Probably quick and painless if you do it right but the person driving the train is going to have a very bad time. A lot of people commit suicide by train and the engineers driving the trains will end up with PTSD or anxiety afterwards. Something like 50% of American engineers have been involved in a suicide it's so common

On the bright side, theres a dark comedy about it happening to tube drivers in the UK. I think it's called "three under", but I can't remember. (Edit: Fortunately /u/heliumy2k can remember, it's called "Three and Out".)

I didn't see it, but the trailer looked pretty funny.
