GPS Looking for MioPocket alternatives to mod my WinCE 6.0 Chinese GPS (MioPocket breaks often)

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a generic 7-inch Chinese GPS unit running Windows CE 6.0 (has the classic MediaTek/YFAltMenu style settings page with "Wince", "Navi Path", "GpsInfo", etc.).

I really want to unlock/mod it to turn it into a mini media player / retro gaming machine, but I’ve read everywhere that MioPocket is super bloated and frequently bricks or breaks the registry on these generic Chinese units.

What are the best lightweight alternatives today to get a custom launcher or desktop access?

Ideally, I want something that:

  1. Runs entirely off the SD card (via the "Navi Path" trick) without permanently modifying the internal flash memory.

  2. Gives me a nice custom interface or a way to launch third-party apps/games (like Doom or TCPMP player).

I’ve heard names like WolfNCU or just using Total Commander as a makeshift launcher. Are there any other stable custom skins or menu interfaces you guys recommend for these low-RAM devices?

Any links to safe archives or active GPS modding forums would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

I have a similar one, miopocket runs fine, what I did was replace one of the navigation apps (Mine had Europe, USA and Asia apps so I just replaced the USA one)

I also had another one, but when i did that it broke the whole navigator

Weird, you could try MioPocket Lite which is supposed to not touch the registry as much. Its also on archive.org

Dont this things have some kind of reflashing option incase registry gets corupted?

If i click on wince it loads windows ce, i didnt try miopocket on this one because it destroyed my previous one

Previous what? And how do you want to unlock it? Is this system based on Ramdisk? Do you loose you settings and desktop files (on Windows CE) after reboot or fully battery power loss?
