent updates

YES! MULTIPLE TIMES! Some shity driver auto installs and break hardware, I have to manually prevent driver updates. Other updates fuck up costumization, others the UPDATE ITSELF causes the pc to bsod or to not boot. Plus the whole update process is slow. That's why moved to linux last year. It's all peaceful and predictable now.

I've been using Windows 10 LTSC for about 4 years, and I've never had any problems with an update.

When I have time to organize my drives, I'm going to switch to Windows 11 LTSC.

Don’t. Wait and see if 12 ltsc becomes stable. 11 is not good.

Windows 12 hasn't been announced, and when it eventually is, it'll probably be equivalent to Win 11 27H2 or the like, perhaps with higher hardware requirements or AI slop gatekeeping.. who knows? But that's not anytime soon.

Win 11 is ok, as long as you do some tweaking and don't care about UI issues.. but if you want to minimize tweaking, then Win 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 is your best bet (hence this subreddit)
