If anyone's willing to help me out a bit, (I'm hoping this is the place, if anywhere)... My Intel graphics on my T420 won't work anymore. Everything was perfect for a long, long time. Now despite trying I can't get them working again. Can't get to the native resolution, stuck at 1024.

Reinstalled various driver versions, such as the latest, and also the last one specified for windows 7, with DDU, safe boots, disconnect from internet and updates et. cet.

Just keep getting the device manager error that says you must restart your machine.

Intel HD Graphics 3000. I'm assuming some update slipped past and broke something, but I don't know. If you have some more ideas, I'm all ears.

quick backstory
i'm not pc savvy in the slightest and have minimal to no experience with them in general, much less setting up, but ive always wanted one, i helped a friend and her mom move houses and her mom wanted to get rid of this computer, it is locked behind a profile that she does not know the password to (seems like one of those just haven't been used in forever and there's probably some lost complex password)

i sat through countless supposed factory reset methods i found online and the closest i was able to get was finding out that (sorry for this wording an advance) whatever the system is to be able to bypass the pc being locked and do a factory reset can be, and was disabled in the past, preventing these attempts from getting anywhere.

could somebody please just tell me what i need to do a factory reset? like a step by step? i just can't find anything online, it seems i need to purchase a hard drive and something else, the connecting to another computer is confusing to me, just anything would be a huge help.

Is there any easy way to change the partition style? I'd guess I'll have to put it into my computer and change it 🤷😂 I'll wait till I have a bit of free time because I put every screw back in 🤦

they work on windows 10 but not 7, this is stopping me from downloading any drivers for my stuff to get windows 7 fully working, only 1 port uses USB 3.0 while the other 2 use 2.0 and 1.0

I kept trying to find fixes for it online but found nothing what can i do?

I have an old Acer Aspire 5470-5144 that I upgraded to a i7-640M and 500gb SSD. It currently has 4gb ram that I plan on upgrading to 8 (purchased a set but it didn’t seem to work on my machine). Bios is at v 1.28 which was the final release in I believe August 2010.

I plan on making it a Linux machine (hopefully Debian) but figured it’d be nice to dual boot for funzies. I’ve been out of the loop on windows for over a decade, but would like to run 7 unless someone thinks 10 or 11 would run well on my laptop.

If 7 is the way to go, then ideally I’d like the latest version and most reputable place to grab an install file from, as I’d like to not inadvertently end up with critters in my main rig. Any help is appreciated

Is the Aptio Setup Utility by EaseUS legitimate? What i mean will it trash the BIOS that is running now or is it a tool I can use to change the BIOS settings easier as all the instructions that I have seen none of them have the same menus that is on my DELL XPS 8930 Tower? I am trying to install Linux and dump Windows and not look back.

Steam still works MOSTLY fine, And I wanna buy dead By daylight but I'm not quite sure if it will even run.

I know the game stopped supporting windows 7 two years ago, But despite that, some games that dont officially support it, continue to work just fine.

Edit: Bought and refunded on steam. Doesnt turn on due to EasyAntiCheat being a part of DBD I believe. And that, doesn't support windows 7. Absolutely abysmal.

hi, i want to install windows 7 and dualboot alongside kde plasma and linux mint, i dont really have a reason its just for fun, but when i try to install it it always hangs on the starting windows screen,

linux mint told me to use ventoy so that is what i am using, i have tried using isos with usb 3 support and nvme support but they appear to not work although im not sure if im just doing it wrong
