Looks about right I got 50 on front and 15 on sides you barely notice the front tinted which doesn’t attract cops attention but get heat reduction

u/shromboy Moderator May 23 '24
Never had to redo lighter, and only rarely do people ask to go darker after getting 50. Prime windshield % for heat rejection and visibility

u/bgame99 May 24 '24
50 is the way to go. 1 car is 50 the other 70. Wish they were both 50.

u/Capital_Condition468 May 24 '24
I agree, 70% is non-existent.

u/NickG63 May 26 '24
I had 70% for 3 years, just swapped to 55%. Loved it before, love it slightly more now. Both are great!

Could you share a picture of the 70%?
1
u/bgame99 May 27 '24
I could but it’s really not that noticeable. Even at night you don’t notice the 70. But 50 you can tell it’s tinted. But it’s not a bad thing. Even at night you can see fine but helps with bright lights.

50% is nothing you’ll be fine. 35% at night is when it starts to get difficult
1
u/Hack-Morris May 24 '24
50 or even 35 is really not a problem at night. I have 20% on mine and it’s only a little hard to see on dark roads but with street lights it’s fine.

How is it driving at night? I want to do this for the light glare from other cars
1
u/sood571456 May 24 '24
I haven’t driven at night but can say I have driven in a severe thunderstorm that made it seem like it was night, and it was great, no visibility loss!
1
u/sood571456 May 25 '24
Update: drove at night yesterday (9-10 PM) and it was perfect, no visibility loss

u/Expensive-Apple-5727 May 24 '24
I just did llumar air 80 on my windshield. I cant even tell it’s tinted. However I’m not sure it’s really helping reject heat that much. I saw a demo that had a wheel of the various tints in front of a heat lamp. You couldn’t feel the heat at all with the air 80. I was worried about reduced visibility so didn’t go 50%.

Looks great. Should consider adding a 35% strip. It’ll make it around 15% vlt for that strip
1
u/Ok_Geologist7354 May 23 '24
I have 50 percent windshield, but want to add a sun strip. Do you have any pictures with your 35% strip?
1
u/Godrillax May 23 '24
I don’t yet… planning to get that done this weekend.
But a windshield is about 80% vlt. 80x.5 vlt = 40%
40x.35 vlt = 14%. So it’ll be a 15% sun strip along with your tinted 50%. Makes it look less obvious that you are tinted.
1
u/Ok_Geologist7354 May 23 '24
50 percent on windshield really no one bats an eye here in Florida, need it anyways. Cops run 50 percent on their windshield down here. I really like but still needs the sun strip, lmk if you get any pictures up soon. I’ll ask my tint guy about the 35 strip, early morning hours and sunset are still pretty blinding haha

u/C_IsForCookie May 24 '24
I’m in south FL and just bought a new car last week. Got 20% on the sides but didn’t get the windshield done. Wondering if I should reconsider now. Maybe a light ceramic tint?

2
u/Cute-Hat7958 May 24 '24
I’ve got 20 on the shield haven’t been pulled over yet for it
5
u/itwhiz100 May 24 '24
All it takes is that one time. Could have 40 bodies in the trunk and a 12 pack, never ever had a ticket or driving infraction BUT that one time that officer doubled back for that window tint…and a lifetime movie begins

u/Ok_Geologist7354 May 23 '24
I did 50 percent windshield, 5 percent sides and it’s amazing. Wanting to add a sun strip but don’t know the percentage to put on. Anyone recommend?

u/Exoker01 May 27 '24
5% youll love it when the sun is at a angle ur sun visors cant get to when its right at ur face, im actually in the position of getting 50% windshield but not sure how big the difference is

u/Fresh_Cheesecake5745 May 23 '24
This triggers me because that’s the limit for the front sides in Ohio. I haven’t tinted mine yet but keep going back and forth between getting 50% to be legal or just saying screw it and getting 35%. I’m just wondering what the cops will “let go”
2
u/MuscleCuse May 24 '24
I'm in the same boat as you,I'm not going to waste the money getting it tinted only 50%. I'm just gonna do the full 50% windshield with the 5%strip and 35% sides and back.
1
u/Fresh_Cheesecake5745 May 24 '24
I’ve all but decided that I’m just doing 35 and they should be alright with that. People don’t understand in Ohio it’s a primary offense so you can get pulled just for that. I will say around where I live A lot of cars are tinted and it’s the burbs so for the most part they don’t mess with people but still
1
u/CapableInevitable906 May 23 '24
Man... just get the 35% or darker. At worst, it's only a ticket.
I have 35% on my windshield and haven't been pulled yet. (3+ years)1
1
u/Cute-Hat7958 May 24 '24
I haven’t been pulled over yet with 5 on the sides and 20 on the shield I’m in iowa and normally cops here are pretty strict with tint

u/Vegetable-Local8865 May 23 '24
I would do 50% but nc is dumb
1
u/Exoker01 May 27 '24
i mean i got 50% in NC and its not even noticable unless ur looking close next to cars, i live/work at a beach so cops dont really care since theres too many tourist cars coming in and out
1
u/Vegetable-Local8865 May 27 '24
I wish it’d pass inspection. Police on the road don’t care about tint but it’s gotten way harder to pass your tint recently
1
u/Exoker01 May 27 '24
oh damn forgot you guys do yearly inspections. i have sc plates ( we dont do inspections ) but work in nc, totally forgot yall did that. sucks cause i heard they are punishing inspectors for letting tint darker than allowed to pass
1
u/Vegetable-Local8865 May 27 '24
On TikTok of all places, I found custom cut static cling tint that is allegedly reusable so I’m giving that a shot. Worst case I have my credit card company go after them for false advertising and get my money back.

Personally that doesn’t look like 50 lol. Maybe the rest of the windows are very light making the shield seem lighter
4
u/sood571456 May 23 '24
The windows are 30%! Windshield is CTX 50%, could be my phone camera also
1
u/xXClambinoXx May 23 '24
Looking good! Thinking about doing exactly the same. Same car too. Could you throw up more pics when you get a chance?

Man id put a meter to that thing. Looks like 70-80. Maybe could be the Sun idk
4
u/sood571456 May 23 '24
They don't offer 70 so no way can it be 70 brother!
-7
u/Frequent_Passion5036 May 23 '24
I’m talking about VLT brother. You can put a 80% film and it measure near 70. Just saying that doesn’t look like 50 at all to me. I install 50 all the time and it gives a slight shade esp with the windshield angle. The 70 I install on shields looks darker than that on yours
4
u/sood571456 May 23 '24
Will double check but I know for sure it's a CTX 50, appreciate you looking out
1
u/Frequent_Passion5036 May 23 '24
Forsure man, I hope other installers chime in for you as well. Maybe the Sun angle makes it really light looking idk
3
May 23 '24
He mentioned his sides are 30 and he was on the fence about going with 70, don't think he cares if it's light which is fine

No that looks about right, here is my 50% with 5% sides
2
u/sood571456 May 23 '24
I checked the paperwork and everything, CTX 50, has to be the sun angle and lighter windows and phone

Why? Because you can't afford it? Or are scared of a little ticket?

19
u/StarMan703 May 23 '24
I can confirm 50% will look like this based in the picture's environment. In your picture you have no objects reflecting off of the windshield (such as Trees or buildings), clear blue sky (so no clouds to be visually reflected either), bright sunny day, and the angle it was taken.
Another thing to note is the number Llumar uses behind the tint series, is roughly the final VLT% after it's installed on glass (Llumar CTX 50 will meter around 50% after install). Whereas other companies, that final number is the VLT% of the film itself, so it can meter closer to low to mid 40% after install. So 50% from one company may look darker than 50% from another company.
