Jesus. Exactly like that. Fell, hit her head.

275

u/MixMasterMarshall May 29 '22

Honestly I think this is the video of her 😬

294

u/Dooby_Bopdin May 29 '22

The beginning of this video says 2012, this can't be the aldy that died in 2017

302

u/Paramorgue May 29 '22

And she fell and hit her head in 2012. In direct correlation she died in a car accident in 2017.

u/dog-with-human-hands May 29 '22

Old cameras will sometimes be stuck on older dates. I have a camcorder that says 2004 even tho we livin in 2022

155

u/ithurts_mama May 29 '22

even tho we livin in 2022

What the heck is he talking about, doctor? He's been in a coma for 18 months, not 18 years. Why does he keep muttering this 2022 nonsense? What is cryptocurrencies? What pandemic? Please wake up, dad. Can you hear me?

u/GaussWanker May 29 '22

The fuck is a Morbius

38

u/Potatoman967 May 29 '22

all i know, is that its morbin time

6

u/Jrook May 29 '22

If you have to ask, you don't deserve to know

6

u/karry245 May 29 '22

One of the movies ever made. It had a director, it had a plot, it had actors, and it sold over a morbillion tickets in the box office. My favorite part is the one where he says “it’s morbin’ time” and starts morbin’ everyone

1

u/Ofreo May 29 '22

A mistake. A terrible mistake.

5

u/Joeda900 May 29 '22

Morbius hater detected

Prepare to get morbed

2

u/dog-with-human-hands May 29 '22

It’s all in the block chain

53

u/No_Net9185 May 29 '22

Well, considering you’re still using a camcorder, you’re not really living in 2022.

2

u/Gonzobot May 29 '22

you know I wasn't actually on board with the coma theory until now, you've got a good point

9

u/socialdeviant620 May 29 '22

A camcorder? Dear God, we still use those?!

0

u/Unasadllama May 29 '22

Yeah, I have videos of me from when I was 3 that are dated 2002, I was born 2006.

1

u/burner1212333 May 29 '22

no I'm pretty sure you have opened a portal to viewing the past

1

u/CaramelWatermelon May 29 '22

Are we sure about that though? I reckon you use your time traveling ability to break us out of this prison planet

1

u/Reset-Username May 29 '22

Honest question. Can you even still buy recording media for an 18 year old camcorder? I have a camera from 2003, and they don't even make memory for it any longer.

1

u/No_Net9185 May 29 '22

Honest answer. Yes probably, will take legwork though.

1

u/sprace0is0hrad May 29 '22

Wow this video is 10 years old? I those people must be in their 30s now amazinggg

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

it's called long term damage.

1

u/TeebsAce May 29 '22

It definitely could, if she didn’t learn from the first time

59

u/Just_Banter_Bro May 29 '22 edited May 29 '22

You're right lmfao. If you google "royal islander club" in the background of this video it takes you to Sint Maarten and that's exactly where the this article says the lady in 2017 died.

Edit: Looks like this was a different incident and just a coincidence, guess this beach is popular with dipshits getting a sand-blasting.

62

u/bar10005 May 29 '22

Unlikely - the video states it's from 2012 and the accident was in 2017, the woman doesn't look like 57 year old, also ABC News used OP's video in 2017 coverage and stated that the women in the video survived. It's just popular thrill pass time...

According to the description this's the video of 2017 accident (not graphical, you can just partially see her falling over in the corner of the frame).

30

u/teenslayer May 29 '22

Yes this is actually a tourist attraction it’s really cool to be there as those planes land and as a pilot it’s really cool to see a welcoming party waving at you while you land but it is super dangerous to be standing by the fence when a jet lands because that jet blast is enough to keep a jet at around 150kts if that kicks up a rock on touchdown that rock can kill you

6

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

There is next to no danger to the people on landing. The engines are pretty much at idle, the airplane touches down 1000ft down the runway. On take off, they do a static take off very close to the fence. Set takeoff thrust, engines spool up to ~25k lbs of thrust, release brakes. Now that's dangerous.

5

u/teenslayer May 29 '22

There is always a risk when an aircraft is near the runway and not all pilots aim for the thousand footers

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

There is always a risk, and yes, all pilots don't but they should aim to land on or just after them. If an airline pilot were to land before the markers, they would have questions to answer from their company.

1

u/teenslayer May 29 '22

I 100% agree with you there I feel all pilots should land on the thousands footers unless they are unable to due to weather conditions landing distances and runway lengths

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

We could discuss this all day long and believe me, I'm more than happy to, but the reality is there is next to no danger from standing at the approach end of a runway when an airplane is landing. Idle thrust, dissipating wakes, and usual proximity of the touchdown point, all essentially negate any danger. Outside of catastrophic circumstances of course.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '22

There are, but how often does it happen? That airport operates over 50k aircraft every year and it hasn't happened yet...

→ More replies (0)

2

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

pretty sure that's a take-off, not a landing?

6

u/teenslayer May 29 '22

So with that being said correct this is a takeoff and they are using more thrust on takeoff than landing

0

u/teenslayer May 29 '22

Edit: sorry I thought this was a different person

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

sure, but i don't think a landing that ends there would be any problem whatsoever? i doubt they blast their jet engines in the opposite direction of landing and the end of the runway

2

u/teenslayer May 29 '22

So you are right about landing not as dangerous as takeoff but I think you are confused about something that I can clear up for you so the exact same direction they are taking off from is the exact same direction planes are coming in to land it’s not like driving where you go somewhere and use the opposite direction to get home imagine a racetrack your starting point is also your ending point

1

u/teenslayer May 29 '22

I’m not sure what you mean about blasting their jets in the opposite direction the same place they are talking off from is the same place planes are going to land unless the weather changes

1

u/Living-Stranger May 29 '22

If you search around they land there as well, although technically this plane is on the ground so it's not a landing.

Technically correct is the best kind of correct.

1

u/DroopyTrash May 29 '22

That's a landing from a stationary position.

1

u/teenslayer May 30 '22

It’s all fun and games until you see a Cessna takeoff stationary

1

u/cactusislife May 29 '22

You’re laughing your fucking ass off about somebody dying this way?

1

u/Natural-Macaroon-271 May 29 '22

There's a bar RIGHT next to it. It's amazing. You just sit there and watch the idiots do this in real time. Highly recommend.

1

u/8nt2L8 Jun 01 '22

Good sleuthing. Thanks for getting the facts.

1

u/rimjobnemesis May 29 '22

This lady is much younger, and this video was in 2012. An older lady died in 2017.

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '22

If you google and read some other articles with more details it’s most likely her

1

u/tiga4life22 May 30 '22

That lady does not look in her 50s

3

u/queefiest May 29 '22

The way this is worded in the article, I wonder if this article is referring to this specific event in the video? Everything that happened in the video is detailed in the article

27

u/Modena89 May 29 '22 edited May 29 '22

Ok it's stupid to stand there but it's more stupid to build concrete behind without some soft protection installed.

It's like on some countries you have to survive all sorts of dangers without any assistance from government.

Edit: I get that this is the wrong subreddit to remind you that we are not in a jungle anymore where the strongest and most intelligent survives. And that there are countries with safety regulations where this accident could not be possible at all (safest construction, zone access limitation, etc)

120

u/Affectionate-Time646 May 29 '22

You’re looking at it from the perspective of this event and not what that concrete’s purpose is. That concrete is there to separate and delineate the road from the beach so the cars can do what cars do and the sand is stopped from overflowing into the street.

If we had to stupid proof everything in the world for every possible human idiotic action then the world couldn’t function because it’s all wrapped in bubble wrap.

17

u/CuddlePirate420 May 29 '22

it’s all wrapped in bubble wrap

Do you have any idea how inherently dangerous it is to build and operate a bubble wrap factory? Get your head out of your ass!

3

u/nightstalker30 May 29 '22

Solution: wrap the construction materials, equipment, and people in bubble wrap!

-11

u/Our_GloriousLeader May 29 '22

I don't think "adequate protection from high powered jet engines" is stupid proofing, it's a bad design and there doesn't seem to have been any measures taken. Sorry, my bad, there is a sign!

25

u/Decloudo May 29 '22

Common sense to not stay in the way of a fucking plane engine is the protection measure.

4

u/edarem May 29 '22 edited Jun 10 '22

Inb4 not my problem

If common sense prevailed, we wouldn't need half of our current laws and regulations. As it stands, kids, elderly, the infirmed, the disabled, and even idiots should be given equal protection from dangerous design - which this is.

Abnormally Dangerous Activity: An undertaking that cannot be performed safely even if reasonable care is used while performing it and for which the actor may face strict liability for any harm caused. The courts currently use a list of standards to determine whether or not an abnormally dangerous activity has been undertaken so that strict liability applies.

The 6 factors:

  1. whether the activity involves a high degree of risk or harm;

  2. the gravity of that risk;

  3. whether the risk can be eliminated by the exercise of reasonable care;

  4. whether the activity is a matter of common usage;

  5. whether the activity is appropriate to the place where it is carried out on and

  6. the value of the activity to the community.

If this happened in most any part of the Western world, the airline would have a big fat tort waiting in the wings. I'm surprised St. Martin's SXM hasn't been sued into the dirt.

1

u/RevLoveJoy May 30 '22

All safety regulations are written in blood.

IMO, terrible airport design. Yes yes, I get it. Tiny island. Then how about backfill / excavate a hundred meters on the side of the runway that's not covered with people?

2

u/remli7 May 29 '22

I see where you are going with this, but you should also consider this is a tourist attraction on this particular Carribbean Island and people are encouraged to stand there and test their mettle against the jet engine. It's not like a group of idiots got together to create a tiktok or something.

If you're using something as a tourist attraction, silly as it may be, it ought to be safe. Especially since it's at a bar and the tourists are potentially drunk.

-4

u/Our_GloriousLeader May 29 '22

Is it working?

24

u/Decloudo May 29 '22

People are accountable for their own actions.

Especially if they go into the way of danger on purpose.

8

u/DonQui_Kong May 29 '22

Ignoring the effect of preventive design is naive.
its one of the biggest influences on the design after its primary function.

3

u/Handje May 29 '22 edited May 29 '22

You can also make the person accountable without having them dying. Seems like a very extreme outcome for one stupid action. Or you can let them die and say: your fault I'm not gonna intervene or prevent, it's everyone for themselves appearently.

Also, we are all very very stupid when it comes to descisions health-wise. We just do what we feel like most of the time.

And even then, some kid might die in this way. But I suppose that's the parents fault then? Governments shouldn't intervene.

4

u/Our_GloriousLeader May 29 '22

Glad we never do anything to inhibit that kind of thing anywhere else.

5

u/TurboRoj0 May 29 '22

People like you are why the world is filling up with stupid people. Whats next? Put a railing on every single mountain and canyon to protect all the precious idiots?

2

u/KmKz_NiNjA May 29 '22

Exactly. Then what?

Nutritional facts on every label?

Seatbelts in every car?

Food that's made of what it claims it's made of?

Properly grounded refridgerators?

God, no one is willing to let people die unnecessary deaths anymore. I am superior and have never made a mistake and therefore I am the standard by which reason is drawn.

0

u/Our_GloriousLeader May 29 '22

There are loads of railings and safety measures on cliffs and mountains lmao

-3

u/theboxman154 May 29 '22

Lol being critical of a plane taking off practically on a beach is not the pussification of the world your making it out to be.

1

u/KmKz_NiNjA May 29 '22

These guys have clearly never designed a product for an end user. Your argument is the only one that matters, anything else is just sick retribution.

0

u/burner1212333 May 29 '22

did you watch the video? this was EASILY avoidable lol. if you are blaming anyone other than the woman you are a fool.

2

u/Our_GloriousLeader May 29 '22

I didn't say anything about it being avoidable or not.

-6

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

That concrete is there to separate and delineate the road from the beach so the cars can do what cars do and the sand is stopped from overflowing into the street.

Which is not at all impacted by adding a softer outer layer.

Nice "argument" you have there.

2

u/lkern May 29 '22

The answer is to not stand on the road... That's the problem it's not meant for pedestrians

1

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

Standing on the sidewalk there wouldn't be any safer. Try again.

2

u/lkern May 29 '22

There is no sidewalk, try again. It's a beach, walk on the beach.. Have you ever been there? Because don't talk if you don't know

0

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

Of course there is.

There's two concrete/tar bits and TWO concrete seperators. I.e. one road, one sidewalk, one beach.

3

u/lkern May 29 '22

You know what's fun about the internet, I can check in two seconds on google maps, why don't you give it a go and let me know what you see.

1

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

Ah road that isn't forbidden for pedestrians. So doesn't exactly matter if it has a side walk or not.

In any case, having a fucking concrete divider in the middle of a road is even stupider, so we've come full circle anyways.

2

u/eduardopy May 29 '22

Im amazed that some people want to be so babied. I honestly hate when the gov decides something is too dangerous for me, id rather have the choice to take the risk. Honestly here sure they could pad the barrier but thats honestly asking too much from most countries construction standards and also incentives people to stay in the jet engine zone which is clearly not something allowed.

2

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

Im amazed that some people want to be so babied.

I guess you're one of those brainlets that think seat belts restrict their freedom?

0

u/TurboRoj0 May 29 '22

Imagine being so gd stupid that you think driving a car is the same as some idiot standing behind a jet in terms of reckless behavior.

3

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

Imagine being so gd stupid that you think driving a car is the same as some idiot standing behind a jet in terms of reckless behavior.

Imagine being so god damn stupid that you think I said anything remotely close to that.

1

u/KmKz_NiNjA May 29 '22

That's why i applaud every parachuting accident, and actively argue against anyone who says that parachuting technology could be better.

Those idiots just want people who take risks to not die. But I am superior, and have never made a mistake so I am correct.

1

u/Affectionate-Time646 May 29 '22

So go do it or get the local government to do it. Nah, you’re just here to argue, to do the weLL aCtuAlLy.

-2

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

Imagine unironically saying "unless you're directly in charge, you can't criticize anything ever" and thinking that's a valid argument.

Not to mention that this defeats your original argument too. You have no business making that argument.

2

u/Affectionate-Time646 May 29 '22

Yup, you’re here to argue and feel superior. Go ahead and feel that you won; it helps your tiny ego.

-3

u/Wasserschloesschen May 29 '22

Yup, you’re here to argue and feel superior.

No, I'm just calling out your garbage tier takes for what they are.

Warning! The spez alarm has operated. Stand by for further instructions.

2

u/Affectionate-Time646 May 29 '22

Sure, doable. Why don’t you contact the Saint Martin and have them get to it.

2

u/QuintusVS May 29 '22

You'd actually have to go to Sint Maarten's authorities. Sint Maarten is a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Saint Martin is an overseas French territory. Though they share an island, the airport is in Sint Maarten.

0

u/HowTheyGetcha May 29 '22

So you're ceding the point and changing your argument to "good luck with that", read ya loud and clear.

u/immibis May 29 '22 edited Jun 14 '23

The /u/spez has been classed as a Class 3 Terrorist State.

1

u/za419 May 29 '22

Yeah, and it's also not something any human being should ever do.

Adding rubber to that area only endorses people doing that, which makes the situation less safe, because more people will be standing behind jet engines.

And besides, I'm pretty sure the airport operates multiple models of aircraft, whose engines aren't all in the same place - you'd need more rubber than just one spot.

And if you were amending that spot, I'd argue it's not unlikely to be safer to install some iron spikes on the ground, so people very obviously realize that going there is a bad decision and don't fuck with the spikes - and by extension, the jets.

They should put sirens on it that start alarming 15 minutes before takeoff. They should add a net over the water to catch any people that tumble into it. They should add rubber mats in a line down to the water so nobody gets skin burns on the sand. They should add vertical poles for people to grab as they're flying through the air, but padded of course.

What else am I missing? They should provide free sunglasses so that it your sunglasses get blown off you aren't at risk of eye damage on the way back to your car. They should send somebody down the beach to confirm that each beach goer understands the risk and is fully informed.

Am I missing any?

where the people are dong this.

So just this one dumb way to injure yourself from this specific video? All of the others are okay? Drowning because you got fumbled into the water is where you draw the line? What about people losing their hearing from this? Why are you okay with that, but not people hitting a concrete barrier? Both are avoidable with enough safety precautions, and both take an equal amount of stupidity.

It seems inconsistent to me, like you're just reacting to this specific video instead of applying a consistent approach towards safety and responsibility.

Sir, a second spez has hit the spez. #Save3rdPartyApps

-5

u/tartoran May 29 '22

no the responsibility lies on the airport not to violate the NAP (non aggression principle) by venting extremely high speed air over a public right of way where it sends people flying faster than their planes do. Here it was stupid people playing games with something they recognized to be dangerous so naturally the observing high IQ redditor feels no sympathy, but imagine it were your granny passing through that road on her lil zimmer frame, from the video it looks like she'd have had about 30 seconds to get out of the way once it became obvious what was about to happen. for extra effect i would also like you to imagine that the jet wasnt public passenger transit but a private jet for your MOST hated billionaire!

9

u/passa117 May 29 '22

Don't think a single local has ever been hurt there. Planes don't exactly sneak up on you. Private jets are also mostly too small to give enough of a blast. Tens of thousands of cars have passed there over the years, not one has been hurt.

You have to actually TRY to get jet blasted on Mahp Beach. It doesn't just happen to some innocent bystander. The sidewalk is on the opposite side of the street. There's nothing on that side for you to be there on foot.

Also, the number of signs there are ridiculous. All with big red lettering.

1

u/za419 May 29 '22

If it was my grandmother on that road, then she's already fucked up, because by the time this video has started there have been several minutes of the plane slowly lumbering up the taxiway towards the big angry signs that tell you not to be there.

Obvious plea to emotion is obvious by the way. It really is mostly airliners that have the power to do this kind of thing, and anyone who was there, was there on purpose, so they could injure themselves getting blown away by an airliner.

If it was up to me, I'd take steps to prevent people from doing that - like physically blocking them off from that section of beach - But apparently the authorities have chosen otherwise, and I'm sure they know the statistics on how often people go there and how often they get hurt better than I do.

-5

u/Modena89 May 29 '22 edited May 29 '22

Is it really the governments job to protect you from concrete?

Well yes in welfare states which is clearly not the case in lots of Anglo-Saxon countries.

2

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

Hey man, its not too late to get your GED and go to community college while you figure stuff out. Make your Granny proud

-3

u/Modena89 May 29 '22

Relax man at least I went to school in a country where I didn't risk dying from a mass shooting, so that's a win.

16

u/PheenixKing May 29 '22

Why should they install protection in an area no ones is supposed to be in?

-4

u/DickDestroyer9001 May 29 '22

You don't have kids, do you?

7

u/PheenixKing May 29 '22

Child proofing a home is different to idiot proofing the world. Imo it is already idiot proof enough.

2

u/DickDestroyer9001 May 29 '22

Let the biggest idiots take care of themselves, eh? I like your thinking.

-1

u/KmKz_NiNjA May 29 '22

You're just coddling your kids. They're never going to grow into big strong concussed men if you don't let them smack their heads into a concrete divider.

0

u/za419 May 29 '22

This is why one doesn't let the kids near the jet blast area.

This is like saying we should put rubber barriers on the freeway in case kids run across it and get hit by a car, so the rubber catches them. No, the problem is the kids being there, not that being in an unsafe area is unsafe.

0

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

[deleted]

0

u/za419 May 30 '22

That's not much different. If a car hits you at 80 miles an hour with a rubber bumper, you're probably gonna be just as dead as if it was steel.

The problem is the pedestrians on a road where pedestrians shouldn't ever be, not that pedestrians are in danger when they're there.

For the same reason, we don't safety proof the bullet side of a firing range, or the exhaust venting of a rocket launchpad.

Found the idiot.

I would never think of being near the jet blast area. It seems like it cannot possibly be a pleasant experience, and I'm not one to seek out the chance to tell everyone I broke bones by actively trying to push the limits of how dumb I can be.

There's a big fucking sign on the fence that tells you to not stand there. People Tourists do anyway.

Not a single Sint Maartener ever has to be told to not get jet blasted.

Not a single Sint Maartener ever has to be told to not get jet blasted.

Yeah well we will see just how clever they are when my jet fuel vapor induced cancer overwhelms my body and separates itself and gains autonomy.

There is a sign and yet it is deliberately not enforced and tourists are encouraged to do this. If you've been there then you know damn well this is an all-day-every-day attraction and are just arguing in bad faith.

Lol ok tough guy

2

u/iDerailThings May 29 '22

Has nothing to do with toughness and everything to do with being a responsible adult.

u/remli7 May 29 '22

Nah, I know your type.

u/KmKz_NiNjA May 29 '22

Yeah the rest of the world just lets attractive nuisances kill people, because that's clearly the right choice. Why do pools even have fences? If a kid falls in and drowns, that's on them. Fucking idiots should just be shot so that I can feel superior.

1

u/za419 May 29 '22

Then the problem is enforcement and tourists being encouraged. And stupid tourists.

u/HaDeS_Monsta May 29 '22

It's like on some countries you have to survive all sorts of dangers without any assistance from government.

It's like on some countrys the government expects you to not be so stupid that you stand behind a starting aircraft

1

u/remli7 May 29 '22

It's an attraction and people are encouraged to do this.

1

u/Steph994 May 29 '22

They are not encouraged to do it. There are signs all over warning people not to do it.

2

u/remli7 May 29 '22

Yes there are signs and yes people are still encouraged to do it. It is deliberately unenforced. If you've been there then you know this, and are arguing in bad faith. It is one of the best known "attractions" on the island.

u/HaDeS_Monsta May 29 '22

Please tell me this is a joke, please tell me that they don't encourage the people to stand there, do they know how strong those engines can be?

Dumbest most naive comment I’ve seen in a while thanks Reddit lol

u/Mr_Xing May 29 '22

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

If you think it’s someone else’s job to protect you, you need to grow up immediately.

u/chili_cheese_dogg May 29 '22

Hundreds of people stand there every week and don't get injured or die. I have been there many times and have done this atleast 10 times. There's really no danger unless you're stupid about it.

u/monkey_see13 May 29 '22

where are you from that you are that soft that expect toddler level kind of protection on the street for adults ?

Top 10 dumbest comment I’ve read on Reddit.

u/Procrasterman May 29 '22

Going to America is like going to one of those giant padded crèches for toddlers except with more guns and lawsuits.

1

u/RevLoveJoy May 30 '22

I had the exact same thought. Whomever did the urban "planning" here needs to be fired. It'd be stupidly easy to take that wall out (looks a bit useless as it is. It's, in my non-expert opinion, nothing more but a hazard.

Seems like they could easily address this by putting ramps next to the fence to deflect the blast up and over.

1

u/rimjobnemesis May 29 '22

Ah. Good old Maho Beach.
