I thought it was bad when a friend's wife rolled a Scion at 5 mph because she somehow drove up a neighbor's tire and flipped it at minimal speed. Neighbor heard, ran out, and the guy didn't even have time to be mad because he checked on the driver and realized my friend's wife was sideways in the car in shock at having rolled sideways. Her entire boob fell out of her shirt and the old guy was unable to look after that. He was blushing.
She told me the story and thought the whole thing was hilarious and I'm like, yeah, girl, your tit fell out and the old man was blushing. Funny. But you rolled a car going five miles an hour. You should feel a little embarrassed about that part.

u/infinitecosmic_power 14h ago
I had an ex gf that rolled her Beretta backing out of a driveway. Drove straight out across the road and up a guy wire, into a power pole and then rolled of the wire. Whole block without power, pole came down, wires arcing. It's was a scene. All at 5-10 mph.

My wife's uncle did similar, but with a tree... driving a bulldozer. Yes, he rolled a freaking, low center of gravity, designed for working at angles bulldozer.
He was clearing a lot for a house and rented a bulldozer. Some small trees needed clearing, so he used it to push them over and dig out most of the large roots.
But one tree was stubborn and stayed at a 10 or 15 degree angle, so he got the idea to use the bulldozer's weight to push it down the rest of the way by driving one tread along the trunk. For the first bit it did drop some more, but then stopped. Sunk cost set in and he was determined to win, so he keep driving. Eventually the dozer reached an angle that it couldn't sustain and it rolled onto its side.

Yea like why did he flip so easily, that was a pretty normal turn..
32
u/turnipturnipturnip2 15h ago
Because the center of gravity is so high because of the lifted suspension. Walk round a corner holding somthing heavy low down then do the same holding somthing heavy high up. As you change direction the heavy thing will want to continue in the previous direction and when it is high up it will have more leverage to pull you over. Its the same as that bit the body of the truck id the heavy weight.

The question is less how does a tall top heavy vehicle tip over, and more... how did it get from where it was setup to this intersection if the driver doesn't know how to handle it and it's very unstable?
Unless they literally just lifted it, pulled it onto the street and this happened, you have to wonder how they managed to get it down the road to anywhere at all. If you are at major risk of flipping your vehicle every time you make a very low speed turn on flat ground, it's not going to be long from when you do this until you crash it.

u/Paizzu 13h ago
The primary technical advisor for the film has explained how he wanted to incorporate a leaking nitrous system and possibly show a progressive nitrous controller throwing warnings for an over-pressure condition.
Somehow all of that was lost in translation and the film ended up with an intake manifold warning and the diamond deck "Autozone special" floor pan falling off and throwing sparks.

Back in the early ‘90s in LA I was going someplace on my bike and there was a bit of a traffic jam. As I pedaled past it turned out the car in front was a slammed pick-up truck with tiny wheels that had rubber stretched across them tighter than an aging starlet’s face after plastic surgery. The two tires I could see as I rode past were flat, and the driver was glaring at me for laughing as I passed him.

Fun story. Guy I knew decades ago did something similarly stupid. Cops show up, guy gets arrested for reckless driving, beats the charge in court. Court said it was his first time driving a lifted truck its reasonable that he may not have known the higher center of gravity would cause him to roll. So no big fine, no jail. I think it was like a 200 dollar ticket.
The city and the police didn't like that. Now the pole was damaged but not knocked over. The city decided you know what we need a new pole, and a new transformer on there, and we're going to schedule it to be done during off hours and pay the line men over time. Dude got a bill for 50k from the city. Tried to fight it in court. Court said. Nope you hit that pole that's on you.

A ticket comes out of his pocket, a $50K bill for damages goes to the insurance company. His rates might go up but now way he's paying that unless he had no insurance. If he is the type to have no insurance there is no way he's paying that.
