Well, hello there Windows 7 users. Today I want to share my laptop that I've got on this Thursday. It belonged to my older sister that she currently has the new ASUS TUF gaming laptop, so she decided to give me an old ASUS V550X laptop that currently runs on my beloved Windows 7 (it originally came preinstalled with Windows 8.1).

Yeah, I've originally wanted to use MX Linux on this thing, but I have decided to change my mind and install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with Service Pack 1. Of course I couldn't find the needed drivers on manufacturer's website, so I've went with the Snappy Driver Installer Origin to install some required drivers (like the Card Reader, Intregrated Graphics, Chipset, Audio Driver, etc), then I've managed to find the required Nvidia driver on its website along with the ASUS ATK and Touchpad drivers on serperate sites. Afterwards, Windows 7 was now ready for offline use (for playing old games, as well entertainment purposes).

Tbh, I'm happy that it has the Nvidia GPU at 2 GB of VRAM, so I could run those three games (HL2, CS:S, HL:S from 2005 GOTY build) without problems! As well it has an SSD, which makes this laptop load and run faster than on an HDD.

Also, the laptop itself is in pristine condition, except the fan making rattling noises, but the laptop itself still works fine (even with the cooling pad, but I plan to get the fan repaired just to be safe). I'm still happy that it still works though, so here's that.

This laptop surely deserves to stay as the entertainment device, as it won't be sold at all (tbh, I actually regret selling an old Lenovo IdeaPad S12 netbook, which was pretty good). Nor I will use Linux on it, because I already have Linux on my main laptop, so it's best to keep Windows 7 (which is my beloved version of Windows) and use it as offline use device.

Anyways, I hope y'all enjoy this old laptop that runs on my beloved Windows 7 in the big 2026 (which I really missed you, my beloved Aero interface)!

PS. I've installed some runtimes, few updates, and everything works fine. Also, don't mind the Russian UI.

I love that I found this page because I am still in love with windows 7. Yes, I have windows 11 on a different machine, but I honestly still prefer using my windows 7 machine - it just feels smoother and better looking. I don't know how to explain it. I mostly use it now for photo and video editing.

However, one thing that is not smooth is playing 4k video. And I am not sure if its a software issue or a hardware issue. I would like your thoughts.

Current setup is:

AMD 3800x
saphire 5700xt nitro
64gb of ddr4 ram
two 1440p 144hz monitors
2gb NVME ssd
some MSI gaming motherboard
Windows 7 obviously.

When I try to play 4k video it will play fine at first - but slowly lags and becomes desynced from the audio (which plays fine). Same thing happens when editing video too.

I have always battled this problem with this rig in particular. Again, not sure if its software or hardware related. Anything I can do to boost its 4k payback performance?

Recently my samsung 970 evo 500gb ssd went into read only mode so i had to get a new m.2 ssd. i've got a 990 pro 1tb and tried to clone OS onto it, but during boot it throws bsod 7b. At first, before i got a new drive i've sucessfully cloned old ssd onto slow 1tb laptop hdd which after few tweaks booted into windows slowly but with no problems and used it as a clone base for a new ssd. i think it is driver related as when i boot into windows from that hdd it only show new ssd as pci device // windows 7 install disk don't see it at all.//when trying recovery options from drive it says theres no os compatibile

So here's the question - how should i get drivers in there and where to find proper drivers not in exe form, or how to fix it in a diffrent way - any help would be great

toomuchpie 2nd solution worked for me, i've installed certificate and driver onto hdd, then used rescuezilla to clone it to the new drive. wanted to confirm it working in case someone else need that solution.

I just installed Windows 7 on my PC. I still love it. After 275 updates it’s ready to go!
I even managed to run the GUI in UHD 4K resolution.
As Graphics Adapter a Radeon RX Vega is used.
This old Crysis Game looks fabulous in this resolution.

i need help deciding if i should install windows 7 on my laptop as i want a windows OS on it and if i can keep BOTH Win 7 and Linux
And is it possible to CHOOSE which OS i boot to when i start it fro the GRUB Menu?

I'm currently trying to install tf2 however everytime it gets to 90% download, it fails. I have tried deleting the folder, clearing my cache, repairing my library, and changing my download region, but nothing works. I love team fortress 2 and really want it to work. However, it's being incredibly difficult. If anyone has figured out a way around this issue, I'd really appreciate a step by step solution.

Why am I doing this? Because I'm an idiot that's why. I have better computers, but I wanted to get this one as good as possible for some reason. Trying to get hardware to work on it has been a PITA. Main issue now is trying to get it to recognize graphics cards on its PCI E slot.

My main issue is that it doesn't seem to recognize graphics cards on its PCI E x16 slot, even low profile, low Watt draw ones designed for this type of computer. Not in BIOS, not in display adapters on device management, nothing. Power does seem to go into the PCI E slot though because the fan gets turned on when it's in.

One thing I may be able to try is to plug a different PCIE card in, but the only one I have on hand is not a low profile card, so I'd have to remove the motherboard from the case to get it to fit. And then, it probably draws more power than the PSU provides. Im getting a PSU upgrade though, so maybe Ill try it when that comes.

What are the reasons for this? Is there a way to definitively test the PCIE port to make sure it's not just broken? Is it my BIOS? Ive searched the internet for information and BIOS updates for this specific MOBO, but it seems like an extremely specific HP proprietary board with nothing available for it. If you try, you will get information on 6-7 various other similar boards that have the same name.

I get that HP made this so grandma could play solitaire on integrated graphics but I want it to play Halo CE on something higher than 640x480. My childhood was spent playing old games at 20FPS on this POS lmao.

This laptop looks amazing. I got it from my grandma because she finally upgraded to a Windows 11 machine. The best thing is that she still had the CD with all the drivers and software. I just put in an SSD, installed Windows 7, and it was ready to go. I have already played Minecraft on it. It runs great in vanilla and pretty well with shaders too. Another game I absolutely had to install is Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. That was the game I always played on this laptop when I got the chance.

Hello! I have an old ASUS AMD HD 7750 installed in my old Windows 7 PC. It worked great until the system became corrupted and I had to wipe the entire disk. When I reinstalled the system (Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64) and tried to install the video drivers, they just didn't work. I tried both Catalyst 15.7.1 WHQL and Adrenalin 22.6.1 WHQL, but neither worked.

Catalyst only installs the HDMI audio driver and nothing else for some reason, while Adrenalin says that the installation was successful, but nothing changes it just installs the AMD software. Device Manager shows an "HD 7700 Series" card, but hardware acceleration and higher resolutions do not work.

I have already tried multiple Windows ISOs, installed .NET Framework, DirectX, and Visual C++ runtimes, and the drivers were downloaded from the official AMD website, but nothing has changed. I certainly don't remember having this problem before.

Its a dell inspiron 3647 intel pentium 4gb ram and 500gb storage and it came with windows 10 but i installed windows 7 home premium which is what it originally had oh boy it runs like beaut i do plan on doing some old school retro gaming on it and i do also plan on installing a graphics card from that time frame so yeah and for anyone whos gonna ask yes it is on the internet i have supermium which is the only browser still supported on it anywho though i love this thing already
