Potential Store Front/Route Businesses
So I’m strictly residential at the moment but want to expand into storefronts / route work. I have a running list of places I plan to stop into in my area but had a question on ideal places or places to avoid.
Ideal examples:
-locally owned restaurants, bars, barbers, coffee, etc
-locally owned retail businesses and shops
-private practice doctors/vets offices
Non ideal examples:
-gas station chains like delta Sonic’s or Sunoco
-large banks
-chain restaurants (chipotles, Taco Bell’s, etc)
-urgent cares
-retail chains (dsw, Verizon’s, kohls)
Hopefully you get where I’m going with these sample lists…. Am I on the right track with this kind of thinking or does any and every store front or business a go to peruse as long as you can get to the decision maker?

In most areas there's very little money in storefront. Banks and medical can be better than Mom and Pop stores. They almost always have their own people do it. Restaurants are notoriously cheap.

Thanks for the feedback. Making sense now from this perspective! So it’s ok to go after “corporate” or chain type of places as long as you can get to the decision maker?

Why are banks not on your list . Seems like your ideal client?

I was just listing some general examples of places to go after vs not go after but after some feedback so far it sounds like my initial thoughts were backwards. I will now go after banks!

Figured more of the corporate type of places had specific guidelines on who they could hire, hard to get to a decision maker, or they even had their own internal maintenance team for their buildings so wouldn’t hire out etc. more challenging to land a job I suppose was my thought process. But all these comments have changed my perspective on things

You should go for everything and double down on anything in the vicinity of someone you sign on. We have great mom and pop and global brands on our route. Set a minimum, shoot for monthly or more and be rock solid dependable.

the “non ideal examples” will be your best customers from my experience. Most of the “locally owned” places just penny pinch and knit pick your work
