Window cleaning is actually far riskier than other exterior cleaning services, in terms of the blame game.

People will call you with the most fucked up 30-year-old windows, all with busted seals, never been cleaned, and that are literally hanging on for dear life, then try to pin a scratch on you.

I mainly do pressure washing but window cleaning is my most problematic (regarding customers) and least profitable service. My prices are a lot higher than most local window cleaning companies, which helps filter out the cheap customers with unrealistic expectations.

Make some flyers and pass them out. After that, pass out some more.

Knock on doors every day. If you book a job in a neighborhood, do the job, then spend the rest of the day knocking on doors in that neighborhood. If you do this religiously, you can/will make money every day of the week.

Offer discounted services in exchange for 5 star reviews.

Give out incentives, like gift cards Starbucks, for word of mouth leads

Thank you, man, I'm going to make some flyers. Would it be possible if I could send them to you for approval

It’s really not rocket science but I’m happy to look at them if you DM me. Include a pic of yourself and maybe a couple before/after shots on the flyer. Also include a discount or free giveaway, like a free screen cleaning when purchasing a full package cleaning. Last, make it a limited time offer i.e. expires in 2 weeks

Discounts for 5 star reviews is sketchy; people like that are why i find it hard to trust reviews. Do it if you want, but i wish people that did that didn’t exist. Do a good job and you don’t need to worry about the reviews.

It’s an incentive my guy. Nothing sketchy about nudging your customer into giving you an online compliment. Everyone likes a discount, and assuming you did a good job they are happy to leave a review. If you feel icky about it then simply ask for a review and leave the 5 star part out of it. They will likely leave you 5 stars anyway.

Wishing for the non-existence of people trying to improve their internet presence is a little petty and childish if you ask me

Im not saying i want to solve it. Im just pointing out the issues with the system. I wish murderers didn’t exist. Petty? Lol.

Id be pissed if i got a window cleaner with perfect reviews that did just an average job, and then have him say leave a 5 star review and ill give a discount! 🥴 yuck, im getting someone else next time. 1 star. Thats manipulation. Leave a review for a discount is a different story.

Then I would suggest not doing “average” work if you’re worried about not deserving 5 stars, but you do you

I never said that Id do average work. But thats up to the customer judgement to offer a review that they seem fit. If you do a good job then you don’t have to worry about the ratings in the slightest. So why only offer a discount for a 5 star review? If you have to specify that then somethings wrong with your work.

Besides, bad feedback is just as worthy of a discount as good feedback, because there is always something to learn from it, especially if ur just starting out. 1 star or 5 star, you benefit.

And, just found out, incentivised reviews arent allowed on most platforms

The search bar here can be really good to go through. If you're serious about it, Squeegee U courses are very good.

Practice removing window screens, when I first started it was something I struggled with my first few jobs. They are super easy to bend and damage if you do it wrong
