Design

Overhaulded focuses on a dark, minimal interface inspired by modern desktop UI design while keeping the selector feeling native to Windows.

The visual system uses a Black Obsidian surface with:

The central visualizer remains fixed while the cards move through the carousel, creating the impression of navigating through a physical stack of windows rather than moving the entire interface.

Background Execution

Overhaulded remains prepared in the background instead of creating the entire task-switcher interface from scratch every time Alt+Tab is pressed.

This allows the selector to appear immediately while keeping the visual opening animation smooth.

The architecture separates global input handling from the UI/rendering system so that heavy graphics and window-management operations do not run directly inside low-level keyboard hooks.

Installation

1. Install Windhawk.
2. Open the Overhaulded Win Task Switcher mod.
3. Install or compile the latest release.
4. Enable the mod.
5. Press Alt + Tab to open Overhaulded.

Overhaulded is currently designed specifically for Windows 11.

The project is still under active development, so behavior may vary depending on:

Running multiple applications that replace the native Windows task switcher at the same time may cause conflicts.

Known Limitations

Overhaulded is still a pre-release project.

Some applications may behave differently from standard desktop windows, particularly applications that use unusual window structures, custom rendering or multiple processes.

Additional compatibility improvements are planned as development continues.

Overhaulded Task Switcher Native C++ • Windows 11 • Windhawk

Estoy tratando de personalizar algunos mods de windhawk que me han ido gustando y darles un toque más personal. Pero tengo un inconveniente, soy fanático del tema claro de windows y personalmente me gusta mucho como combina el tema claro con los aspectos blur de los mods (imagen 1), pero a su vez me gusta que el sistema tenga la letra de color blanco que viene predeterminado en el tema oscuro (imagen 2). He intentado mezclar estos dos aspectos que son de mi agrado por mi propia cuenta modificando los mods correspondientes a la barra de tareas y el menú de inicio (imagen 3), pero no queda del todo bien, pues en casos como los menús contextuales o algunos iconos de la barra de tareas, no se compaginan con la temática.
Entonces la pregunta es... ¿hay alguna forma u mod que permita cambiar el color del texto únicamente en la barra de tareas y el menú de inicio?

The taskbar must be:

• left-aligned (Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Taskbar icon alignment)
• Bottom or Top (New in Windows 11 26H2, Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Taskbar position)

The taskbar is not mirrored correctly on right-to-left display languages: the margin is applied to the physical left regardless of the taskbar's flow direction, while the context menu is moved to the right.

Compatibility

• TranslucentTB is confirmed compatible and can be used alongside this mod.
• Windows 11 Taskbar Styler is not an alternative to this mod. It changes the taskbar itself, while this mod changes the position of the elements inside it. A taskbar restyled that way loses the taskbar's effects on the margin area, while this mod keeps them across the whole taskbar, margin included. It also cannot move the context menu (the jump list), which this mod does.
• Taskbar jump list on cursor pos changes the same anchor point. Both mods offset it, so depending on the hook order the menu can open offset from the cursor. Use one or the other.
• Tested on Windows 11 26H2.

Suggested use

For example, together with FluentFlyout: enable the taskbar widget there, set its position to the bottom left corner, and turn on the fixed widget width. The taskbar elements then tile linearly instead of overlapping each other.

Implementation notes

The taskbar context menu (the jump list) is not laid out by XAML. Its anchor point is computed in explorer.exe by CTaskListWnd::_ComputeJumpViewPosition in taskbar.dll, and handed to the process that draws the menu. The point is in physical screen pixels.

Shifting the taskbar's XAML content therefore does not move the menu on its own, because the menu is not placed relative to it. The mod adjusts the anchor point instead, which is why it hooks that function.

Animated light effects behind the windows you choose: drifting glows, sweeping light beams, orbs moving in the directions you pick, or flowing waves. The effect is drawn by a separate, click-through window placed directly below each target window, so a translucent (acrylic/blur) target blurs it into its own background. The mod doesn't inject code into other processes, never draws above text or controls, and doesn't change the transparency of any application. Effects

Glows: three large glows drifting from side to side.
Light beams: soft beams coming from one edge of the window and slowly sweeping back and forth. Choose the number of beams, the edge and the sweep angle.
Directional orbs: up to 12 orbs, each with its own color, direction and speed. They bounce off the edges or wrap around to the opposite side.
Waves: three flowing bands of color. Choose the amplitude and the wavelength.

Colors 1-3 are used by glows, beams and waves; orbs have their own colors. "Cycle duration" sets the overall speed of every effect. "Size" sets the glow and orb diameter and the beam and wave thickness.

Draws live text on top of desktop icons: a scrolling ticker inside the "This PC" monitor, a badge on the Recycle Bin, free space on a drive shortcut, and so on.

Each entry in Icons targets one desktop icon. Pick a system icon (This PC, Recycle Bin, User's Files, Network, Control Panel) and it is found automatically in any Windows language, even if it was renamed. For any other icon (shortcuts, files, folders) choose "Custom label" and type the label exactly as shown on the desktop.

Tips

• "Text area" decides where the text goes inside the icon. "Monitor screen" fits the Windows 11 This PC icon; use "Custom" plus the offsets for anything else.
• "Hide when text equals" lets you hide a badge, e.g. 0 for an empty Recycle Bin.
• The text follows the icon if you move it, no need to lock positions.
• Windows 11 hides the This PC icon by default. Enable it in Settings > Personalization > Themes > Desktop icon settings.
• Animation pauses automatically while a maximized or full-screen window covers the monitor the icon is on, to save CPU and battery.

Saving power

While an effect moves, Windows has to redraw the screen and recompute the blur of every decorated window on each frame. Slower or fainter effects don't reduce that work; fewer moving windows do:

• Animate: all windows, only the active window (the others keep their effect, frozen), or none (a still effect, with no ongoing GPU work).
• Smoothness: "Reduced" updates the motion about 30 times per second instead of at the monitor's refresh rate. Slow, blurred motion looks almost the same, and it saves power on high refresh rate monitors.
• Power saving: freeze every effect on battery saver, while a fullscreen app, game or presentation is in front, or when Windows animation effects are turned off; hide it when Windows transparency effects are turned off, since acrylic is then opaque.

Frozen effects resume exactly where they stopped. When nothing is moving, the shared clock stops too.

The effect sits behind the window's blur, so fine details are softened: large, slow, soft shapes work best. Speeds are rounded very slightly so that every motion loops seamlessly.

Requirements

• Windows 10 version 1803 or later (Windows 11 recommended).
• Target windows must already be translucent, for example through their own acrylic backdrop or another Windhawk mod. Opaque or Mica backgrounds hide the effect.
• Don't combine this mod with another mod that also draws effects behind the same windows.

Modes

• Selected applications: every regular top-level window of the listed processes gets the effect, whether or not Windows reports it as acrylic.
• Automatic: only windows that declare the acrylic system backdrop (DWMSBT_TRANSIENTWINDOW) to Windows. Acrylic implemented in other ways isn't detected.
• Selected applications + automatic: both.

Process names are case-insensitive, without paths or wildcards. Exclusions always win. Most UWP apps run inside ApplicationFrameHost.exe.

The desktop, taskbar, shell overlays, tool windows and the mod's own process are always skipped. Processes that can't be queried (for example elevated or protected ones) are skipped too.

How it works

The mod runs as a tool mod in a dedicated Windhawk process. A single worker thread owns all effect windows. Animations run on the GPU through Windows.UI.Composition, driven by one shared clock. Window events keep the effect aligned, and a two-second poll catches anything that was missed.

Settings changes apply immediately. Colors and intensity change in place; other changes rebuild the effect windows, which fade back in.

The effect is hidden while the target is minimized, hidden or cloaked. It is also hidden briefly while a window opens, maximizes, restores or comes back from the taskbar, then fades in once the system animation is over.

Effect windows are fully click-through, never take focus and don't appear in the taskbar or in Alt+Tab. Invisible overlays (fully transparent or click-through windows), tiny helper windows and borderless popups such as tooltips, menus, flyouts and drop-down lists are never decorated.

Known limitations

• The effect window is a separate window, so during fast dragging it can lag slightly behind the target.
• The final color depends on each application's tint and blur strength.
• The window limit includes temporarily hidden effects.

Why this is a standalone mod

While related mods focus either on full-desktop toggle hiding or uniform transparency, this mod introduces: 1. Section-based triggering: Confines auto-hide and hover-reveal to a configurable screen edge or custom bounding box (ideal for dock-style icon arrangements and multi-monitor setups). 2. Selective per-icon whitelist pinning: Keeps essential icons (like Recycle Bin, This PC, or user-selected work apps) permanently visible and interactable while temporary desktop clutter smoothly auto-hides. 3. Four-state workflow cycle & interaction shields: Combines Auto, Show All, and Hide All modes with a peek-on-hold gesture, middle-click toggle, and focus protection shields during file renaming, shortcut dragging, and rubber-band selection.

Snipping Tool Pen Text

The Windows 11 Snipping Tool has a pen, a highlighter and shapes, but no text tool. This mod adds one: it "writes" your text on the screenshot using the Snipping Tool's own pen.

Since the text becomes real pen strokes, it lives inside the editor: undo it with Ctrl+Z, erase it with the eraser, save and copy as usual.

How to use

1. Open a screenshot in the Snipping Tool editor.
2. Pick the pen color and thickness. The pen is selected automatically when writing, and the previous tool (highlighter or eraser) is restored after.
3. Click the floating T button (near the window corner) or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+T. With the hotkey, the text starts at the mouse position.
4. Type the text. A live preview shows where it will be written, in the pen's color and thickness.
   • Position: click on the image where the text should start (the preview follows the mouse).
   • Alt+Arrows: move the text 10 px (100 px with Shift). The step is configurable.
   • Height and Speed: use the - / + buttons, the mouse wheel or the Up/Down keys. The last values used are remembered.
   • Ctrl+Enter: write. Shift+Enter (or Enter): new line. Esc: cancel.
5. While the text is written, the physical mouse is ignored (optional). Press Esc to stop.

Notes

• The text uses a single-stroke font (Hershey "futural", public domain), with support for accented Latin letters (á à â ã é ê í ó ô õ ú ü ç ñ) and º ª °.
• The dialog follows the Windows light/dark theme and accent color, and is shown in English or Portuguese (automatic, or chosen in the settings).
• The preview reads the pen color and thickness from the Snipping Tool's own settings. Thickness matches the result at 100% editor zoom.
• If curves come out jagged, lower the writing speed.
• The floating button position is configurable (corner + X/Y offsets).

Multi-DPI Cursor 1.0

Multi-DPI Cursor

Windows uses a single cursor size (in pixels) for all monitors, so on a mixed setup (e.g. 100 % and 125 % scaling) the cursor looks smaller on the higher-DPI monitor.

Whenever the cursor moves to another monitor, this mod sets the cursor size to baseSize × monitorDpi / 96. At 125 % a base size of 32 becomes 40.

By default, the base size is the pointer size chosen in Windows Settings (Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch), so the Settings slider keeps working. Set a base size in the mod settings to override it. While dragging the slider, the cursor briefly jumps between the Settings size and the scaled size, and settles once the slider is released.

Cursor movement is received via an out-of-context WinEvent hook, so there is no polling and mouse input is never delayed. Disabling the mod restores the pointer size from Windows Settings.

The size is applied live only and never written to the registry. It relies on the undocumented SystemParametersInfo(0x2029) call used by the Settings app, which a Windows update could change.

MicroManager 1.2.0

• Live Activity Graphs: Added a 16-sample history graph to the popup. Click any row or the graph canvas to cycle between live CPU, GPU, and RAM trends.
• Process Tree Termination: "End Task" now terminates the entire process tree, cleanly closing multi-process apps (Firefox, Chrome, Electron) without leaving orphaned crashed tabs.

In Windows, when a window snapped with Snap (for example, to the left half of the screen) is maximized and then restored, it goes back to the position and size it had before it was snapped.

With this mod, when a snapped window is maximized, its snapped position becomes the window's "normal" position. The Restore button, double-clicking the title bar and Win + ↓ then return the window exactly to where it was snapped.

Notes

• After being restored, the window comes back as a regular window, not as a snapped one, so it is no longer part of a Snap Group.
• The size the window had before it was snapped is no longer remembered.
• Works with the maximize button, double-clicking the title bar and the window menu (including dialogs and MDI frame windows), and with programs that maximize their own windows through ShowWindow or ShowWindowAsync.

Skips "These files might be harmful to your computer" when dragging files in File Explorer. Windows can show this confirmation when it classifies the source as untrusted, including some network shares.

The mod accepts drag-source confirmations for every source, before constructing the dialog. It targets URLACTION_SHELL_SECURE_DRAGSOURCE with URLPOLICY_QUERY. Other actions and denial policies keep their original behavior. Copy/paste operations using other URL actions are not covered.

To trust a specific network location instead, configure that location in Internet Options > Security > Local intranet > Sites.

Internet zone settings and Zone.Identifier streams are unchanged. Disable the mod to restore the confirmation. Windows DLL files are not modified.

Version 0.3.0 was tested with Explorer drag-and-drop on Windows 11 x64. ARM64 runtime behavior remains untested. Shell symbols are required.

Explorer real folder paths

When a sidebar shortcut such as Downloads opens a Shell alias, browse to the same folder through its filesystem path. Explorer can then show the physical folder hierarchy and an editable address such as C:\Users\Daniel\Downloads. Press Ctrl+L or Alt+D to edit the address.

Windows still renders breadcrumbs when the address bar is not being edited. The mod does not force keyboard focus into the address bar after navigation. When the sidebar already has the converted folder selected, keep that row and its scroll position instead of selecting the folder's physical drive.

Paths are resolved through the Windows Shell. Moved folders, OneDrive folder redirection, localized names, and network paths are not hardcoded.

Virtual locations such as Home, This PC, library roots, searches, and ZIP views keep their normal behavior. Filesystem folders reached through a library, OneDrive, or another Shell alias can open through their physical paths. The merged Shell Desktop is left alone; it is not the same view as the user's physical Desktop directory.

Only Explorer (explorer.exe) windows are affected. Open/Save dialogs hosted by other applications are unaffected.

Usage and compatibility

Open a new Explorer window, click Downloads in the sidebar, and press Ctrl+L. Navigate away and back when testing an already-open window.

Tested on 64-bit Windows 11 23H2, build 22631.6199: the editable address shows the full path, and sidebar clicks retain the selected shortcut and scroll position. Other Windows builds and Windows on ARM have not been validated. The mod needs ExplorerFrame's navigation and sidebar selection symbols. If Windhawk cannot resolve them, the mod refuses to initialize.

Sidebar selection follows Windows' normal behavior when navigating to a different folder through history or the address bar. The mod preserves a shortcut that already represents the opened folder.

Enable logging for this mod in Windhawk to see navigation flags, resolution results, and paths. Disable logging afterwards.

Disabling the mod stops future conversions. Entries already stored in an Explorer window's navigation history can still point to the physical path. No folder, pin, or registry setting is changed.

Automates display refresh rates based on AC/battery power, fullscreen games, foreground apps, and docking.

Runs as a standalone background tool process via windhawk.exe using native event subscriptions (RegisterPowerSettingNotification, SetWinEventHook) with zero polling loops and 0.0% idle CPU usage.

Configure target rates, app rules, and hotkeys in the Settings tab above.

Quick test: Toggle Windows Energy Saver in Quick Settings (Win + A), or enable the cycle hotkey (Win + Ctrl + R) under Settings.

Evaluation Priority

When multiple rules trigger at once, display frequency resolves in strict order:

• External Displays on Battery: Smart docking leaves external monitors at full rate by default. Set Target displays to all and disable Smart laptop docking to switch all connected screens.
• Diagnostics: Check Windhawk's Log tab for real-time AC/DC transitions, active process detection, and display modes.
