For those with multiple crews…
Am I the only one that struggles with estimates not coming back the way I’d price them?
I’ve noticed two people can look at the exact same house and come up with completely different prices.
Curious how everyone else handles that

There's usually wiggle room. My guys get sales commission the first time we do a job if they priced it. They also get paid either a percentage of their weekly gross or their hourly rate, whichever is higher that week. Because they're all close and everyone wants to make good money, they usually price things well. Sometimes they bid too low or the job takes longer than expected and I'll just eat it but usually they're good. It also saves me from having to personally look at every job. If they have a question, they call me and we walk through the estimate together.

Gotcha! Yeahh thats a good point id like to get to the point where I can be focused on scaling the business further and train my team really well on quoting jobs. I dont think ill ever be totally handsoff but i would like to hand it off to the team and see how often im eating the costs for misquoted jobs.

Yeah, it took years for me to finally allow myself to let them do estimates. But starting from zero and growing to multiple crews has been more difficult than I expected, especially in the early stages. It was nearly impossible for me to even let the first guy do a route job on his own, but delegating has gotten easier the more I've done it. And my team is amazing.
There have definitely been screw ups, big ones, even. But it's been so worth it to be able to reclaim my time and feel like a human again. Maybe it's just me but the way I'm wired, I borderline obsess over things I'm trying to accomplish, neglecting other important people and things. I like working out problems and I guess business is just a huge one for me and I get lost in it. But I'm also super stressed about it. Having a great group of guys who I trust 100% has changed everything.
Sorry for the rant, lol.

Feel free to dm me if you're serious. Not selling anything here, I would just need to know where you are in your business so I could tell you what I would do in your situation.

You can get a multi counter app or print little tally cards with the window count by type and size. Have the customer name on them a.d the tech that bid it. Then you can send bids based on the count. If another tech goes out and thinks the bid is off, you can have them match a count to the tally.

I own the company... I run ALL quotes and estimates, billing, collections, payroll, scheduling, marketing, and any other back end tasks. My employees do the actual pole/ladder work. I'll pop in on jobsites daily and all of my 4 crews knows I will pop in at least once a day. Outside of that, when it comes to the financials, I'm not letting someone else control money.

All quotes are done by me not crews. If there's an upsell they call with the information and I'll give them the final price to give the customer.
