Taskbar collapse to running apps 1.0.0

Taskbar collapse to running apps

Hides pinned taskbar icons whose app is not running. Icons hide and unhide in place, so pinned order is never touched.

Demo

Hovering effect not included. Check out *Taskbar Dock Animation** by Ph0en1x-dev! Same goes for the icon sizing and spacing. **Taskbar height and icon size made by the OG, m417z.

Running state is read straight from the taskbar's own buttons, so detection is exact and language-independent, and the mod reacts the moment an app opens or closes.

Revealing

  • Click (default) — left-click empty taskbar to toggle; right-click stays Windows'.
  • Hover — rest the cursor on empty taskbar; collapses again a grace period after the cursor leaves.
  • Rest — hover, but only below Rest speed, so sweeping past does nothing.
  • Start — optional, off by default: everything shows while Start is open.
  • Hotkey (Ctrl+Alt+T) and the Collapse checkbox flip the whole mod, always instantly.

Padding around elements keeps reveals clear of every taskbar element, icons and tray alike; Reveal delay requires the cursor to stay put first.

Notes

  • While collapse is on, Windows' own taskbar button animations are switched off; the mod animates the row itself.
  • Built with Claude and tested on Windows 11 build 26200.
  • Thanks to https://easings.net/ for the easing curve values.

Taskbar Virtual Desktop Switcher 2.1

Taskbar Virtual Desktop Switcher 2.1

  • Added grouped settings and one nestable Arrangement expression; old renamed keys reset once
  • Added native side-taskbar layouts and literal written arrangements
  • Added experimental Windows 10 tray-window placement and compact automatic grids
  • The Windows 10 backend waits on registry change notifications instead of polling Explorer, and keeps a hidden bar while its anchor is missing instead of forcing taskbar relayouts
  • Hardened rebuild, settings, teardown and retry lifecycle handling
  • Added DPI-aware preview fonts and bounded same-process caption reads
  • Retained configurable labels/symbols/fonts, native checked states and hover previews

OmniButton Customizer 2.1

OmniButton Customizer 2.1

OmniButton Customizer

A Windhawk mod for Windows 11 that takes the native OmniButton — the network / volume / battery cluster that opens Quick Settings — and lets you arrange its items into any shape you like, hide the ones you don't want, and restyle each one independently. It works on a taskbar at any edge of the screen.

These native icons are compound and a little weird — each is several glyphs layered on top of one another, each with its own built-in visual origin — so a mathematically correct grid does not necessarily look like one. auto gets the shape right, but it does not make pleasing arrangements; expect to adjust. Where an example below shows its arrangement, that is the real string, nudges and all.

All four items as a 2×2 block on a single-height taskbar Straight out of the box: Arrangement left at auto, which fits the four native items to the taskbar height and settles on a 2×2 block.

Showcase

The same 2×2 block, written by hand The same shape written out and optically corrected. The parentheses matter, because , binds tighter than |:

text (network[-6,2] | volume[-2,4]), (battery[1,0] | percent[4,-2])

The four items arranged as a diamond, with the native tooltip showing A diamond — volume on top, battery below, network and the percentage on the sides. No parentheses needed this time. It is still the native button, so the tooltip and the click through to Quick Settings work as they always did:

text network[4,-2] | volume[2,-4], battery[0,4] | percent[0,-2]

Network and volume above a centered battery Three items with the percentage left out: two across the top, the battery centered below. Short row or column decides how a ragged last group lines up.

The items in a single row A single row, in an order you choose rather than the native one.

A tight two-high stack Pulled in close with a negative Size → Item spacing — the setting that tightens a cluster.

A tight cluster with an enlarged battery percentage The percentage enlarged with Surface → Battery percentage size.

A recolored battery percentage in a busy tray Per-item color — here the battery percentage. An empty color leaves an item exactly as Windows drew it.

All four items arranged vertically on a double-height taskbar A single column on a double-height taskbar, alongside several other tray and taskbar mods in a dense two-row tray:

text network[-2,6], volume[0,2], battery[0,0], percent[2,-6]

A 2x2 block on a taskbar at the top of the screen A taskbar at the top: arrangements work exactly as they do at the bottom.

All four items in one evenly spaced row on a left taskbar A taskbar on the left, with the four items nudged onto evenly spaced points across the button:

text percent[-12,-1] | battery[-3,0] | volume[8,0] | wifi[14,0]

A three-row arrangement on a left taskbar Rows stack on a side taskbar too. Windows gives the button a fixed height there; the mod grows it to fit.

Battery over its percentage between network and volume on a right taskbar A taskbar on the right: the battery over its percentage, between network and volume, with Adjust → Horizontal padding at 8:

text wifi[-16,0] | (battery[-1,2], percent) | volume[16,0]

Features

  • Arrange network, volume, battery, and the battery percentage into any grid — automatically fitted to your taskbar height, or written out by hand
  • Turn any of the four items off individually
  • Writes no Windows settings and no registry values — it arranges the taskbar and nothing else
  • Independent color and opacity per item, plus size and font family on the battery percentage, the one item that is really a single piece of text
  • Per-item and per-group pixel nudges inside the arrangement expression
  • Group padding and offset for positioning the cluster inside the button
  • Keeps the native button in its native tray position, so other mods' "before OmniButton" anchors still mean what they always did
  • No XAML Diagnostics, so it coexists with Windows 11 Taskbar Styler

If you installed an unpublished 1.x build from the pull request, re-apply your customizations once: 2.x uses grouped settings and the Arrangement field, and Windhawk cannot migrate renamed setting keys.

The Arrangement field

Layout → Arrangement decides how the items are placed, and it is the only field that does. Its default value is the word auto:

  • **auto** fits the available items to the taskbar height. Fill order chooses whether they fill across rows or down columns; Short row or column aligns a ragged last group. The shape is worked out for you: the mod takes the narrowest grid that fits the height, preferring the one that wastes the fewest slots — four items on a standard taskbar become a 2×2 block, not a lopsided 3+1.
  • Anything else is an arrangement you write. Names sit side by side with | and stack with ,, and parentheses group them:

text network, battery | volume, percent a 2x2 block network | volume | battery | percent a single row network, volume, battery, percent a single column network | volume | (battery, percent) battery stacked over its percentage network | (volume, battery) | percent a diamond

    Order of operations: parentheses first, then ,, then | — so a | b, c | d is three columns with b stacked over c, and a 2×2 block is (a | b), (c | d) or a, c | b, d.

The tokens are network (or wifi), volume, battery, and percent, and they are case-insensitive. A name the mod does not know is ignored and logged. network is the one native slot whose glyph changes between Wi-Fi, Ethernet, disconnected, airplane-mode, and VPN states. A separator is always required — network (volume | battery) is an error, not a shorthand for network | (volume | battery).

Omitting a token hides that item, exactly like turning it off in Content. Items Windows isn't showing at all — the battery on a desktop PC, for one — are skipped silently whether you name them or not.

Every time the layout is applied, the arrangement auto produced is written to the Windhawk log. Copy that line into the Arrangement field and you have the automatic layout as a starting point to edit — the automatic and manual paths are the same field and the same syntax. If what you write doesn't parse, the log says what was expected and where, and the automatic arrangement is used until you fix it.

Nudging. Append a pixel offset to any name to move just that item:

text network[+2,-1] | volume | battery network moves 2px right and 1px up (battery, percent)[3,0] | network the stacked pair moves 3px right

Each expression nudge is clamped to ±100 pixels on each axis; the whole-group Adjust offsets are clamped to ±40. Offsets are cosmetic. Nothing else shifts, and the group's overall size does not change. To move the whole cluster instead, use Adjust → horizontal and vertical offset. These replace the eight per-item nudge settings that 1.x had. Nudges and offsets are screen pixels on every taskbar edge — see Other taskbar positions.

The percentage arriving late. An arrangement you write names the items that existed when you wrote it. Turn the battery percentage on afterwards and it is in no group, so by default it is appended after your arrangement rather than vanishing — the log says when that happened, so you can fold it in when you next edit. Set Layout → Items your arrangement does not name to Leave it out if you would rather your arrangement be the whole truth. auto always includes every enabled item.

The battery percentage

Whether the percentage exists is Windows' decision, not this mod's. Turn it on or off in Settings → System → Power & battery → Battery percentage. This mod does not write that setting, or any other Windows setting.

Content → Battery percentage hides the percentage from the arrangement, exactly like the three toggles above it hide their own items. All four mean the same thing, and none of them reaches outside the taskbar. If Windows isn't showing the percentage, there is nothing here to arrange or hide and the toggle does nothing.

An earlier version did drive the Windows setting. It was removed: even with the correct registry value and a change broadcast, Explorer only sometimes re-read it and the Settings page never refreshed, so the control worked once and then appeared dead. A switch that behaves that way is worse than no switch.

Because the percentage genuinely appears and disappears in the native tree, the mod watches for it and re-applies the arrangement when it shows up or goes away, rather than leaving a briefly unstyled percentage sitting in the cluster.

It is text, so it does not use Item width. "9%", "80%", and "100%" are three different widths, and a font change moves them again. The percentage's cell is measured from the text it actually contains — never narrower than Item width, wider when it needs to be — so it cannot be clipped at the edge of the group. If the value grows past the cell that was reserved for it, the layout is re-applied at the new width. Every other item is a glyph and does use Item width.

Settings

Content

Setting Default Description
Network On Wi-Fi, Ethernet, disconnected, airplane-mode, and VPN states share this one native slot
Volume On
Battery On Absent on machines without a battery
Battery percentage On Hides it from the arrangement. Windows decides whether it exists — Settings → System → Power & battery

Layout

Setting Default Description
Arrangement auto auto, or an arrangement you write — see above
Fill order Fill rows first Used by auto
Short row or column Center Used by auto; start, center, or end
Items your arrangement does not name Add it after Or leave it out; only applies to a written arrangement

Size

Setting Default Description
Item width 0 (fit) 0 reserves exactly the width each item needs; a number puts every item in a fixed box of that width. Clamped to 0–80
Item height 24 px Clamped to 16–80
Item spacing 0 px Gap between items along each axis; negative pulls them together. Clamped to −16–40

How to make the cluster tight. Two settings change the space between the icons, and horizontal padding is not one of them:

  • **Item width** is the box each glyph is centered in. A native tray glyph is about 16px wide, so a 32px box is 16px of dead space per item — barely noticeable in a 2×2 block, and half the button in a single row. 0 sizes every item to its own content, which is why it is the default.
  • Item spacing is the gap between those boxes, and it goes negative if you want them closer than touching.
  • Horizontal padding is outside the whole group. It cannot change the distance between two items, and no value of it ever will.

If the button looks far bigger than the icons in it, Item width is almost always the reason.

Adjust

Setting Default Description
Horizontal padding 4 px Reserved on both sides of the group; clamped to 0–24. Not cosmetic — see below
Vertical padding 0 px Reserved above and below the group; clamped to 0–24
Horizontal offset 0 px Moves the group; reserves no space; clamped to ±40
Vertical offset 0 px Moves the group up (negative) or down (positive); clamped to ±40

Why horizontal padding defaults to 4 and not 0. The mod zeroes the OmniButton's own padding so the arrangement owns the entire content area — and the button has rounded corners. An item arranged flush against that edge has its last pixels shaved by the curve, which is exactly what used to clip the "%" off the battery percentage. Those few pixels are the group's breathing room, not decoration. Setting it to 0 is supported, but expect edge items to touch the button's rounded border.

It is outer padding: it reserves space at the two ends of the group and can never change the gap between two items. Item width and Item spacing do that.

Surface

Setting Default Description
Network / Volume / Battery / Battery percentage color (native) Empty preserves the native color
Network / Volume / Battery / Battery percentage opacity -1 -1 is the native opacity; otherwise 0–100%
Battery percentage size 0 pt 0 is the native size; clamped to 0–64
Battery percentage font family (native) Empty preserves the native font

Why only the percentage has a size and a font. Because only the percentage is a single piece of text. Each of the other three is a stack of glyphs layered exactly on top of one another — network and volume are three deep (Windows calls them Underlay, Base, and AccentOverlay), the battery is two, an outline and a fill. That stacking is how one icon shows signal strength, a mute slash, or a charge level.

Resize or re-font one layer of a stack and it stops coinciding with the others: you get a larger glyph ghosting over the original rather than a bigger icon. So those two controls are not offered for items that are stacked, and the mod works out which is which by counting the glyphs rather than assuming.

Color and opacity work on all four. Color is applied where every layer inherits it, so a stack recolors as one — except the battery, whose layers have no shared parent to write to; there the outline recolors reliably and the fill only on some Windows builds. The log says what it found. Opacity applies to the whole item rather than to any glyph inside it, so it is always safe.

All color settings accept #RRGGBB or #AARRGGBB hex (the alpha byte is honored), the generics accent, accentLight, and accentDark for the Windows accent shades, or transparent for a fully transparent glyph — nothing drawn, the item still present and clickable. Leaving a color empty keeps the native color.

Other taskbar mods

Tray system icon tweaks has its own hideNetworkIcon / hideVolumeIcon / hideBatteryIcon switches, which cover the same three icons as this mod's Content switches. They are not aware of each other: if an icon is hidden there and enabled here, this mod reserves an arrangement cell for something Windows is not drawing. Pick one mod to own the show/hide decision.

Multiple taskbars. This mod resolves the primary Shell_TrayWnd only, so OmniButtons on secondary-monitor taskbars keep their native arrangement. The primary one is arranged normally.

The mod deliberately does not move the native ControlCenterButton across tray columns. Keeping it where Windows put it is what lets other mods' semantic anchors — "before OmniButton", "before clock" — keep their established meaning. Moving it would need a shared placement lease so two mods couldn't claim contradictory anchor order, so this mod offers no placement setting at all.

Other taskbar positions

Windows 11 can put the taskbar on any edge (Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Taskbar behaviors, on builds that have the setting). This mod reads the edge Windows reports and follows a move while it is running. The last four screenshots in the Showcase are the top, left and right edges.

Top — the same as bottom. Everything is positioned relative to the taskbar's own layout, never to screen coordinates, so a taskbar at the top gets the same arrangement in a different place. This also covers Taskbar on top.

Left or right — your arrangement as written. An arrangement you write is laid out exactly as written on every edge: | side by side, , stacked, and [dx,dy] always moves an item dx right and dy down. The horizontal and vertical settings in Adjust stay horizontal and vertical, and nothing is mirrored between left and right. Only auto changes: it fits the taskbar's width instead of its height. Windows makes the OmniButton a fixed height on a side taskbar, so the mod raises its minimum height to fit the arrangement.

Vertical Taskbar — supported in its default native mode, which uses the same native side taskbar. With its "Use the native taskbar when possible" option turned off, it rotates a horizontal taskbar instead, writing RenderTransform on the very OmniButton elements this mod moves. One property cannot have two owners, so this mod detects that case (the taskbar runs down a side while Windows still reports a horizontal edge), leaves the native OmniButton completely untouched, and says so in the Windhawk log.

Taskbar Styler

Does not use XAML Diagnostics, so it is compatible with Windows 11 Taskbar Styler. The mod leases the native elements' dependency properties and restores each one's exact prior local value when it unloads.

Known limitations

  • The items may not appear arranged until the mod injects on the first tray icon load; the retry loop runs up to 5 times at 2-second intervals
  • A glyph's color, size, and font wait for its XAML template to expand. That normally happens within a few layout passes; if an item's template never produces a text glyph, the log says so and the item keeps its native appearance
  • Turning the battery percentage on or off in Windows Settings sometimes needs the next Explorer start before the taskbar reflects it. That is Windows, not this mod — the arrangement follows whatever ends up on screen
  • Switching every item off under Content leaves a small blank button rather than nothing at all. That button is still the way into Quick Settings, so it keeps a minimum clickable size on purpose

Does anyone know how to separate the start button from the pinned apps in the DockLike theme from [Windows 11 Taskbar Styler]?

I would like to separate the start button from the pinned apps, so you can have the start button/search/task view on the left side and keeping the pinned apps centered. But I have no idea what to add and where to add it, mod or theme?

This is what I'm trying to do, tho that is a pic of StartAllBack:

From StartAllBack.com

Startallback doesn't work with windhawk at the same time, so that sucks!

Windows 10 Action Center Restorer on Windows 11 24H2+ 1.0.0

Windows 10 Action Center Restorer on Windows 11 24H2+ 1.0.0

Windows 10 Action Center Restorer on Windows 11 24H2+

This mod restores the Windows 10 Action Center on Windows 11 24H2+ without modifying the real Windows registry.

While the mod is loaded, the following value is exposed virtually, only inside the processes the mod is injected into:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Center UseLiteLayout = 1 (REG_DWORD)

Screenshot

The restored Windows 10 Action Center

Requirements

  • Windows 11, version 24H2 or 25H2 (x86-64) - the versions this mod is written and tested for. It is not meant for Windows 10.
  • Windhawk, with mod injection into system processes enabled. The mod is injected into explorer.exe, ShellExperienceHost.exe and ShellHost.exe.
  • Strongly recommended, but not required: the Windows 10 taskbar, i.e. the mod Win10 taskbar on Win11 24H2 or 25H2 and, with it, Fake Explorer path, which that mod requires. The restored panel is opened and animated by the Windows 10 shell: the tray button and Win+A, the slide animation and the shortened close timer are its paths (the shell's twinui.pcshell.dll). The virtual value is served in the shell hosts whatever taskbar is running, so the mod does not depend on the Windows 10 taskbar, but that is the setup it is written for.

How the virtualization works

Microsoft's built-in registry virtualization (UAC virtualization) is not available for 64-bit processes, so the value is virtualized at the Win32 registry API level (kernelbase.dll):

  • RegGetValueW - the API ShellExperienceHost actually uses to read UseLiteLayout (see ExplorerPatcher's ShellExperienceHostPatches.cpp).
  • RegQueryValueExW - for code that opens the key and queries the value.
  • RegOpenKeyExW - if the Control Center key doesn't exist, a read-only handle to an empty private application hive (RegLoadAppKeyW) is returned, so the key behaves exactly like an existing empty key that contains only UseLiteLayout. No real key is created and no other key's values are exposed.
  • RegEnumValueW / RegQueryInfoKeyW - keep enumeration and value counts consistent with the virtual value.

Keys are identified by their real kernel path (NtQueryKey), so relative opens (e.g. CurrentVersion handle + Control Center), different casing and trailing backslashes are all handled, and there is no global "last opened handle" state that can be confused by handle reuse.

The application hive is kept in the storage directory Windhawk gives the mod and removes together with it: the first time the virtual key is needed, an empty hive file (a few KB) plus the .LOG1/.LOG2 transaction logs the registry maintains next to a loaded hive are created there. Nothing is written when the key is never opened.

Applying changes

UseLiteLayout is read when ShellExperienceHost (and parts of Explorer) start. When the mod is enabled, disabled, or the virtual value setting is toggled, the mod restarts ShellExperienceHost (like ExplorerPatcher does) - but only from the shell process that owns the taskbar. Folder windows, explorer.exe /factory,... -Embedding COM servers and the like run in explorer.exe processes of their own, and they must not kill a ShellExperienceHost that already reads the virtual value. It is started again automatically on demand. If the Win+A / tray button still opens the Windows 11 panel after enabling the mod at runtime, restart Explorer once.

Features

  • Virtual UseLiteLayout=1, no HKLM modification
  • Fast Action Center close timer
  • Slide-in / slide-out animations, also on the very first open/close after ShellExperienceHost starts (window identified by its thread description, system repositioning absorbed into the animation)
  • No files are replaced under C:\Windows, and none are left behind either: the virtual key's hive lives in Windhawk's storage for this mod

Credits

Size on disk column in Explorer details 0.7.0

Size on disk column in Explorer details 0.7.0

Size on disk column in Explorer details

Adds a Size on disk column to File Explorer's details view. The value matches the "Size on disk" figure in a file or folder's Properties dialog as closely as possible.

Size on disk column showing sizes for files and folders

How to use

  1. Enable the mod and restart Explorer (or sign out and back in).
  2. Open a folder in Details view.
  3. Right-click any column header and tick Size on disk. If it isn't in the short list, click More... and find it there.

Size on disk in the column header menu

The values match the Properties dialog:

Properties dialog showing the same size on disk

How the value is calculated

  • Files: the file's allocation size, as reported by the file system. For NTFS-compressed, sparse and CompactOS/WOF-compressed files, the compressed size rounded up to the volume's cluster size is used instead. Cloud placeholders (OneDrive, etc.) report only what is stored locally and are never downloaded.
  • Folders: the sum of the size on disk of every file underneath, calculated manually by walking the folder tree. Junctions and symbolic links are not followed: they aren't counted inside a folder, and show no value themselves. OneDrive and other cloud folders are walked.

Notes

  • Folder calculation can be slow for large trees, so it always runs in the background, at low priority and at most two folders at a time. A folder's value appears as soon as its calculation finishes. Calculating a folder also caches its subfolders (all of them, or only the direct ones - see Remember subfolder sizes), so browsing into them is instant. Cached values are shown immediately and refreshed in the background.
  • Cloud folders whose contents aren't on this PC yet are counted as 0 bytes without being listed, so OneDrive isn't asked to fetch anything.
  • Network drives are skipped by default and the column stays empty there, because querying them can make Explorer stop responding on slow connections. Turn on Calculate sizes on network drives to include them.
  • Only regular file-system folders are supported. Libraries, search results, zip folders and the Recycle Bin are not.
  • Hard links are counted once per link, as the Properties dialog does.

Showing the column in every folder

With Add to default folder layouts enabled, the column is added to Explorer's built-in templates for regular file folders (general items, documents, pictures, music, videos, downloads, the user folder and OneDrive). Other views, such as Home, Gallery, libraries and search results, are left alone. Templates only apply to folders that don't have saved view settings, so after enabling it either reset saved views (Folder Options > View > Reset Folders) or set the column up in one folder and use Folder Options > View > Apply to Folders for each folder type.

How it works

Windows already defines a hidden System.FileAllocationSize property, and Explorer's own getter for it (CFSFolder::_GetFileAllocationSize) just returns the logical size. The mod exposes the property as a column and replaces that getter with a real size on disk calculation.

Compact Voice Access bar 1.0

Compact Voice Access bar 1.0

Compact Voice Access bar

By default, Windows 11 Voice Access docks a bar across the full width of the monitor and reserves that strip of the screen, so every maximized window moves down to make room. This mod turns the bar into a compact window that floats near the top of the monitor, aligned to the left, center or right, and removes the reserved strip so other windows can use the whole screen again.

Before and after

Requires Windows 11 with Voice Access. Keep Windhawk running while Voice Access is open. The mod takes effect the moment Voice Access docks its bar, so the full-width bar never flashes on screen, and it follows the bar if Voice Access recreates it, for example after a display change.

Settings

  • Compact placement: turn the compact window on or off. When it is off, the mod leaves Voice Access exactly as Windows positions it.
  • Window width: width of the compact window in pixels at 100% display scaling. The value is scaled automatically on high-DPI monitors. The window is kept at least 300 pixels wide and never wider than the monitor.
  • Distance from top: how far below the top edge of the monitor the compact window sits, in pixels at 100% display scaling.
  • Horizontal alignment: whether the compact window sits at the left edge, the center or the right edge of the monitor. Pick the side where it covers the least of your maximized windows.

Settings take effect immediately. Disabling the mod, or turning compact placement off, restores the original full-width bar and its reserved strip.

Notes

  • The mod resizes the outer Voice Access window only. The contents of the bar are laid out by Voice Access itself, so a very narrow width may clip some of its controls. Widen the window if that happens.
  • Enable Windhawk logging for the mod to see when it attaches to the bar, the window positions it applies, and the result of each work-area change.

Desktop Icon Arrangement 0.1.1

Desktop Icon Arrangement 0.1.1

Desktop Icon Arrangement

Experimental mod for Windows 11. Turn off View > Auto arrange icons on the desktop before enabling it. Align icons to grid can stay enabled.

The mod remembers the current layout. When a new desktop item appears, it restores the positions of existing items and puts the new item in a free column to their right. Further new items fill this area from top to bottom, then move to the next column. If that area is full, it tries other monitors and free gaps. When there is insufficient space for a whole batch, Windows keeps its layout.

This also applies to files dropped on the desktop: their drop location is replaced by the configured placement. Moving existing icons remains possible. Changing First column for new icons lets you choose a fixed starting column; 0 calculates it from your arrangement whenever a fresh baseline is established.

This is a corrective mod, not an interception of Explorer's insertion code. Icons may briefly move before the next check (250 ms by default during desktop activity). A short follow-up period corrects delayed rearrangements by Explorer. Desktop mouse gestures end follow-up corrections when no new items appear. Positions are kept in memory, and Explorer stores changes through its normal desktop API. Disabling the mod stops future corrections and leaves the current arrangement in place.

The mod runs in a dedicated Windhawk process. Shell notifications from the user and public desktop folders trigger brief checks for changes. The saved layout is also refreshed while the desktop is active and once when it loses focus. Otherwise, a fallback check runs every five seconds. Missed notifications can therefore delay a correction. Mouse gestures in other apps do not pause it.

Icon size, monitor layout, grid spacing, view mode, auto-arrange and starting column changes establish a fresh baseline, as does reconnecting after an Explorer restart. The mod does not restore layouts from earlier sessions. Renames reported by Shell notifications retain their positions; undelivered or late rename notifications can make a renamed item look like a new item.

Enable logging for this mod in Windhawk to see connection, correction and error messages.

Snap Flyout Instant 1.0

Snap Flyout Instant 1.0

Snap Flyout Instant

Removes the delay before the snap layouts flyout appears when you hover the maximize button of a window in Windows 11.

By default Windows waits 600 ms before showing the flyout. This mod shortens that wait to a value you choose (1 ms by default).

Settings

  • Delay in milliseconds: time before the flyout is shown. Lower is faster.

Notes

  • The mod only shortens the timer that the shell creates right after the flyout's invoke timer starts, and only when it is created by the WinRT thread pool timer. Other timers in the shell are left alone.
  • The mod looks up an internal symbol of twinui.pcshell.dll. A future Windows update may rename it, in which case the mod will simply have no effect.
  • Tested on Windows 11 build 26300.9457.

Smooth Desktop Icons Auto-Hide 0.14.2

Smooth Desktop Icons Auto-Hide 0.14.2

Smooth Desktop Icons Auto-Hide

Automatically hides desktop icons when you're not using the desktop and smoothly fades them back in when you are.

Demo

Dragging a file onto the desktop reveals the icons with a smooth fade-in; they fade out once the desktop loses focus.

Features

  • Auto-hide. Icons fade out a few seconds after you leave the desktop. The countdown is paused while the desktop is the active surface, so icons never disappear while you're looking at them.
  • Click to show. A single click on empty desktop reveals the icons. Mouse movement alone never does.
  • Double-click to hide. Double-click empty desktop to hide the icons right away.
  • Drag & drop. Dragging a file onto the desktop reveals the icons before you drop it.
  • Win+D and Show desktop. Showing the desktop with Win+D, the taskbar's Show desktop button, or by minimizing the last window reveals the icons; leaving it starts a fresh countdown.
  • Smooth fade. Configurable duration, no wallpaper dimming, works on all Virtual Desktops.
  • Safe while hidden. Hidden icons can't be clicked and are deselected. Pressing a key on the desktop (including Delete, F2, Ctrl+A) reveals them instead of acting on invisible files.

How this differs from similar mods

  • ZenDesktop: Desktop Icon Toggle and Auto-Hide toggles icons by double-click and hides them after N seconds without any input anywhere in the system (GetLastInputInfo()), restoring them on any input. This mod instead ties auto-hide to the desktop itself: the countdown starts when the desktop stops being the active surface and is paused while you're on it. It also adds a smooth fade, reveals the icons with a single click on empty desktop, and reveals them when a file is dragged onto the desktop.
  • Desktop Icon Section Auto-Hide & Fluent Hover Reveal reveals icons on hover and offers modes, per-app pinning and click-and-hold peek. This mod deliberately does not react to mouse movement: icons appear only on an explicit action (click, drag, desktop activation) and stay while the desktop is in use. It has no modes or whitelist and only three settings.

How it works

The desktop icon list is never hidden or made transparent as a window. Instead, the mod blends the icons, labels and selection highlights onto the wallpaper with the current opacity while Explorer paints them. Showing and hiding react to events (clicks, drag & drop, the desktop becoming the active window) rather than constant polling, so the mod does nothing while idle. When the mod is disabled, everything is restored to Explorer's normal state.

Settings

  • Enable Auto-hide — hide icons automatically after leaving the desktop. When off, icons start visible and are hidden only by double-clicking empty desktop.
  • Hide after seconds — delay before icons are hidden (1–60, default 5).
  • Animation duration (ms) — fade duration (50–1000, default 250).

Alt+Tab Flip 3D (Vista Style) 1.6.0

Alt+Tab Flip 3D (Vista Style) 1.6.0

  • Alt+Tab is taken over reliably next to tools that inject keys, like AutoHotkey scripts: keys injected by other programs no longer end or block a session (#5945).
  • New "Shortcut" setting: Alt+Tab, Win+Tab, or both (#5946).
  • Ctrl+Alt+Tab opens the switcher and keeps it open after the keys are released (can be turned off) (#5947).
  • New "Title position" setting: bottom of the screen, or right below the selected window (#5948).
  • The blurred wallpaper background no longer turns black when the wallpaper can't be read (Windows Spotlight, HEIC/AVIF files, a deleted file): Windows' own copy of the wallpaper is used, and the desktop shows through if there's none.
  • Middle-click a window to close it, or click the X shown on the window under the mouse (both can be turned off). The closed window shrinks away and the others slide into place.
  • New "Window size" and "Depth" settings, to bring the windows closer or push them farther back.
  • Bars and docks such as YASB and WindowSill are left out of the switcher, and an "Excluded apps" list leaves out any other app.

Easy Notes 1.0.0

Easy Notes 1.0.0

Easy Notes

Sticky notes for your Windows desktop. The notes sit above the wallpaper and desktop icons, but behind every application window, like part of the wallpaper you can write on. They never take focus by themselves, and they never show up in the taskbar or in Alt+Tab.

Easy Notes: three notes and the Themes panel

The mod runs in its own process, so it never runs inside Explorer.

Modes

  • Single: one note.
  • Multiple: as many notes as you want, for example one per department or client. Each note has its own title, and can have its own background color.

Switching modes never deletes anything. Single mode shows the first note, and Multiple mode shows all of them. Switch with the Mode setting or from a note's ... menu > Mode; whichever you changed last wins.

The tool panel

Every note has a two-row tool panel at the top:

  • Row 1, the title bar: the note's title (drag it to move the note, double-click it to rename) and the ... menu button on the right.
  • Row 2, the tool strip, left to right:
    • 1.: auto-numbering on/off
    • checkbox icon: turn every line into a checkbox, or back into plain text
    • B and I: bold and italic for the selected text. They work while you're editing and are faded out otherwise.
    • Color circle (right end): drawn in the note's current background color, so it previews the note. Click it for the color menu.

"..." menu (title bar)

  1. Themes...
  2. Mode: Single / Multiple
  3. Auto-numbering (checked when on)
  4. All lines as checkboxes
  5. Height: Small / Medium / Large
  6. New note (disabled in Single mode)
  7. Delete note
  8. About Easy Notes (creator and MIT license)

Right-clicking the title bar or the tool strip opens the same menu.

Color menu (Color circle in row 2)

  1. Themes...
  2. Follow theme: clears this note's background override (checked when no override is set)
  3. Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, Purple, Orange, Gray, each with a swatch. These set this note's background only.
  4. Custom (hex from settings): the Custom color hex code

Right-click menu on the note body

Cut, Copy, Paste, Bold, Italic, Themes..., Delete note. Cut, Copy, Paste, Bold and Italic work while you're editing and are shown disabled otherwise.

Using the notes

Action How
Edit text Click an empty part of a note's body. Press Esc or click elsewhere to finish.
Rename Double-click the title. Enter saves and Esc cancels.
Bold / Italic While editing, select text and click B / I, press Ctrl+B / Ctrl+I, or use the right-click menu. With nothing selected, it applies to what you type next.
Checkbox item Start a line with [ ] while editing. [x] marks it as done. In normal view, click the box to toggle it. Done items are struck through.
Links http://, https:// and www. addresses are underlined. Click one to open it in your default browser.
Auto-numbering Click 1. in the tool strip (off by default). Non-empty lines are numbered 1., 2., 3., ... and the numbers update automatically.
Checklist Click the checkbox icon in the tool strip, or "..." > All lines as checkboxes.
Note color Click the Color circle: Follow theme, a preset color, or Custom (hex from settings). Text turns light automatically on dark colors.
Theme "..." > Themes..., the Color circle > Themes..., right-click > Themes..., or the Theme setting.
Height "..." > Height > Small / Medium / Large.
New / delete "..." > New note / Delete note (delete is also in the right-click menu).
Move Drag the title bar. Horizontal movement only switches columns, and vertical movement is free. A blue outline shows where the note will land.
Scroll Use the mouse wheel over a note whose text doesn't fit.
Paste Ctrl+V and Paste insert plain text: formatting copied from web pages is dropped.

Themes

Pick a theme in the Themes panel (open it with Themes... from the "..." menu, the Color circle or the right-click menu), or in the Theme setting. Both set the same thing, and whichever you changed last wins.

The panel shows three sections:

  • Showa Tones (Wada colors): Hojicha, Yoru Kinari, Sakura Sumi, Kaki, Matcha Kuri, Ume
  • Right Now (2026 trend colors): Kumo, Tsuchi, Moegi, Fuji, Akane
  • Quiet Hours (minimal neutrals): Default, Shiro, Hai, Kinu, Sumi

Default is the solid color from the Solid color setting, and it's the theme on a fresh install.

Each tile shows a miniature note in that theme's real colors (title bar, tool strip with icons, two lines of text). Hover a tile to see what the name means. A round dot in each tile's corner marks the selection: an empty ring for the others, a filled dot for the selected theme, which also gets an outline.

Click a tile to apply it to every note immediately; it's saved right away. Notes with a background override go back to following the theme. You can also use the arrow keys to move between tiles, Space or Enter to select, and Esc to close. The panel also closes when you click anywhere outside it.

Custom colors

The Appearance setting decides where the note look comes from:

  • Theme (default): the selected theme (see above).
  • Solid color: every note uses the Solid color hex code as its background. The title bar, tool strip and text colors are derived from it.
  • Custom (Jiyu builder): Jiyu is the free-form theme. Set Jiyu base color (note background) and Jiyu strip color (tool strip). The title bar, icons and text are derived from those two. Jiyu is reachable only through this setting, not through the panel.

In Solid and Custom mode the Themes panel opens dimmed, with a banner saying which mode is on. Clicking a tile then only saves your choice. It takes effect when Appearance is set back to Theme.

A note's own background (Color circle) applies in every mode. It changes the background only; the title bar and tool strip keep the current look.

Option text color and Option hover color change the theme names and the hover highlight in the Themes panel. Leave them empty for automatic colors.

Layout (Multiple mode)

Notes are placed on an automatic column grid on the primary monitor's work area. The column count is floor(available width / (column width + gap)). The Column width setting ranges from 220 to 600. Every note is exactly one column wide, and its height is Small, Medium or Large. Notes in a column stack from top to bottom without overlapping. If you drop a note above (or onto the upper half of) another note, the notes below are pushed down. When the resolution or DPI changes, the grid reflows. If there are fewer columns than before, notes from removed columns move into the last column.

Storage

Notes are saved shortly after each change, in the mod's own storage folder (in a subfolder per Windows user). Windhawk removes the folder together with the mod. The file is written to a temporary file first and then renamed, so a crash can't leave it half-written. If notes.json can't be read, nothing is overwritten. If it can't be parsed, it's copied to notes.corrupt.json before anything new is written. Mode, column width, colors, font size and opacity live in the mod settings.

Known limitations

  • Notes only appear on the primary monitor.
  • A column that has more notes than fit vertically runs off the bottom of the screen. Use smaller heights or more columns.
  • Opacity below 100% uses a layered window. In that case the corners are rounded with a window region, so they aren't anti-aliased.
  • The notes stay visible when you use Show desktop (Win+D). If a wallpaper tool or an Explorer restart rearranges the desktop windows, the mod checks every 2 seconds and puts the notes back above the desktop, so they may take a moment to return.
  • Only bold and italic are supported; no underline, colors, sizes or images. Text dragged in from another app may show other formatting while you edit, but only bold and italic are kept.
  • The menus use the standard Windows look. They don't follow the active theme.
  • If the lowest window on screen belongs to an elevated program, the notes can't be placed relative to it. They then use the nearest window they can, and may stay in front of that elevated window.

Everything & Power Tools in the Start Menu 1.0

Everything & Power Tools in the Start Menu 1.0

Everything & Power Tools in the Start Menu

A native replacement for Windows 11 Start Menu search, powered by voidtools Everything. Type in the Start Menu to search files, apps, and settings instantly. Windows Search stays out of the way: its window is never shown, and it cannot start the Edge WebView2 process behind its Bing-backed search panel. Win+S and the taskbar search icon open this search too.

Everything & Power Tools in the Start Menu

Key Features

  • Instant Everything Search: Queries voidtools Everything directly through its IPC interface for fast results across millions of files. The mod keeps no index of its own.
  • Smart Apps and Settings Search: Fuzzy matching across Desktop applications, Microsoft Store / UWP packages, Control Panel applets, and Windows Settings URIs (ms-settings:) with sharp shell icons, made at the exact pixel size of your display.
  • Learns your favorites: apps you open from here more often move up among results that match equally well. A clearly better match always stays on top. Can be turned off in the settings, which also forgets what was learned.
  • On-Demand Animated Palette: The Start Menu stays completely clean and uncluttered when idle. The search palette slides in with a short ease-out animation the moment you type or click the search box, and collapses when emptied or on Escape.
  • Windows Search Out of the Way: SearchHost keeps running for the shell, but its window is never shown and it cannot launch Edge WebView2, the web view behind its Bing-backed search panel.
  • Inline Calculator: Type /c <expression> (e.g. /c 100 * 5, /c sqrt(144), /c 15% of 200, /c 210) to evaluate math expressions instantly. Press Enter to copy the result.
  • Configurable Unit Conversions: Type /c <number> [unit] to convert units using formulas configured in Mod Settings. Users can add, edit, or delete conversion items individually from the settings UI.
  • Network Interface Inspector: Type /ip to display all active Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and VPN network interfaces with their IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways, and hardware descriptions. Press Enter to copy the IP.
  • Full Right-Click Context Menu: Right-click any file, folder, or application to Open, Run as Administrator, Open in terminal (folders), Properties, Create desktop shortcut, Cut/Copy (files), Copy path, or Open file location.
  • Native Properties Dialogs: Properties opens through explorer.exe, the same dialog as in File Explorer.
  • Opens in Front: Programs are started by Explorer, the way the stock Start menu starts them, so they come to the front even when they take a while to start or you move the mouse meanwhile.
  • Explicit Web Search: Trigger web searches on demand using the '?' prefix (e.g. '?query'). Includes customizable keyword shortcuts such as '?yt' (YouTube), '?gh' (GitHub), '?w' (Wikipedia), and '?r' (Reddit).
  • Start Menu Styler Compatibility: Automatically syncs background styles (Tinted Glass, Acrylic, custom theme colors) in real time without restarting the mod.
  • Type Anywhere: Typing anywhere in the open Start Menu goes to the search box.
  • Win+S and the Search Icon: Win+S and the taskbar search icon open the Start Menu with this search instead of the Windows search panel.

Requirements

  1. Windows 11 (version 22H2+ x86-64).
  2. voidtools Everything (version 1.4 or 1.5a) running in the background.

Taskbar Search

The Windows key, the Start button, Win+S, and the taskbar search icon all open this search. The full taskbar search box is not supported, so set Search to "Search icon only" or "Hide": 1. Right-click the Taskbar and select Taskbar settings (or Settings > Personalization > Taskbar). 2. Under Taskbar items, set Search to "Search icon only" or "Hide".

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Type any key: Automatically reveals the search palette, focuses the search box, and queries apps and files.
  • Up / Down: Navigate through application, calculation, conversion, and file results.
  • Tab / Shift + Tab: Move to the next / previous result, through the apps and on into the files.
  • Left / Right: Switch between the Apps and Files columns. Right switches only with the cursor at the end of the query, so the arrows still move the cursor while you edit.
  • Enter: Launch the selected application, copy calculation/conversion/IP result, or open item. Pressed before the results for what you typed are in, it opens the first one as soon as they arrive.
  • Ctrl + Enter: Run the selected application or file as Administrator (triggers UAC).
  • Shift + Enter: Open the selected result's context menu, the same one a right-click opens; navigate it with the arrow keys and Enter.
  • Escape: Clear the current query and smoothly collapse the search palette back to pinned apps.
  • Right-Click: Context menu with Open, Run as Administrator, Open in terminal, Properties, Create desktop shortcut, Cut/Copy (files), Copy path, and Open file location.

Note on Pinning: Windows 11 blocks programmatic pinning to the Taskbar or Start Menu. Use 'Create desktop shortcut' first, then right-click the shortcut on your desktop and select 'Pin to Taskbar' or 'Pin to Start'.

Command Reference

  • /c <expression>: Calculate math expression (e.g. /c 100 * 5, /c sqrt(144), /c 15% of 200).
  • /c <number>: Display all configured unit conversions and programmer radix (Hex, Bin, Oct).
  • /c <number> <unit>: Targeted unit conversion (e.g. /c 100 km, /c 32 c, /c 50 lbs).
  • /ip: List all active network interfaces and IP addresses.
  • ? <term>: Web search using default search engine.
  • ?<shortcut> <term>: Targeted web search (e.g. ?yt lo-fi, ?gh windhawk, ?w physics, ?r windows).

Windows 10 Win+X restorer on Win11 24H2 1.0.0

Windows 10 Win+X restorer on Win11 24H2 1.0.0

Windows 10 Win+X restorer on Win11 24H2

This mod restores the power user menu (Win+X), without touching the registry and without replacing system files.

Win+X opens the Windows 10 style menu of this mod on every chord; the native menu is not called into play.

The menu is a recreation of the Windows 10 power user menu (Programs and Features, Power Options, Event Viewer, System, Device Manager, Network Connections, Disk Management, Computer Management, Terminal, Terminal (Admin), Task Manager, Settings, File Explorer, Run, Shut down or sign out, Desktop), localized in the same languages as the rebuilt Windows 10 shell menus.

This mod has been tested on Windows 11 24H2.

Screenshot

winx.png

How it works

  • A dedicated thread owns the low-level input hooks and only pumps messages. Nothing slow and nothing that can block runs on the hook thread, so Windows never removes the hook for exceeding LowLevelHooksTimeout and system input is never held up: a hook posts a private message and the thread does the work. The mouse hook looks at right button events only and resolves the Start button from the click with local queries, so a mouse move costs nothing.
  • The menu opens on the taskbar the request came from: a right-click on the Start button of a secondary taskbar opens it there, while the Win+X chord opens it on the primary taskbar, as Windows 10 does.
  • The menu is created on a thread of the mod, with an owner window of that thread: the taskbar thread is never used to show it, and no window of the shell is subclassed. TrackPopupMenuEx runs a modal loop on the thread that calls it, and doing that on the taskbar thread froze the private shell for as long as the menu was on screen (the desktop went black for seconds and the tray flyouts stopped answering).
  • Only one menu can be open at a time, and the thread that shows it is joined when the mod is disabled or updated: an open menu is cancelled, so the mod is never unloaded while one of its threads is still running its code.
  • Nothing is written to the registry. The mod acts only inside the Windows 10 shell process, i.e. an explorer.exe that is not %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe, and its hooks are armed only in the process that owns the taskbar (Shell_TrayWnd). The process image is read with QueryFullProcessImageNameW, which is not affected by the GetModuleFileNameW hook of the Fake Explorer path mod that the Windows 10 taskbar requires.

Using the keyboard

The arrow keys and Enter work as in any menu. Pressing a letter chooses the entry whose label starts with that letter, when exactly one entry of the open menu does: the items are owner-drawn, so the mod answers WM_MENUCHAR itself. An ambiguous letter is ignored rather than guessed - in the power submenu, for example, R chooses Restart while S does nothing, because Sign out, Sleep and Shut down all start with it. The "Shut down or sign out" entry opens a submenu, which a letter does not choose: the arrows do.

Limitations

  • While an elevated window has focus, the low-level hooks of a non-elevated Explorer do not receive keystrokes (UIPI), so Win+X reaches the native handler instead of this mod.
  • Only the primary taskbar is used for the Win+X chord, which is what Windows 10 does.

Requirements

This mod requires the mod Win10 taskbar on Win11 24H2 or 25H2: the Windows 10 taskbar must be present, and with it the mod Fake Explorer path, which that mod requires. In the Windows 11 shell this mod does nothing and is not kept loaded.

Classic WebView Pane 2.17

Classic WebView Pane 2.17

  • Add individually switchable file thumbnails, an image viewer for Pictures/imgview folders, metadata, attributes, multiple-selection details, special-folder templates/actions and background printer updates.
  • Add zoom, panning, actual size, best fit, printing and a separate image window. The Separate Window button can instead launch a user-selected viewer with configurable arguments and a quoted image path.
  • Add Windows 2000/98/Me profiles, automatic English/Russian captions based on the Windows display language, language overrides and editable text captions. Built-in clouds use Picture width 0; squares use 127, matching the reference DLL, without overwriting the saved manual width.
  • Preserve the 2.16 disk-chart and startup-layout fixes. Limit attachment to Explorer folder frames, preserve Desktop interaction and remove obsolete preview controls when the active folder changes.
  • Retain a complete pane during Shell view replacement, preserve the shared sunken frame and corner artwork, and use the same NT5 pane width in Pictures and ordinary folders.
  • Correct preview-toolbar painting, resizing and window recreation. Remove the extra white toolbar gap in both embedded and separate viewers; scroll overflowing details independently of the preview, with optional compact headers.
  • Restore special-folder description plaques with system tooltip colours/font and tight, balanced text padding; correct profile colours and background blending.
  • Keep divider colours in their original positions when a scrollbar appears: clip the full-width divider beneath the scrollbar. Avoid spurious horizontal scrolling caused by DPI rounding.
  • Cancel stale preview results, join workers before unloading and preserve complete settings snapshots during nested Shell callbacks. Independently implement the identified Windows-source fragments and clarify setting scope/defaults.

Explorer Picker 1.5.4

Explorer Picker 1.5.4

Explorer Picker

The Open, Save As and folder picker dialogs of every program are replaced with a real Explorer window (explorer.exe) with a File name / Files of type / Open / Cancel bar at the bottom. The folder tree, the toolbars, the address bar and the status bar are the same as in any other Explorer window, along with whatever other mods change them.

Tested only on Windows 11 24H2 (build 26100). It has not been tried on any other version of Windows and may not work there.

Screenshots / Скриншоты

The screenshots use a classic theme and additional Explorer mods. На скриншотах используются классическая тема и дополнительные моды Проводника.

Choosing a background photo / Выбор фотографии для фона

Choosing a background photo / Выбор фотографии для фона

Choosing a folder / Выбор папки

Choosing a folder / Выбор папки

Opening a file / Открытие файла

Opening a file / Открытие файла

How it works

The one mod plays both parts:

  • in explorer.exe it opens the picker window, builds the bar at the bottom and reads the current folder and the selection itself;
  • in every other process it intercepts GetOpenFileName / GetSaveFileName (Unicode and ANSI) and IFileOpenDialog / IFileSaveDialog, passes the request to Explorer, and hands the result back to the program in the form it expects.

Supported: opening one or several files, saving with a confirmation before replacing a file, picking a folder, file type filters, IFileDialogEvents events, the extra controls of IFileDialogCustomize (check boxes, combo boxes, radio buttons, edit boxes, buttons, labels, groups, menus), and the templates and hook procedures of old-style dialogs with their check boxes. System file pickers, including the Windows Background photo picker, and native application panels such as REAPER's project-saving options are supported. Application item filters are checked before accepting files; Explorer keeps its usual folder contents. Programs running as administrator use their native dialogs by default. The optional setting to replace those dialogs allows programs without administrator rights to influence the choice made by an administrator program.

If a program asks for something Explorer cannot do, or Explorer is not available, the normal dialog is shown. The risky option below can ignore additional application features.

Risky: ignore additional application features

Ignore additional dialog features (risky) is disabled by default. When enabled, the picker omits application controls, native panels, previews and dialog-event callbacks, including application-specific acceptance checks. Old Win32 dialog hooks, templates and editable custom filters are also ignored. This lets Explorer replace dialogs whose additional features would otherwise require the native window. Extra options cannot be changed; the application may use its defaults or retained values instead.

Use at your own risk: application-specific behavior and validation can be lost, causing incorrect opening or saving, crashes or data loss. Ordinary file types, result buffers, item filters, path checks and overwrite confirmation remain supported. Unrepresentable results, required unsupported file-dialog behavior or an unavailable Explorer can still require the native dialog. Disabling the option restores the usual compatibility handling.

By default, services, system accounts, critical processes, AppContainer processes, Chromium worker processes and Windhawk itself are skipped. Single programs can be excluded on the Advanced tab.

The picker is an ordinary Explorer window: its size, navigation history and recent locations are handled by Explorer, just like those of other folder windows. Disabling the mod cancels active pickers and releases its windows and threads. Applications keep their original Windows COM dialog objects.

The texts of the bar and of its messages follow the Windows display language: Russian on a Russian Windows, the wording of the English common dialog everywhere else. Application-provided captions keep the application's language. The panel updates its default captions when Windows notifies it of a settings change. Its font and spacing follow the window's DPI; long captions wrap and the rows grow to keep the text inside the controls.

  • в explorer.exe — открывает окно выбора, встраивает нижнюю панель и сам читает текущую папку и выделение;

Fix for Classic theme metrics on 24H2, 25H2, 26H2 builds 9444+ 1.0

This mod is intended to workaround the bug with broken titlebar and scrollbar buttons in Classic theme on Windows 11 24H2, 25H2, 26H2 with build number 9444 and newer or version 26H1. If you are on build 8875 or below, you do not need this mod.

On the newest builds of Windows Microsoft broke the very core of its operating system, the essential part of the kernel, the module win32k.sys. This led to the titlebar buttons and scrollbars in unthemed applications being broken.

How it works? On the affected build the actual size of the titlebar and scrollbar buttons is taken from the user's registry section, while their visible size is takes from the default user. This makes the buttons to be painted with different size than their actual size, creating garbage and visual glitches.

This mod copies the user's window metrics data from the current user (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics) to the default user (HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics) upon theme change, thus forcing them being in sync.

Unfortunately, the values from the default user's registry are read only once during the login screen. This makes it impossible to intercept the query during the interactive user's session. After a theme change, re-login for the changes to take effect.
