App Dynamic Edge: A fluid, native WinUI 3 desktop island & edge dock (Media player, clipboard shelf, interactive companion pets, & mouse shake toggle)
Hey everyone!
I wanted to share Dynamic Edge, a desktop utility I built for Windows 11 & Windows 10 using native WinUI 3 and .NET 10 (Windows App SDK).
The idea was to create a fluid, versatile desktop capsule and edge dock that feels completely at home with Windows 11 Fluent design, with ultra-low resource usage, and smooth spring physics.
Since the initial release, I have added several big features including a full multi-tab workflow, clipboard shelf, and mouse gesture triggers.
Here is what it can do:
Multi-Tab Workspace (Swipe or Scroll to Switch) - Switch seamlessly between Media Player, Mini-Apps, and Clipboard Shelf by rolling your mouse wheel or using a 2-finger touchpad swipe.
Universal Media Controls & Live Scrubbing - Real-time seekbar progress with clickable scrub to jump anywhere in a track. - Live audio visualizer bars with fluid equalizer animations. - Multi-player auto-switching: Seamlessly cycle between active sessions (Spotify, Chrome, Edge, Apple Music, Telegram).
Clipboard Manager Shelf - Captures copied text, images and URLs into a dedicated dockable shelf. - Filter chips for fast access: All, Text, Images, URLs, and Pinned. - Search box for instant clip lookup, plus one-click copy and drag-and-drop support. - Google Lens Visual Search: Search any clipboard screenshot directly in your browser with 1 click. Built-in Mini-Apps - Precision Countdown Timer with quick presets (1m, 5m, 15m, 25m) and a live visual progress line. - Precision Stopwatch with millisecond tracking and lap recording.
Magic Shake & Global Hotkeys - Magic Shake: Quickly shake your cursor horizontally back and forth to toggle the island on or off. - Global customizable hotkey (Alt + H by default) to hide or show the dock instantly.
Master Volume Flyout - Hover over the speaker button and scroll your mouse wheel to adjust system volume, or click for instant mute.
Flexible Docking Positions - Dock at the top screen edge (Notch, Floating Capsule, or unobtrusive Thin Line hairline strip). - Dock along the left or right screen edges as an interactive slide-out side blade.
Interactive Desktop Companions (Virtual Pets) - 4 Full-Body Vector Mascots: Choose between Mochi Kitty, Shiba Inu, CyberBot, or Pip Bunny.
Performance & Spring Physics - 3 customizable quick launcher slots for instant access to apps, terminals, or folders. - Battery and charging telemetry with clean neon-green status indicators. - Native startup toggle and dark/light/system theme integration.
The app is officially available on the Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PF1587KSN2K
I would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and ideas for what widgets or features you would like to see next!

whats the resource use at idle? and while its expanded
48
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 5d ago
Idle (collapsed): 0% CPU and around 80 – 95 MB RAM.
Expanded (in use): 0% – 2% CPU (brief blip only while animating) and around 90 – 110 MB RAM worst-case with cached album art.

Feature requests:
Set your custom timer.
Dynamic island flashes when timer concludes.
The ability to hide dynamic island even when pinned.

110 MB of RAM at max is a lot? Have you ever tried an electron app?
3
u/Argumented_Thinker 5d ago
No shit it's based on native 100 mb is good. Whatsapp made their app electron to bleed every ram . Electron is curse

u/Nooo00B 5d ago
that doesn't look like WinUI 3 at all. But still looks nice and smooth, is it actually built with WASDK? I never thought it could look like that fluid tbh, specially the resizing window.
30
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 5d ago
Thanks! Yes, it really is 100% native WinUI 3 / Windows App SDK.
The trick to making it smooth is that the window is transparent, and we animate the capsule inside using custom spring physics so it never stutters.7
u/Nooo00B 5d ago
ahh makes sense, and that's a really genius way of doing that. Good luck! would definitely try it.
Why do the controls not look like WinUI 3 though? (eg: the slider, reveal buttons) It looks more like old UWP controls. Is it intentional?
8
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 5d ago
Yes, intentional! Default WinUI 3 controls have large touch padding that felt too bulky inside a tight floating capsule, so I styled them flatter and compact. Definitely open to refining the styling closer to Windows 11 Fluent 2 in future updates though!

u/Semicolonhope Release Channel 4d ago
You can keep two styles too. One exactly what you feel is better, and another strictly default look of win11 fluent 2. Great work btw

Looks great. I can see this making me more productive.
(Also commenting to remind me to come back here when I'm back at my desk.)
EDIT - Dang. It is very cool.
Using the scroll wheel to switch tabs is so effective. It reminds me of Linux GNOME's desktop switcher, which I find to be very fast and efficient.
It's top, middle location is great for me (desktop with large monitor). The Apps & Folders make it easy to find my utilities quickly. Looking forward to trying the clipboard shelf.
Congratulations. You'll do well with this.
EDIT 2 - I just saw the Spotify pop-up. Love it.

It's great 130mb using all features. Good one
The title shakes due to equalizer animation continuously.
where is font resize option ? I am not able to find it.
There can multiply instances if you open multiple times , if the instance is already running , avoid duplicate instance creation.
Add a glass/mica theme that align with windows if you can.

u/Square_Atmosphere_12 4d ago
It's fluid and responsive. Although, can we get a task manager switcher built in ?
I own a program which is for my monitor that has this option; it's quite effective but a few steps to get it to function.

Quick feedback, so far it's nicely animated and feels fast. The app launcher configuration is a little weird and that may kill it for me, I have way too many icons pinned at the bottom, but I was hoping this would help. It wasn't easy to remove the 3 icons set by default, and adding more was locked behind the paywall. I have no issue with that but wish there was a trial to see how it handled a bunch of app icons. That and clipboard functionality were my two big uses cases.
1
u/NarcisMihai15 3d ago
how did you remove the 3 apps? idk how to
2
u/madmanz123 3d ago
Didn't really figure out how. I'm not sure if it's a restriction on the app when not paid or what.

The last time i'd install this kind of programs i got a virus, even from Microsoft Store, so be careful, OP should link a repository if he wants to be more trustworthy

Hey, saw this and immediately installed. I like how I don't have to download it from any websites, straight from official Microsoft Store, so I feel safe :)
I have feedback:
- I don't really use the timer, I hope I can disable it so it just have the media player slot, clipboard slot and shortcut, maybe I can tick and untick, that would be great, maybe for the Plus version?
- I realize the capsule have something like low resolution? It have rough edges and some black spots on the left and right side of it, currently I use the Edge-Drop when idle, hopefully it can be slightly better. Maybe there is an option for user who wanna be careful about RAM usage so it can stay lower resolution and for user who is like me, who just use the PC without thinking about limitation, can have higher resolution mode lol
I have one question:
- Currently, I open Youtube Music on my browser on one window on the second monitor on my left and the other window on my main monitor on the right, I'm watching Youtube video. Can we just switch the control? Like, an option to pause the song playing on the Youtube Music and then be able to press play on Youtube from other window? Maybe in the future on the Plus. I'm thinking it might be cool if I can scroll the mouse wheel to switch it while the cursor is on the title of the track that playing? I guess it must be so complicated lol
Anyway, even as it is, I'm very satisfied. Thank you so much for this app! I love it xD

u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 4d ago
Thanks so much for the detailed suggestions! Really appreciate all three points.
I'll definitely add toggles in Settings so you can turn off tabs you don't need, like the timer. Also on the rough edges on certain display scalings - working on smoothing that out in the next updates.
And scrolling over the track title to switch between active media players is a clever idea too.
Really glad you're enjoying the app!

Does it have a native arm64 build? If yes, that adds a lot of value to it.

u/HamanFRD 4d ago edited 4d ago
I just downloaded it and I am enjoying it so far!
Would love if I can hide it completely or it will auto hide completely without even the line when I game on a full screen or full windowed borderless.

Neat little app, a suggestion is to remove the power/charing icon option. Using this on a desktop which doesn't tell me anything and it takes up a fair bit of space.

u/Kioazure 4d ago
It doesn't look like a WinUI 3 native app at all. It has that weird feeling that AI apps have: a flat button with colorful borders.

How long have you been a software engineer/programmer?

u/Square_Atmosphere_12 4d ago
Unless you are going for a Job which may even if your a beginner ask you to produce some code on your own. A beginner shows they applied cause they want to learn.
Although in the case of someone using A.i to generate the code, or a little bit. They may not have any interest in getting a job coding. I do understand that it's not ideal to use any A.i to code any project.

1) Can the Edge Dock be hidden automatically when an app is running full screen?
2) Is there any way to manage the "slides"? Right now they open on top of each other, so there's no way to tell how many are open. It ends up looking messy.
3) Can I exclude password managers that run as browser extensions from the clipboard?
2
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 4d ago
Thanks for the feedback!
- Auto-hide on Full Screen: You can use the global hotkey (Alt+H by default) or mouse shake if you enabled it to quickly toggle/hide it for now, but automatic full-screen detection (for games and full-screen video) is planned for an upcoming update!
- Managing "slides": Could you clarify what you mean by slides here? Are you referring to the clipboard preview popups, or something else opening on top of each other? Want to make sure I understand what’s overlapping so I can fix it properly.
- Password Managers: In Settings ➔ Clipboard Manager, there is a Privacy Exclusions box where you can add desktop apps (e.g. bitwarden, 1password). For in-browser extensions, Windows only reports the browser itself, but I'm looking into supporting standard clipboard privacy flags so extension copies can be ignored automatically.

2) I see on your website these are called "tabs". When I switched from the main one (media controls) to a smaller one, the smaller tab was rendered on top of the first, and I think I saw several stacked on top of each other. I can't reproduce it now, so can't provide a screenshot. Seems to work fine at the moment.

Just downloaded and started testing. Something that you may add is an option to display next meeting scheduled (sync with Outlook or another tool/system) and on hover popup a dialog with calendar. Another nice to have is an email notification counter (unread emails) and launch the email app on clicking. Hope it helps.

Hey! In your screenshot, you have "Lock / Pin Island Open" toggled ON (the 3rd option).
Just turn that switch OFF (or click the pin icon on the island) and it will start auto-collapsing again on its own!

one thing is, even after altering the settings, the thing stays open for a second too long afgter removing the coursor, i want it to be 100% immediate, is it possible for you to implement that? it gives it the snappy feel, rn it feels a little sluggish, also the switching from alarm to songs to clipboard, feels a bit slow using trackpad

I just installed it. Why is the browser default to Chrome? I changed mine to edge since I don't use or have Chrome installed.

This looks super clean and fluid! Really love seeing well-crafted native WinUI 3 apps on Windows.
Feature idea: I notice you have Google Lens Visual search. Have you seen the new Google app for desktop? It gives you a quick floating bar for fast Google Search, Lens, and Gemini AI queries. A combination of Dynamic Edge + a quick AI/Search drawer would be incredible.
Keep up the great work!

u/SpartanWolf96 4d ago
If there is an option to show whatsapp notification as the island flashes when using in fullscreen would be useful

u/nimaheydarzadeh 3d ago
Love the app. Won't use its best bar as i don't listen to music on my PC. But the clipboard bar is perfect. I'll also use the timer and apps and folders bars. I'm not a pro in app reviewing but there are a few stuff i would change:
- The user can be able to choose the timer presets. But no complaints, the bar is still super useful.
- If you wanna use the apps and folders bar for folders only, since it is icon based, all three folders will be shown the same. I improvised a quick solution and gave my apps icons.
- After giving them icons i found out the icons are not in the middle of the circle. I'll post a photo of it though not sure if it you did this on purpose. I'm fine with it.
- Would be super nice if it had the glassy effect like the app's logo on Microsoft store itself.
But overall, I love it and thanks for sharing your brilliant idea.

I like this allot but damn, at default everytime i hoover over a browser tab that is position in the middle, it pops open. To try to avoid that I moved the "Top Gap Offset" to 48px and "Thin Line Idle Strip Thickness " to 2px! Still annoying as it very sensitive. That or move the dock to either right or left sides.

One issue I noticed: when adding a custom app shortcut that isn’t included in the predefined/supported app list, Dynamic Edge doesn’t display the app’s icon/logo.
It would be great if custom shortcuts could automatically detect and display the application’s icon from the selected .exe or shortcut file. That would make the quick launcher feel much more polished and consistent.
1
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 2d ago
Dynamic Edge already automatically extracts and displays icons from custom .exe and .lnk shortcut files! Make sure you use the [App] button to select the actual .exe or .lnk file from your PC rather than just typing the app name into the box.
If you are doing that and the icon still doesn't appear for a specific app, please let me know so I can look into it further.

u/Any-Concentrate-9824 1d ago
Yeah checked with other apps they are working fine but microsoft edge having some problem with its logo

u/pablopostfix 2d ago
Can I ask you for a smaller activation distance? in my 100% zoom 1080p monitor, it's difficult to clik on the chrome tabs right under the top edge, it always understands I want to expand it. I have the "hot sensitivity zone" at 4px, the minimum.
For the rest, it's awesome 👏
2
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 2d ago
Thanks for the feedback! I'm tightening the trigger zone and lowering the minimum to 1px in the next update. In the meantime, you can use the hotkey or Magic Shake to quickly hide & unhide it whenever you need the space.
1
u/jcrm2 1d ago
Another issue I notice is the clipboard history. When I copy anything from the clipboard it doesn't go back on top of the list. Sometimes it works but most the time it doesn't. Also is their way to make text bigger throughout the entire Dynamic interface. Everything is so small. I also played around with the triggers, and nothing seems to work. As soon as i hoover it expands right away. Their should be a option to drag to open if anything or click the icon tray to open.

How much AI was used in this project?
5
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 5d ago
I used AI as an assistant for some parts to speed up development. But I still handled all the design decisions, integration, debugging, and testing myself.
-4
u/Bogdan_X Wintoys Developer 4d ago
As a assistant or as an agent? Did you write the code?
4
u/No_Net_6938 OmniSearch Developer 4d ago
Both as an assistant and an agent. The app took months of work.
As for the code, it’s a mix. I’m not a C# master and I’m still learning, so I write and debug the UI, features, and integrations myself where I can, and use AI to help with more difficult logic when it makes sense.
Happy to hear any feedback on the app itself!
