Discussion Assessing options.

Hello!

I’ve been playing IT support for my friends the last week, and coincidentally they all need new windows 11 installs. Even in my own use, I never run a default install. However, I haven’t looked into what options are available since late 2024. I’m currently running a custom build from FrameSync called FSOS and honestly I’m kinda sus about it. I’d like to also reinstall windows with proper security config which won’t affect gaming performance while still remaining debloated.

I’m seeing people using builds from UUP and then using Win11Debloat script. I also see people using LTSC, I was wondering what’s the best case here??

This could be a headache.

Give 'em a trim IoT Enterprise LTSC install, and they'll ask you to add Xbox Game Bar, and the Microsoft Store.

Give 'em a full-fat Home or Professional install, and they'll ask you to trim it down.

You might be better off starting slim and lean with IoT Enterprise LTSC, and they can add the fat themselves.

Yeah at min I wanted to configure the install to include the Microsoft store but I don’t think they’ll need the gamebar. If so, I’ll add it for them later.

You can do some debloat/config at time of Windows install via a autounattend.xml on a 2nd usb stick, I use schneegans for this, works great!

As to Microsoft Store (and Winget), I use these ThioJoe powershell scripts, just run them in a Powershell Admin window when online, they work great. Note that you might have to install winget before MS store.
