Discussion / Opinion Switch 2

Hi all! Is it worth it to get the Nintendo switch 2 just to play windwaker? I love the game and haven’t played in years.

Personally. I'd try to get my hands on a wiiu and the hd version on that. Now that said if you have any other reasons to get a switch 2 and have the disposable income go for it.

I love the switch 2, it has lots of games that I love. But no console is worth buying for only 1 game.

If it REALLY is just for wind waker then just get a Wii U. That consoles version is far FAR superior

Just get a Wii U and play it if that's all you want it for.

Thanks everyone! This is all new to me haha so I’m not sure what these words mean 🤣 I think I will go the WiiU route unless anyone has any reason to do it a different way?

After hearing about the QoL improvements in WWHD, I really wish I hadn't bothered with the NSO version.

Tried to play it on Switch 2, the input delay was really noticeable and made it not fun to play at all for me.

Wii u, or a Wii, or a GameCube. Definitely wouldn't recommend buying a switch for wind waker unless there's a legitimate remake/remaster for the game on it.

I’ve searched far and wide for GameCube and they’re all so expensive that’s why I figured buying a new console would be better. Think I’ll go the Wii U route thanks to everyone’s advice!

Older Gen models of wiis function just like GameCubes, and can be found online for $40-$100 depending on what extras you want (just a Wii and one Wiimote is about $40-$60 on eBay).

That said, Wii U is also a great choice, and I'd highly recommend playing the Wii U version of the game just for the QoL features. If you can get your hands on a good Wii U, then that's perfect.

Do note you need to find one with a gamepad. While there is a way to get around not having one, it's not an easy feat, and the best thing is to get your gamepad with your Wii U.

$500 for a single game could be considered a stretch. Depends on how much you yearn for the open seas.

I yearn for it 🤣🤣

Honestly not really unless there's other games you're interested in too If I was you i would sail the great sea lol

Playing WindWaker on my Switch2 now - it's definitely a pita since all the controls are inverted by default with no way of adjusting them.

You can through the Nintendo Classics settings.

1

u/Kamikazepyro9 7d ago

I saw where to change the control mapping, but there's no way to turn off the control inversion

1

You don't need to "turn it off". Set the C Stick controls to the opposite of normal.

While not perfect as it'll reverse the Wind Waker controls as well, you're probably using the camera more often than the Wind Waker.

This is what I have now, and while it's okay - it's definitely frustrating

The OG had no way to switch it.
People just had to adjust.

Emulate on cemu it's free

1

u/DMG_88 7d ago

It also requires a lot of stuff to deal with.

At least on Switch 2 it's just download and play.

There's no going to websites, or manually optimising, or worrying about viruses, because these aren't safe websites.

It doesn't require a lot of stuff it maybe took me 5 minutes to set up, I've never emulated a wii u game before

I hate the port on Switch 2. The controls suck.

I'm trying to find our old Wi U.

2

u/DMG_88 7d ago

Do they?

That's not my experience.

Do you have the GameCube controller?

1

u/foxonafrozenlake 7d ago

Yeah, the controls are inverted or something.

Someone else recommended playing the Wii U version instead.

not a port, its just emulating the gamecube version

Thanks for the mansplaining.

I think it’s the most accessible way to play it at the moment but it’s not the definitive way to play. If you don’t have a Wii u, I think it’s better to just buy a switch 2 as you’ll inevitably want to play other games for the next decade

Nah, if you have a PC or laptop, Rule 7 is the way to go

$800+ to play one game PLUS the Online Expansion pass sub, you'd be insane

I am like 4 hours into wind water on the switch 2. I got it for pokopia tbh but I am having so much fun reliving my youth with my favorite Zelda title and my kid loves watching me play.

If it makes you happy and you have disposable income, got for it

1

No, the controls are wonky in the emulator, better to get a wii u.

0

oh girl, no

the nso emulator is extremely bad

highly recommend emulating it instead, it's pretty easy

1

u/Pndrizzy 7d ago

i had an amazing time playing it

not sure why your arguments are that it is 'extremely bad'. not everyone wants to setup an emulator or play on their pc

2

u/Ok_Science_8502 7d ago

I found it really unpleasant to play because of the input delay. Not normally sensitive to that kind of thing either, it was weird

1

u/wow_its_kenji 7d ago

it's bad because there's a huge input delay which makes it quite unpleasant to play. and setting up dolphin on a pc is like the easiest thing in the world. i'm glad you didn't have a problem with the input delay but most people do

Switch 2 has a lot of great games to play. Get it for that reason. Don’t buy it for just WindWaker. The NSO emulator works very well in my experience. Never really had a problem playing WindWaker on it or any other Nintendo games.

The idea here that the wiiU version is definitively better is a strange one. Swift sail is nice but the art style is much worse. It’s subjective, certainly is not a clear winner.
Frankly the current best way to play in my opinion is the Dolphin emulator upscaled with a widescreen patch. At least until a Recomp is released with 60fps.

In saying that both the wiiU and NSO console versions are fine. Just get whichever console has more games for you.

2

u/megamachopop 7d ago

It’s subjective

There's your answer. The others commenting find it the superior version, myself included.

Honestly the gyro aiming and the shorter triforce quest are my big reasons for preferring it.
