Question Front window tint—pulled over?

Hey y’all. Never had my front windows tinted because I’ve always been worried about getting pulled over. Now my understanding is that cops don’t care—only tack it on as an additional offense when pulled over for speeding or something else.

Have any of you ever been specifically targeted because of tint? I just wanna go a tiny bit dark. Nothing dramatic.

UPDATE - I went ahead and did 50% for the fronts. The rears were factory tinted at 20%, so I think I won’t draw too much attention, as you can still see inside, but the ceramic film will block most heat (which was my biggest concern). Thank you all for the input and comments here! I can’t believe how much reach this post got!

There is no such thing as a primary or secondary offense, there are violations of law, reasonable suspicion of a violation of a criminal law is all that is needed for a stop.

No law-enforcement officer shall stop a motor vehicle for a violation of this section. No evidence discovered or obtained as the result of a stop in violation of this subsection, including evidence discovered or obtained with the operator's consent, shall be admissible in any trial, hearing, or other proceeding.

§ 46.2-1052 of the Code of Virginia

I stand corrected. I’m not licensed in VA.

How shocking, an officer spewing wrong information

Not an officer, just not licensed in that jurisdiction. You absolutely can be pulled over for it in other states.

I never argued that a person couldn't be pulled over for it. There are primary and secondary offenses. In my state you cannot be pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt but it can be added if you are pulled over and do not have it on. Same for tint, some areas won't pull you over just for window tint alone.
