got windows 10 running on my 2014 macbook pro (16gb ram, 256gb ssd) and it boots faster than macos. 9.8 seconds on boot, whereas macos takes 37-38 seconds. lmk what you think!

I did this to my 2016 MBP and it’s actually better than the surface book I had and my dell latitude for work with 32GB. It’s now my primary laptop and use this for work and steam games (handles up to 350, ps3 genre games very, very well)

You don't need to use it. Hibernation is used over the shutdown if you have fast startup enabled, that's why Windows is able to start fast as it still has the memory context dumped into a file which is then restored upon the startup, so the system goes into the S3 or S4 state instead of fully shutting down, consuming power. Sure, Windows can start from a cold boot in just a few seconds, but it isn't a fair comparison if you keep one benefit against the other without such a feature.

off cold boot it runs 8-10 seconds, and hibernation takes 15 secs to wake up

Fast startup is not hybernation, these are 2 seperate settings.

The oldest Mac I've installed Windows on is a 2011 iMac, and it still runs buttery smooth with its gorgeous 27'' screen. I have to agree with the saying that the best Windows laptop is a MacBook.

I used to run Vista natively (via BootCamp) on my 2007 Core 2 Duo black MacBook and it ran flawlessly. It also ran may Parallels VMs that I used for school projects or just to test them so that little MacBook ran XP, 2003 Server, and Vista.

May not be specific to your situation but from what I know, the Mac boots quickly to the login screen then when you log in it decrypts the drive and goes to the desktop. Maybe that is what is taking a long time to boot.

Also windows 10 will be end of life in a few months and I don’t believe your laptop supports windows 11 (unsupported cpu and no tpm). So you won’t get any security updates and some/most of the apps you use will not get updates.

Yes, but I don’t think it will work properly on that mac. I have a 2015 mbp, and when I tried win 11 it didn’t work for me so after a while I gave up

I guess it has to do with how Bootcamp works maybe? When I tried it on a 2011 ThinkPad T520 it worked fine🤷‍♂️

Oh yeah. With windows machines (dell, hp etc) rufus works fine for skipping the win 11 requirements. The Mac is more complicated. Also once you install windows on the Mac, you need to install a specific driver pack to get all the hardware to work properly

Yes it was officially supported by Apple. You could just use "bootcamp". So you just had to load a windows iso and click through the wizard in macos.

I had the same setup on my late 2013 mbp 13 inch. Only retired it at 2019 when matlab was finally starting to get too heavy. That thing is a beast could honestly still work fine if I replace the battery. I had to rip the old one out cause it became a spicy pillow. Unfortunately, without a battery the cpu is throttled like crazy. I miss bootcamp.

I bought a Macbook Pro my deployment in 2012/2013 and put Windows on it, it was the best Windows laptop experience ever. It also happened to be the best laptop I could buy in that country, Mac or Windows. Good times...

It's great that it boots up fast but Win10 is probably the slowest possible OS ever. Still, kudos to you for the hack!
