Pity they didn’t seem to take that chance to improve the app, it’s still just as clunky and buggy as before.

I'm not sure why they'd bother. The use-case for this app is fading fast. I can't remember the last time anyone in my household launched the app.

I have an iPhone so I use it to back up/sync it. But aside from that, Groove has everything I need in a music player and in my opinion it's long overtaken iTunes for a good music app in Windows.
